I have used that planting guide for years and never thought to fold it to line up the later months. Lol. I wanted to add that potatos are a great fall crop. I have to use my leftover spring potatos as seed as you can't generally buy them. It allows the leftover fall crop to be used in spring. Win/win
It really helps me to see more clearly! I've got a few potato varieties growing as well and I'm with you on planting from saved seed potatoes. Happy gardening!
I have had terrible results with potatos but sweet potatos I do very well I have 6 tall mineral tubs and since they grow down ward I know I am getting a big crop because one tub already has 4 trying to break the top telling me they are running out of room. Hubby is diabetic so sweet potatos he can do so I grow a lot for us, mom who is 89 and a elderly couple down the street.
If youre a coffee drinker, I’d like to buy you some maybe at Red Horn in Cedar Park some day. Im always looking to link up with more Central Tx gardeners
Starting my fall garden with seeds now broccoli’s, cauliflower, cabbage , radish , I would do carrots but still have A lot of canned carrots so not doing that till late February.
Just the video I needed. Through your help last year I got some great crops but, like the carrots, took a long time. I might go ahead and put the frost covers on at your 50F suggestion. It's better than nail-biting timing a frost. At 50F - I know I'm good if the weather really dips in the am. Thanks!
Now the weather really is about to change! Given the early winter weather on the way, I’ve got to get some row cover in this weekend. We’ll warm up again but 30s and 40s for a couple of days is gonna to be a shock! I also have indoor seed starting equipment on the way so I can move the seedlings inside for a while.
This was helpful. I live in Central Texas. I grew up in Montana so it’s been a challenge figuring out the seasons for me. Id like to chat if you can as to what you’ve figured out so far regarding the seasons and starting. I just started some things too late I think. Its getting a little frustrating
I'm presenting at The Natural Gardener on Saturday, October 26th at 10 am. The class will be on fall through winter vegetable gardening in Central Texas. I also offer consultation services.
This is a great and informative video. I am really looking for a video on fall central texas planting that goes like this Plant (insert type of plant like root veg or brasica) like this (insert method - seed indoors, sow outdoors etc) and show me pictures. lol . short attention span short on time. Thank you though
I grow garlic every year, and it's fairly easy to do. Check out this video if you're interested, it has lots of general information ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uQIa_m5R_MU.html
Hi! Cool to see you on CTG! I have a citrus question. Is it normal for meyer lemon tree to get flowers when it has nearly mature fruit? Fruits are pretty large but still green.
My fall plantings only just now started bearing. I think they’ll carry in a while longer while I wait for my starts of cold weather greens to get bigger. I’m still having trouble getting spinach to sprout. Don’t know why. Seed is fresh. Everything else came up with 100% germination. I’ve got several icebox watermelons on the vine. Hope they get to mature. The plants have been growing since June but just a couple of melons formed until the temps finally dropped earlier this month.
I'm not exactly sure, but I would experiment with onions, garlic, and spinach. With a low tunnel structure covered with heavy-duty frost cloth, other options may be possible. Thanks for watching!
Here's a link to the one that I use travis-tx.tamu.edu/files/2020/06/Vegetable-Planting-Calendar-Travis-2015.pdf You might search for one in your county, but this can give you some ideas. I would imagine that you'd plant a little later than what this recommends.
