You're working on the albigensian crusades? I know that the cathars were a much bigger deal at the time but It would really be appreciated if you touched on the Waldenses who were killed at the same time. As a protestant I find them fascinating especially since they survived (albeit much reduced) to the present day. I've heard that some of them traced their movement to Claudius of Turin in the 800s although it's more commonly believed that Peter Waldo began the movement with his bible translation contemporary with the cathars.

It's more about optics for NATO members to remind them of it's authority to internal stakeholders, so it knows most of what it's doing is only for show but needs to keep doing so as to not lose it's ability to bring together the united power of it's members. Another key reason is the simple fact the NATO does not want to be the ones blamed for WW3, if it was not clear for one nation to block trade of another nation against it's will is very much an act of war. So for NATO to block for instance North Korea from supplying weapons or from China from it's own support would be deemed an act of war and this would be used as grounds by the dictators of the three nation as grounds for a global conflict. SO I know it can be frustrating when the solution to blocking Russia's trade seems simple, but the reality is far from simple and it will take much more hardship and a more clear global threat before any group like NATO is willing to act directly against this current Axis of aggression. @@mrbeep8096

I have a quick question for you guys at Kings and Generals; The list of unit losses for both Ukraine and Russia shows 290 drones and 350 drone losses respectively. But when it comes to a loss of a 'suicide drone' like the shahed types, Are you counting it as a loss if the Shahed has been shot down or destroyed on the ground before launching it? Or are we counting the drones that successfully hit their targets as losses? Technically the drone has been lost, but it did its job successfully. Afterall the Shahed's are designed to be destroyed.

Regarding the "decision on the new mobilization is not made yet" This is not very correct statement because mobilization in Ukraine continues on daily basis and never stopped. It is not as efficient as we expected but it is in progress. The new "decision/law" is NOT about the additional mobilization. It is about the increasing efficiency of current daily mobilization via increasing the punishment for draft-dodgers and via promotion of the recruiting and via reducing the minimum age for mobilization. From what I heard Zelenskyi also decided to make an "audit" of the already mobilized stuff since many of them are in the rare and have never been to the front-lines (due to corruption, bribes, influential relatives or other factors such as alcoholism or zero physical form).

Moreover, students do not have to fight according to the same law. In Ukraine you are a student from 16 to 23 years in general. That is one of the main reason of the average age mid-40. The other reason is the population pyramid of Ukraine. The number of people aged 40-60 is MUCH bugger than the number of people aged 20-40 (1990s was a very hard time in Ukraine due to hard transition from communism to capitalism - the fertility level seriously declined).

The night is darkest before the dawn, it could very well be that this turn of events will push NATO towards bigger involvement from fear of Russia gaining further legitimacy from it's allied nations and how this unity among dictators would spell the end to global peace as we know it. Currently a possibly outcome would be for Putin to be assassinated by a local Russian leader as part of a internal political upheaval (of course it would be likely with support of foreign nations looking to end the conflict without a direct engagement). The litmus test for this outcome would boil down to Russian public opinion, the west lives in hope that Russia is wanting to be free of Putin but the reverse could be proven to be true should Putin be taken out of the picture and it be shown the the average Russian is as fanatical as the media portrays them to be (uniting behind an even worse dictator and pushing towards WW3). A key reason the average Russian dislikes the west is around the global energy revolution, Russia is still very much a traditional energy producer and faces economic destruction should it not be able to remain viable in a renewable's led energy future (it's massive troll campaign is very much also directed at attaching renewable's at any given chance). In fact the invasion of Ukraine was very much to buy time (along with other reasons) for it's energy sector to buy time while the world moves away from it's products. Ukraine's electric grid and it's nuclear/renewable growth meant it could undercut the nord pipelines or any attempt at Russian electric offerings to Europe (the massive amount of land between would make Russia's product more expensive then any offering by Ukraine). So it was no surprise when Russia invaded and systematically destroyed the energy infrastructure whenever it had the chance.

Arguably, Putin is in the best position he's been in in a long time. He crushed the Wagner Uprising, and subsequently eliminated both Yevgeny Prigozhin and Wagner's influence. And now with his most outspoken critic Alexei Navalny dead, the last major symbol of opposition has pretty much crumbled. And with Russia cut off from much of the global economy due to the sanctions, Putin was able to capitalize on that and expand the state's influence over the economy. I said before that Putin's real war of attrition wasn't with Ukraine, but the West. He was banking on the alliance breaking apart through his opponents losing political power, and it seems to be working. Arguably, the biggest winner in the Israel/Hamas Conflict is Russia. And with the USA's political infighting, it doesn't even matter to Putin if Trump loses the election, as long as the results keep Congress in gridlock. And while Ukraine's ammo stockpile continues to dwindle, Russia is able to both keep pumping out ammo in the factories, as well as getting new shipments from other powers like North Korea. At this rate, all Putin has to do is just keep up the slow march of attrition, and he likely will be able to claim victory.

No amount of equipment would have saved Avdiivka. Tactical mismanagement on the Ukranian side caused the collapse. Multiple units have been noted to have been fighting for months (some since the start of the war) without being cycled for freash troops. The point is, the Ukranian lines shattered because the regiments there were just left there by their commanders to be eradicated by the Russians. Also, it's poignant to note that Avdiivka is the battle in which the Russian army finally figured out how combined arms warfare works. Before it seemed that the Russians had no idea how Close Air Support works.

