I remember the 20 guys on my hockey team phoning the British Consolate in Ottawa to try to sign up to fight for our Queen. The secretary said we'd have to wait in England for 6 months before we could sign up. We knew it would be over by then but, if needed, we will always be there. God Save the Queen from Canada.
I'm Canadian and I think it's undemocratic that our head of state is an unelected dynastic monarch who has no real qualification other than a 'birthright'. The governor general has interfered with the will of the people; proroguing parliament and changing how politics work in Canada. I don't understand why national pride is wrapped up with this anachronistic symbol of imperialism and in my opinion; ignorance. I don't support what the batenburgs or whatever have done in India, China, the Caribbean and Canada. When Canada went to war in WW1 Canadian troops were used as cannon fodder. They also killed princess Diana when she tried to break away.
Another world. Listen to the cockneys singing Rule Britania. My Britain. I was 8 at the time and remember it so well. My dad was so upset when the Sheffield sunk he cried. From Aberdeen
I was 14 then.Doing my paper round I had 4 families with sons all on the task force.Everyday they would be waiting for me at the door for their newspapers.(How times change!) Thank god all 4 lads came home safe.I went with them to the victory salute and we stood near the Bank of England to proudly applaud our troops. The best day of my teenage years.
Fantastic British pride for the young lions who fought in the Falklands.can you imagine that fine parade in 2021 in London? How lives have changed in Great Britain today.
You are totally right. These are reminiscences from days of yore, times long past. The only parades of renown today there are CSD parades. I even doubt that the British army could answer to a new Argentinian attack nowadays
@@alexmarcordes4130 Also yeah it absolutely could lol. The RN is in a stronger state today with two aircraft carriers and f35bs, higher technological capability, only one of two blue water fleets in the world, the other being the USN . We also have a permanent deployment of 2k troops in the Falklands, type 26 which would blow anything Argentina has out of the water. The British Army may also be small and a little underequipped but has more than enough to secure the islands. On the other hand Argentina has a navy of about three fishing patrol boats, no amphibious vehicles, most of their planes date back at least 40 years.
@@Dryhten1801 This is especially funny read after your repaired submarine failed to launch a missile. Diversity killed the greatest white empire in history
Me and my two mates was 14 years old and army mad.. WE decided to bunk off school and watch the parade in London... We told no one.. We left for school as normal and quickly changed and headed from Brentwood station to London.... We had a great day.. Fantastic... The next day at school.. Armed with faked sick notes we all explained our illness and reasons why we didn't go.. We all got a week's detention.. Then all of us summoned to the head master... We was seen on TV... Busted...

When this happened was a little nipper, 7 years old. Both my grandfathers were in the forces, just like most able male in their families. Royal Navy and Royal Artillery, it was their life. Joined as boys, Maltese men were British subjects and proudly served in all wars and conflicts from early 1800s . I grew up with the picture of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II (long May She live). I moved to the U.K. in my early 20s, and reside 7 minutes walk away from the place where the parade was held.
The Crown is garbage and out of touch with the events of the day. Clearly the public did not want Thatcher to stand down as they elected her with a huge majority the following year. She was hugely popular.
I'm from Russia but love England and her culture and aesthetics from my childhood. What a wonderful parade, music ans Margaret Thatcher looks here so beautiful. Michael Heath are funny man. 10/10! P.S I also love British marching step
I was so proud, so proud of the brave men willing to lay there lives for the Falklanders and Great Britain who we owe so much to...what a time as a young 17 year old....
hi, I was 18 at this time and I knew from the beginning that the british army should win because an army of conscripts without a strong ideal to win can't win!!!!! At this time in France we were conscripts as well during one year and I think that the ideal should be very strong only if the country had be invaded and not to go invade a other country without reason!!!!! I salute the bravery of your army!!!!!!!!!
at that time france was helping the argies build nukes as well .....also providing them with excorcet missles to blow up british navy.....seems people forget the two faced french govt.
@@zetlandersoaghar7551 The French did not send exocets during the war, if countries that armed Argentina prior to the war are to be held responsible for British casualties Britain itself is also responsible.

