CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Two golfers get rowdy when they see William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) walking in the middle of their course.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

Xaveric, to say a movie has one singular "point" is kind of missing it. Movies are best when no one character is perfect, and Falling Down is a great example of that. Even Pendergrast, the morally upstanding veteran cop, clearly made mistakes in his life, marrying his chubby wife, retiring from a job he loves, and moving to a shithole in Arizona for her for example. D-Fens is certainly not without his flaws, no one is. But a simple fact of movies is that different people will watch the same movie and identify most with different characters.

I honestly feel more bad for his friend. Golf is fun and all he wanted to do was have a nice day out of the golf course and his friend had to pick a fight.
@seeker.8785
@seeker.8785 3 года назад
It's funny how you see the old golfing partner as, if I understand you correctly, an innocent victim, yet you point only to his friend who "picked a fight" as the evil one who caused his troubles. Meanwhile there was a man carrying a sawed off shotgun deliberately across a private golf course just waiting for someone to give him an excuse to pull it out, who is the man that actually threatened to shoot him and his friend, and deprived him of his life saving medicine, about whom you apparently had nothing bad to say. Of whom was that golfer a victim, really?

@@seeker.8785 dude don't get into this. I'm not saying Fosters an innocent character either no one did you just made a stupid assumption.
@seeker.8785
@seeker.8785 3 года назад
@@honestdave I merely made an observation about your choice of emphasis, that the only cause of that man's troubles which you bothered to name happened to be the one not carrying the shotgun. Yes I think it implies that the man not carrying the shotgun is guiltier in your mind, but I didn't say that was what was truly in your mind for certain. Anyway I'm not trying to drag you into any argument you don't want a part of. But I really hate this movie.

@@seeker.8785 well that honestly makes sense cuz you're not supposed to sympathize with Foster but you're also not supposed to sympathize with the world around him this movie is not for everyone trust me. I'm sorry if I offended you with my comment but I'm just speaking my mind