However, while in 2023 they did gain ground they were minor and the Ukrainians wasted too much of their potential at that time. And if you actually look at the gains in 2023, at the actual land and the tactical significance of it compared to the general state of the war effort on both sides, at least in my opinion the Ukrainian offensive was disastrous for Ukraine. The only goal Ukraine achieved in 2023 was in PR and that was only true in the first part of the year. After that its all downhill. And the downhill part was so predictable because Ukraines offensive at least to me seemed like a guy who really pumped himself up, told all his friends how he was gonna fuck this guy up, made a trailer about how this guy who previously ran away was gonna get his ass handed to him, swallowed his own koolaid then ran straight into a brick fucking wall without a helmet. And well now hes brain damaged, lost a lot of his competency and decided it might be time to start building up a wall. Realistically, they may be higher, but in my opinion, writing about 50,000 deaths and 100,000 deaths. this is wishful thinking with no support from anything other than AU propaganda. Ukrainian losses are estimated by pro-Russian sources at 5,000-7,000 dead, but in my opinion they are greatly overestimated. Based on my sources, I estimate very uncertainly at up to 3,000-4,000 dead and about 15,000 wounded. But this value will certainly be revised. I estimate the irretrievable personal losses at approximately 5:1 minimum in favor of the Ukrainians. Return personal losses, however, are less favorable and amount to a minimum of 3-4 to 1. This is a complete delusion, in all countries in which grain is imported there are mandatory checks that the grain must pass. If they did not pass any inspection, then it would not be imported. The reason for the cheapness of grain is that the prices on the international grain exchange are lower than usual, and Russia is to blame for this, which stole Ukrainian grain and sells it at reduced prices.

In this case I would suspect it's a bit more convoluted then a case of farmers being undercut by foreign growers (yes this may the the end conclusion but to get here there is an elephant in the room needing to be discussed). That elephant in the room just happens to be international big business, with it's combined power to influence regulation (leveraging things like quality of crop to it's advantage) the end result is the farmers who are forced to work under these rules lose the ability to self produce things like seeds or the ability to self manage fertilisation and pest control over their fields. As time marches on the companies extend their influence over farmland via intellectual property and in many ways can be seen as joint owners in every farm that uses their products despite being paid by the farmers for the product and the business not actually buying the farmland itself (if it does it is with the money paid to it by the farmers in the first place). There is much debate about how this process of corporate control will take shape in the next stages of it's push to control global food production. One outlook could see mega farms appear and the average farmer pushed out of business (forced to sit on fertile soil and unable to produce commercial offerings due to the seeds and everything else needed being owned by the big companies and the regulations making any attempt at growing food illegal). The other option would see farmers taking on debt to the companies they get their products from and this debt being leveraged as growing ownership over their farmland until they are run out of business, from here automation would pick up and the farmlands would be run into the ground with only a few major centralised farmlands remaining in each nation (again the big finish would be the mega farms but in this case there would be a few more steps involved). The European Union like much of the rest of the world needs to contend with the growing power of a few to control the means of food production on a global setting before the world itself if brought to it's knees in a way not yet seen before (Russia would likely be laughing the entire way as it needs global anarchy for it to continue it's goal of toppling the world order in its favour)

And about the russian grain import: the difference is that we did import russian grain before the war, and we still unfortunately do (though there is a plan to stop this). We also did import some of the ukrainian grain, but now as the war is ongoing, Poland became a literall dumpster for ukrainian farmers to sell their produce easily, without transporting it very far. @KingsandGenerals
@KingsandGenerals 2 месяца назад
First you need to understand that wars are not linear. "If we invest X amount of money, we will win" is not how wars are fought. Second is the limited information we have on the opposing forces. For instance, unlike the first months of the war when Russia used mostly BMP-3s, now BMP-1s and MTLBs are used to desant the infantry. What does that mean? Does that mean that Russia lost too many 3s and can't replace them or that 1s are more numerous? We don't know. Same with the tanks - older, less modernized tanks are now in use more than before. Again, we don't know why. What about the will to fight? How can you quantify it? In short, no one can give you a number.
@rantymcrant-pants9536

They're not going to, I doubt anyone is expecting them too. I don't think there is any chance of status quo ante bellum, and little chance Russia will give anything up without some major event shifting the tide entirely. What is being played for is exhausting Russia to the point they are unable to launch more special operations, but not to the point where the state collapses.

Depends on your definition of a victory. Will Russia get pushed back to pre-war borders? Most likely not. Will Russia win this war without a massively bleeding nose? I've seen videos from people living in Russia and the economy there is in an even worse spot it had been before. Not to mention civil unrest everywhere but Moscow. I have no doubt that this war will eventually end in a treaty that will see Russia going home wit ha hefty chunk of Ukraine. But whether or not they'll be able to keep things stable in their own borders is another matter entirely. The main thing that keeps Putin in power is money, and a lot of powerful people are very salty about how deep he's starting to dig in their collective purses. Putin is far more replaceable than he makes himself out to be. Time will tell, but I wouldn't be surprised if NATO as a whole comes out of this stronger, while Russia will have a limp and internationsal shame/isolation to deal with for years to come. Whatever the case, none of this was worth the cost in human life...

People said the same thing to me two years ago lol. Take a look at the facts and how war machines run and it was obvious how the war was going to go so far for the most part. Reading about wars past and how the soviets conducted themselves you can point to all the similarities. I don’t think it will be clean but I think Russia may eventually have to back down, as long as goods flow in from the west and grain and other exports flow out, Ukraine will more than likely hold for at least three more years

And the bigger problem with that is that the worse things get for Ukraine the worse all of their issues will get as the western partners slowly back out. I'll gladly eat my words if I'm wrong but in my opinion whatever remains of Ukraine will be a shitty rump state that potentially even loses Odessa. But we'll see. If NATO sends troops directly then we're all gonna probably die and this won't have any relevance anyway.