The Prince back then had a certain innocence regarding the capabilities of missiles and film star looks. Who could forget when he presented the Queen with the flowers in his teeth?
Right that the Royal Navy and Marines leads the way, not just because they're the Senior Service but because they were on duty before, during and after the conflict itself (though the Engineers did mine clearance). 23:30 great to see the Royal Engineers, my Army Corps. God Save the Queen. 🇬🇧
Wtf was Argentina thinking? We wouldn't fight away, oh be serious Great Britain away champions for 200 years, we ONLY play away! God bless Raymond Barr HMS Conqueror- gone but not forgot. RIP Raymie
@@rumrain838 yeah probably, more likely they had to give their people a win to take their eyes off what the regime was doing, like disappearing political opponents or to forget their crumbling economy and out of control inflation. No doubt they expected America to broker a deal in their favour but forgot America was neutral at worst but in reality knew Britain had the upper hand regards them invading sovereign territory. They also forgot NATO, an attack against one is an attack against all- luckily for them Britain said "its cool, we got this" or casualties could've been much higher on their side both combat and politically.
I was 10, joined the Royal Marines in 1988, all my PW and PTI cpls we’re Falkland vets. Looking now at the age of 52 it’s on,y 6 years, felt like a lifetime at 16

There was an entire documentary of living testomony from the islanders called 'the islanders story' on you tube.this was previously two hours long but has now been removed and shortened to 1.16 minutes for some strange reason but you can just type wikepedia occupation of the falkland islands and scroll down there is plenty of information about this on the internet just use google :-) scrivi molto bene in inglese complimenti
Bernhardt Memorandum (1910). At the request of the head of the American Department of the Foreign Office, Sidney Spicer, researcher Gastón De Bernhardt prepared a memorandum that condensed the history of the islands and the legal arguments of Great Britain and Argentina. That memorandum served as an internal guide for the Foreign Office until 1938. Bernhardt stated the following: “The question of sovereignty was specifically excluded from the agreement made with Spain in 1771.” This agreement contained a secret clause by which Great Britain was obliged to abandon the islands, which it did in 1774. “For 55 years, until 1829 (that is, until 13 years after Argentina's independence was proclaimed), Great Britain “He showed no interest in the islands.” “Great Britain began to claim the eastern island only in 1829” (it had never claimed it during Spanish rule; this is the island where Puerto Argentino is located). Spicer Letter (1910). In a letter to De Bernhardt himself, Spicer confessed: “It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that the attitude of the Argentine government is not entirely unjustified, and that our action has been somewhat despotic.” Fitzmaurice Memorandum (1936). In February 1936, legal adviser George Fitzmaurice advised against Britain submitting the Falklands question to international arbitration: “Our position has certain weaknesses. But we have occupied the islands for more than a century (albeit illegally, as Argentina says) and for strategic reasons we cannot give them up. So the best thing to do is to take a hard line.”
Much loved by Sharp author Bernard Cornwell. He mentions them a lot in his Sharp novels. Classed as unruly and almost unmanagable by British top brass, but they "fought like demons" in battle.
The British Empire was the FIRST DRUG TRAFFICKING STATE IN THE WORLD During the Opium War, it was the conflict between China and Great Britain between the years 1839 and 1842. The trigger was the introduction into China of opium grown in India and marketed by the British East India Company, administrator of India. UK, had the support of the US who were mediators, who gave them the AM9L Sidewinder missiles that made the difference, allowing them to use Ascencion Island, despite all the help from the US, the Argentine pilots sank 7 English ships, the destroyers CL 42 HMS Sheffield and HMS Coventry, the frigates CL 21 HMS Ardent and HMS Antelope, and more than 24 ships of the Pirate fleet were seriously damaged, including the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible, which the UK never recognized due to the shame they felt when they were ridiculed in NATO.
Maggie wasn't going to let the queen take any of the glory on this one. Even at the time I thought there would be some aggro over this but obviously the palace could not say anything as it was bound to rebound back on them.
Argentina invaded a place that does not want them the Royal Navy and the rest of the British forces chucked them out. Argentina did not know what it would be liker to fight highly trained professional Armed forces, they paid the price...
Sad part of the Armenian Navy's loss of the Belgrano, the ex-USS NEW ORLEANS CL-32, ship that was at Pearl Harbor, 7th December 1941 Attack by the Japanese Empire.. But glad the Lads of the British Forces reigned supreme, and the loss of 250 British Forces, may they always be in the minds and heart of the British Empire! What also is the sad the loss of the British Navy ships.
@@jonathanwilliams1065 keep it for what reason? It was obsolete by US standards. Turn it into a museum ship? Who would pay for it and it's eventual and lengthy upkeep? This wasn't a priority in the post war years. Selling off these old ships to mainly South American countries (the ship my uncle was on at Pearl Harbor, the St Louis, was also sold off) was also seen as a way of keeping these countries as allies and not allowing the Soviets to gain influence in the area; remember, this was the 1950s when these ships were sold off and the Cold War was in full swing.
The 88th Foot embarked in late 1806 on ships to take part in the secret attack on Buenos Aires. They languished on board for a month in Falmouth Harbour, then sailed as part of the convoy to Cape Town. There the troops were not allowed to go ashore. After some time they sailed, via St. Helena, to the Plate estuary, and in July 1807 attacked Buenos Aires
