Yes but I guess it's more music to listen for yourself than listening on stage... Looks like they don't like to do a great show... But the music is so awesome
@Conde Vilikhan That's because they were a studio band for the majority of their career with Mathias Blad as their singer. Their exposure was limited with him due to Mathias Blad's commitments to theater always holding the band back from touring. It shows in their stage presence. Mathias has very limited experience on a Heavy Metal stage and the last time they appeared at Wacken, Blad was sick and it showed. The rest of the band, even with the line up changes as a whole, has appeared on stage more times than Blad, especially when Blad left the band and even when he came back. Blad has one of the best voices in Heavy Metal but he doesn't have the experience or the power to sing over the band on stage live.
@@pikkon899 I find it to be part of their appeal and charm even. No fire. No costumes. No gimmicks. No pouting, frowning, or angry looking gazes into the cameras. Just dudes being dudes. I dig it.
Their debut record is one of my favourite metal albums ever. And Mathias Blad is a professional theatre actor and singer, so they do not perform live very often. That's why their stage presence is suffering.
One of my favorite bands, love their albums - still, they sounded a bit rusty live. Also, I love the fact that if you were to see them on the street you'd not be able to tell they're in a metal band :)
Been a fan for like 10 years, and i feel like im the only one in the world who know and appreciate their art enough, heck, even i found them via a hungarian metal magazine. En knugens man, Par Tyrssons, Mind traveler, Wings of Serenity, Lord of the Blacksmith, and Substitutional World are among my favourite metal songs of all time.
Rest assured there are many more who know to appreciate out-of-the-ordinary vocals and abundance of creative riffs in their Heavy metal! (Probably except born thrashers for whom anything else than a Bay area riff is not a riff, and folk undertones are deemed wimpy...). I find for the open-minded crowd, FALCONER are like the best kept secret (well maybe not anymore?). :) Btw, if you love FALCONER's rendition of folk tune (it essentially is!) "Par Tyrssons dottrar i Vange", you would probably find a lot of that goodness in their "really back to the roots" Swedish language album "Armod". Not sure if you've checked that one out, as you name exclusively favorites from their (legendary) debut album. :)
@@bigg2988 To be honest i probably have all of their albums, i listen them often, but you know when i heard them in 2006, i've been enchanted so much so, that nothing else gave back the feeling quite like the first album. Like is there anything better than wings of serenity? Or in The lord of the blacksmith when the sound of the anvil and hammer comes at the last choir... God it still gives me chills.
@@ayatealsilverborn322 I know! Just a coincidence that I listened to "The Lord of the Blacksmiths" today (well that's how I ended up here :)). In the chorus at the beginning, there seems a split-second reserved for something - as we now know, that something is the sound of mighty anvil! ;] That is genius, and i am sure someone of pretty influential reviewers quoted exactly this song to drive the point across... I agree that no other FALCONER album gives the fan such a full fix of their style as the self-titled. But they all provide huge amount of variety and invention. FALCONER's newest one is actually pretty badass, too, as far as immediacy of impact!
They're a great band. But I always tought that Mathias should always dress and act like in the "Vid Rosornas Grav" music video for their live shows. Imagine that: a kickass power metal band fronted by a XIX century gentleman with a walking cane, a top hat, and an angelic voice. That'd be awesome!
I think Falconer have never been a live band, let alone a theatrical one. My guess is they were doing some live performances only because it was part of their record deal.
They were never meant to be a live act, since day one Stefan formed Falconer as a studio project only, somewhere along the road he got talked into making live shows but the band was not meant to do tours and all that.
this band is just amazing always was and will always be. sadly they stopped as i typed this!! RIP amazing folk power band! may we meet at the portals of light!!
The first time I heard Falconer and that voice, I thought to myself: What the fuck? I didn't understand this stamp I wanted higher more raw. But gradually I understood the soul behind the armor and the charm worked. Today I am a fan. I love it again and again. I discovered them too late because they gave up their arms. Great Art.
Where does one acquire that badass falconer shirt? Also it’s a shame these guys disbanded without a farewell tour but then again they never were much of a touring act. Absolutely killer in the studio though!
I’ve been trying to find a Falconer shirt for years. I couldn’t find one. So I messaged the guitar player to see if he had one. He did and he sent it to me.
The lead singer has a career in stage and performance. It's because of this that this version of the band has barley toured. Blad's commitments to theater made it extremely difficult for the band to secure tour dates. Blad also never had actual experience performing and singing over a Heavy Metal band, hence his awkwardness. The only time the band had many tour dates and shows was when Blad left in 2003 and a different singer replaced him. When Blad came back in 2006, the band once again couldn't secure tour dates due to Blad's commitments to theater. The version that everyone loves is the version that has the least experience live on stage. They never had a chance with Blad as their singer.
could this be concider as metal perfection? this band is too good i cant think or have ever heard a more sounded band, all the positions are just perfect, guitars dear Gods, drums holy f sticks, base fucking owesome and ,hmmmm well that dude singing ,UNIQUE.
