I have a black A1, and I would recommend the Kydex sheath for almost any environment as it works in cold and wet environments like up here in Sweden but also in sandy,dusty environmnts where a tighter leather sheath may lead to the knife becoming scratched or dulled. Also, I can attest to the phenomenal edge retention and the usefulness of the exposed tang on the back as a small field hammer.
The F1 is a superb knife originally designed for the swedish airforce as their survival knife.However look also at the S1 which weighs only190gms to the 310gms of the A1 with the same blade shape.A folding saw will greatly enhance wood processing capabilities but make sure it is of the right quality.In my opinion dont choose a set of tools,choose them individually on their own merits.When you choose a survival knife do it without compromise it may have to do everything for you.
I have a Falkniven IDUN since many years and its just outstanding, its sharpness is amazing. I own several knives of different brand and steels, but my Falkniven is just the best. Even carbon steel can't reach it. If anyone here doubt, so just try one. My next buy will be the A1!
When choosing any blade material, there is always compromise.High end stainless you have superb edge retention and corrosion resistance, but is more prone to chipping.Carbon tool steels have more strength, easier to resharpen, but less edge retention sharpness and corrosion resistance. I chose the A1 because I work in humid salty and wet environments. I have never chipped the A1 in 3 years, but I am always careful how i handle knives always with respect even in hard use.
I also prefer leather. Keep in mind that with a stainless steel blade, the importance of using a sheath that doesn't hold moisture is markedly diminished.
@redeemer61190 trust me iv used from 1095 carbon to all sorts of stainless and believe me after i used fallkniven knives for the outdoors you cant ask for more , the chips are very small even if you end up hitting rock and it sharpens out really fast with a wetstone your not going to regret buying it i sold all my knives and replaced them with a line of fallkniven knives
who gives a crap if it chips out when you hit concrete, its a outdoors bushcraft knife if anyone knew how to use an outdoors knife made for bushcraft they wouldnt chip out their blades , anything wooden you put in front of this knife it will cut through like a chainsaw iv used it to baton logs as thick as almost the whole length of the blade and chipped them with no problem even the hardest wood iv chipped it and resharpened it over 100 times and the blade can still be used to years more
HELP ! After much review I spent 200$ on amazon and got a Fallkniven A1 in silver. I am concerned if it is a fake or the real deal. The box has the hologram, barcode, and brown box BUT my big concern is that the lamination lines on both sides are not even. At the tip of the knife the lamination lines do not meet at the same point one curves back at a different angle vs the other, also they have some imperfection not very straight. I want you to look at your A1's and let me know if your knife exhibit the same build quality.
+knightnox5 I had one with lines not at the same height, Fallkniven told me that tends to happen, and that they had some batches come in like that, it's prob the real deal nonetheless.
