With 4 days to film, Todd Moen invited Jakob Lund to be his angler on camera in this fly fishing trout spey film on Alaska's Kvichak River. As Todd's wingman, Jakob Lund has fishing in his blood and grew up trout fishing in his native country of Denmark. Jakob's experience with two handed micro spey rods and larger spey rods made him the perfect choice for a film of this caliber. Brutal conditions demanded excellence in angling technique, and Jakob nailed it. Special thanks to the Evening Hatch for putting this trip together for Jakob and Todd. So good. I saw the discussion below about length. I think your videos are the perfect length. You get right to the fishing with nice simple voiceovers or just music. No time wasted watching someone cook breakfast or drive to the river or launch the boat like so many other fly fishing videos. And your videography and editing is pure art. Nobody comes close!

Please tell me Todd Moen got to swing up at least one Kvichak Rainbow! The drool factor was off the charts on this video!

Here in Alaska all the rainbows in our rivers are native, not hatchery fish and Alaska dept of fish and game regulations says all native rainbows must be released! Only ones are stocked our found in a few lakes up here.
@tannerhughes6274
@tannerhughes6274 3 месяца назад
@@TroyOttosen-jg7tt that’s not true. I’m reading the 2024 regulations, and it’s more specific for different areas, but I’m seeing an annual limit of 2 20 inches or larger, or 2 a day/ 2 in possession and only one may be 20 inches or larger. That’s for lakes and ponds. For flowing waters it’s catch and release April 15-June14. And im just on this one page for this one area. I haven’t looked through the whole booklet yet of the regulations. And I grew up/live here in Anchorage, AK.

Loved the Kvich. We used to call some of those bows "land locked steelhead". Some of the fish are pure chrome and have larger fins with no spots below the lateral line. They look just like a steelhead frezh from the ocean some even have lice. They only come into tbe river to feed on occasion. The largest I held was a touch over 18 pounds.

Hello Todd? How are you? In every fly fishing trip video that you produce, there is always something new and very interesting to watch and as a beginner content creator I get the inspiration so I need to watch it several times. A good video with a duration of 11:42 feels very short. Awesome isn't it?!
@CatchMagazine
@CatchMagazine Год назад
Thanks! So you think longer films would be better? Many times I'm stuck with tough fishing, so to keep the films flowing short is sweeter than long and drawn out.

@CatchMagazine
@CatchMagazine Год назад
Thank you! Bears were around but we didn’t see any on this trip. Just tracks. Many times when your in a jet boat for a week, the noise of those engines will spook the wildlife. They are close by but just far enough into the bush that you don’t see them. Thanks for watching! Appreciate it.
@qdowling
@qdowling 11 месяцев назад
Not too many bears down there. Not optimal habitat. Used to guide the Kvichak. We’d see a few but nothing like some of the smaller rivers where the fishing is easier for the bears.

What weight two handers for Alaskan trout fishing like this, 6wt? A 10lb rainbow could easily require a 7wt as well. Curious about rod setups.
@CatchMagazine

some of use are just too addicted to two handed rods.
@CatchMagazine
@CatchMagazine Год назад
It does look strange but it’s not really about that in these situations, it’s about being able to punch the line across a huge river and cover tons of water.
@morgangriffith6226
@morgangriffith6226 10 месяцев назад
Not strange at all, it's becoming very popular for more reasons than just backcasting space. It's more fun, simple as that!

I've been using a trout spey setup for river smallies here in the Great Lakes and it is a RIOT. I can fish a two hander all year, even when it's too hot for salmonids. Great piece, Todd. These anglers seem like my kind... absolutely fucking _deranged._