Aqui está minha playlist favorita deles Home of the knave Perjury and Sanctity Field of Sorrow Pale Light of Silver Moon The Clarion Call Spirit of the Hawk Royal Galley Royal Galley (acustic) Mindtraveller Upon the Grave of Guilt Boiling Led Substitutional World Halls and Chambers
The public are very weak and passive. If compared with the public here on latin America for sure all of them would be dancing and singing even more louder than the band. Also, the audio problems is a known problem with the Falconer Live presentations...
I adore this band's writing and production. and i can forgive their stage presence especially when its on a big festival. yet, choosing to continou playing after apparently the bass is gone, is very unprofessional in my taste. and some non tightness in the general sound is very noticible. i believe either they should cook themselfs more in rehersals to gain that "falconer" sound or go back and keep the amazing work in the studio again.
Uhm. Continuing to play when an instrument is down is 100% professional. That's what you do, to ensure that the show continues to move on. If a band stops a song every time something goes wrong, the show is gonna be total crap.
I missed the presence of the bass in the song the Clarion call, which in the studio version has very rich lines and fills the spaces in which the guitars harmonize soloing. Another point is that the guitars do not sound well tuned in the harmonized solos. THE BASS IS PRACTICALLY NOT HEARD !!
Great and unique voice of Mathias...on the other hand he is not as charismatic as some other singers like Dickinson or Kiske etc. Slightly reminds me of Hansi Kürsch. Hansi had a problem of navigating with his on stage presence since he let go of the bass but had up spiral curve since then.
Sometimes there's bands that sounds amazing on records but sucks so much live that you would rather listen to lil wayne pulling out some crazy guitar solos. And this band is one of them, as sad as it is.
I fucking love Falconer, absolutely a huge fan, but why can they never get their shit together on stage? Matias is always off key, the guitarist seems to get tired and stops, and the overall vibe is just strange and awkward. Doesn’t make me like the band any less it’s just weird
An abysmal performance. Considering that at this point Falconer had been around for almost 15 years, this is inexcusable. It's not Blad's lack of stage presence, it's the fact that he is off key at several points. The rest of the band fares no better. There is no tightness at all. Not every band can be Status Quo when it comes to how tight you play, but simply put this band is not playing together here.
Agree.. too many "whoops, guess we should have rhearsed a bit more" mistakes. This is something you would expect from a local band at the pub. All the solos were sloppy too. Terrible
Your opinion and criticism is 100% valid. But I can somewhat excuse them, here is why: Mathias is off-key many times on live recordings because the vocals he was supposed to do is really not suited for live performance even for a highly trained pro such as himself. Even in studio these songs might need a few takes at least to properly nail the pitch and timing. The vocals of Falconer songs usually go up and down in a very wide range in a very short time, they use totally different songwriting from the usual metal bands. Everything is just off in this performance, the guitars are straight off terrible. But this is what Wacken wants and deserves every year, half-assed performances under 30 minutes. They are my favourite band but it's clear as day they were always a studio band and it shows. I don't think they ever wanted to do live gigs, I guess they did it only because it was part of the record deal, but this is really just my humble guess. If you check out their last performance with the acoustic songs you can hear that Mathias nails every pitch and note perfectly because the mixing is much better, he can hear himself and he can catch his breath when the tempo is around 135 bpm instead of the usual fast 170.
While some commenters seem like young guys putting down their old folks... :) Maybe the current times are really all about being entertained, and the music becomes secondary... The only thing that kinda bothers me is there are hardly any decent quality videos of FALCONER live (the ProgPower one, maybe?), but from what I see in them i is hardly the musicians' fault.
Since when do people into Rock/Metal care do much about "stage presence?" It's like, one or the most unnecessary things if you make good music. If a good portion of your fandom requires you acting on stage, then they're no different than idiots who antagonize our music and like of Pop and Hip Hop. GTFO of here with your demand of phony looks and garbage theatrics.
Are you serious?? Metal is all about giving a blast of a performance. Not only musically, but it stage presence as well.. If a band is a bore to watch, then why see them live?
No problem, there is, after all, a difference between the terms "concert" and "show". If a rock or metal concert is also a good show - the better for it. :) But the music is usually what matters. Two more points: 1. Those big festivals are usually more about quantity than about quality of performances, as the technical support can be quite poor and hard to adjust between bands. 2. FALCONER are essentially a studio band who come out once in a while on a short tour or special appearance to the pleas of their fans. As such, stage presence is, dare I say, secondary to all concerned... (If we are talking about the "show" criterion, they are not becoming the next IRON MAIDEN for sure! ;))
