Oh yes, the old Leaf burrito ! Brings back memories of the younger days when we first started out. Just the other day I sat back with my cousin that helped me start the business and has been with me since day one many many years ago and we were watching the guys work the other day thinking to ourselves, good God has this company grown or what. We went from a tarp to a 16 inch wide hose with diesel engine vacuum and a guy running around on a zero-turn mower with a hydraulic operated leaf plow pushing massive piles of leaves to the vac. I remember when I was young being told by other business owners much much older than I that someday I would set back and realize just how much I've grown and now that day has come for me. Keep up the great videos and God bless

Getting creative and getting it done - I started my mowing company back in March. I was doing it solo, until the jobs grew to be too much and I got a few unemployed friends involved. They came and went, with no one actually really reliable. I was sitting at the kitchen table planning the day, complaining about how much work I had ahead of me because my help was a no call, no show. My wife said " why can't I help you? " just matter of factly. I told her it was hard work, it sucks but if she wanted to she was welcome to give it a try. I expected to have to actually double work that day, going behind her to clean up AFTER she had cleaned up. To my utter amazement, she was the best damn decision I've ever made in my company! We work together now on EVERYTHING. I haven't had to hire a single person since. The customers get off on the fact we are a husband and wife team. Like us on facebook at facebook.com/ddddcvidor

Stan, something that has help me a lot, I have a different mower, but found it extremely helpful to discharge the leaves to one area/strip. Then use a chute blocker and run over the leaves multiple times, (unless wet, if wet you will just smash them into the ground and it will look terrible) then come through with the bagger. It saves a lot of time, but I can take a 12 bag load down to 3 easily. Downside, is your load will be heavier with fewer trips to the drop site. But, if you rig a pull like you showed, its no problem.

Thinking outside the box with the backpack blower and the Grandstand! That's the way to do it! It's nice when your children take interest in the family business. When I worked for my grandfather's retail/wholesale greenhouse business it always brought a smile to his face to see that I was interested in the tricks of the trade. I learned a lot from him and I also taught him a few things along the way.

I have had a lawn service, for many years. Collecting leaves is the big job. l'll give you a little secret to pick up leaves fast. Using my Cub Cadet lawn tractor with multiple bagger attachment I blow/mulch the leaves into windrows and then I BACK over the rows as fast as I need to collect the leaves. I used to push/chase the leaves around, no more. Try it, what do you have to lose.

Chris Smith I was gonna say $50 an hour is dirt cheap especially bringing out a zero turn. I've been knocking out cleanups that size out in an hour or so with two other guys and would charge at least $200. Started bidding this year. one dollar per minute per man. Seems to work out well.

Stanley- I have the same mower to do our cleanups an easier way to minimize the load of leafs it's mulching I know it requires a second mower but what we do its we open the bagger and mow over the entire property after a few pases we pick up and load. a lot less leafs when they are shredded in pieces.

@roaringlion1
@roaringlion1 5 лет назад
I do the same with my 52" walk behind with the bagger on, I let it fill up and than the mulching starts once the bagger is full. Looks like your still sucking up leaves but it shreds them to tiny pieces. Than go over it again and it sucks them up and you get more in the bag on the second go around with them all compacted.

Definitely buying a billy goat leaf vac next fall, it'll help speed up the process and allow us to keep up and take on more work. Our process has been to blow all the leafs out and off the lawn onto the pavement, mow and grind them there and then pile them up into the truck.

Awesome video. Our company services the south metro also. although the leaf season is now pretty much done with this snow. a tip for next season or spring for the folks that will be calling for clean up.... to move mass amounts of leaves...drop your mower deck to ita lowest but not storage setting. for our gravelys its 2". naturally the anti-scalp wheels will keep the deck from mangling up the lawn but serves as a leaf plow. we destroy leaf clean up jobs with just that one factor. no, it does not compromise the integrity of anything on the mower. if youre worried about it, use your blower to clean off your mower. it moves mass amounts of leaves in just a min or two.

hi Stan thanks for sharing your experience. talking About how to haul leaves away with out the equipment, I do it the Same way here in Ohio I have a 16 foot trailer but I put a 2 feet high ply wood around it, I put a torp under the debris in to trailer first so it's easier to pull it out when you get to the dump. I bought a special torp to cover so won't blow away while on the road they do sell them at harbor freight tools for like $40
@freedom1439

We use the ZTR to run over the leaves 1st. This mulches them down a lot smaller. Then we remove them....sometime we will take them to other customers places they like to have them for mulch......I also put them in my garden......

When the leafs blow out the bottom of the deck on the discharge/ blower side of the deck the bagger is either full or the blower is clogged. Rookie mistake to keep going with the blower belt on. They do mulch the leafs down really well if you pull that belt off and run around for a while, you can get a lot more in one bagger once they’re mulched instead of sucking up full sized fluffy leafs.

Stan tip here for your crew. When unloading the burrito two guys grab the passenger corners of the tarp and roll or pull that to the drivers side. if its to heavy 3rd person can get under that tarp, lift up and push that right off the trailer. Also when hauling mulch not only tarp it but put a tarp under it. I prefer the mash tarps this especially save product from falling through the boards of a trailer and saves a lot of time. With two men and mulch in the bed of a truck if they grab the front of that tarp that's under the mulch they can roll that mulch to the tail gate quick.

We lose a canvas tarp on the floor for leaves and small limbs. Once it's full we use a 3/4" Polly rope and some big rocks we found insert them in the corners of the tarp then tie the rope in a choker rope are und the knots. Attach the other end to a stump or something stationary and pull forward unloading the whole trailer in less than 5 minutes. U can also use the rope by itself to pull limbs out of trailer.

I have a way to get the leaves off the trailer pretty easily. Use multiple tarps like layers of a cake. Pack one on the bottom. Then put a smaller one down when you have about as much as you want to drag. You keep doing these layers as you go. Then unloading is a matter of pulling them off one at a time.

You oughta be able to 'crunch and munch' leaves with your standers...I always found that corralling leaves into a pile with a stander and then once you get a reasonable pile start going in reverse (chute facing away from the center of the pile now), for some reason reverse seems to cut finer. No dumping! You essentially mow the leaves to dust, it's pretty quick too. The yard in the video could have been done that way but it was probably easier with the bagger. But it is a fine line, could have been crunched.

I always give the customer a bid that's a little over what I think it will be and then tell them or less . so for example , I know that the job will probably be a $260 job but I will tell the customer it's $290 or less. this gives me a little wiggle room Plus when the customer gets the bill it comes in under the 290 and give them the feeling that I'm not going to screw them over and that I gave them a good deal.

Google the best residential lawn care company in your area and call them for a bid on the properties you'll be working on. Then calculate the hour rate they'll charge. Then divide it in half and that's your rate to start out at. In my area the best was charging 152 hr. So I would start out at 76 hr. or 1.22 a min.

So you charge a $40 dump fee but you ended up blowing the leaves into the bushes???

Why do you dump leaves into a wetland area? Can not do that in North East.

Chuck Stone there was a company in our town that just got a huge fine for dumping a massive pile of leaves in the swap on State Property. Our town has a natural dump site but it's a $600 season fee to dump there so I'm assuming this no-name company couldn't afford the dump fee so they just decided to dump it on State Park property and right in a swamp . One of my guys took a picture of the leaf pile on the state property right on the side of the road and I about died laughing thinking that someone would absolutely think they could get away with that.
