I'm just gonna keep commenting about your actually very well put together video. So far not even 5 minutes in and I'm still praising your work. Specifically I feel your presentation is very professional more akin to somthing a person with 5k subs would be making. Earned a sub today my guy ...

Props to you for covering Fallout 3 for 3 hours and 25 minutes before mentioning the New Vegas elephant in the room. I think FO3 would be held in a lot higher regard if NV didn't exist. It's a perfectly fun game on it's own merits

There are legitimately things fallout 3 does better than new Vegas. The atmosphere of 3 is better in my opinion and exploring is always worth it. New Vegas has a decent number of nothing to grab here locations. Fallout 3 always has something, even in the unmarked areas. Even if it's just a skill book that's gonna give you 1 to 2 points in a skill that's better than the nothing you can often find in new Vegas at times. New Vegas is the better game overall, but man.. there's nothing like exploring the capital wasteland. Between the two I think I might like 3 more but I've put hundreds of hours into both.

This is the opinion of someone who has went out of there way to take explorer and go to every single location in both games.

There is one other thing, apart from Bethesda, connecting Fallout 3 and Oblivion. It's my favourite game, the absolute greatest G.O.A.T. of all time, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War. The Elder Scrolls composer created the music for Dawn of War (also known as Gabe's Crazy Adventures on Tartarus), and the Fallout 3 composer made the music for Dawn of War's expansion Winter Assault (also known as A Ball Of Ice On A Pointy Stik or The Only Canon Eldar Victory In A Videogame Since 1997). I need to stop trying to be funny, nobody will get that last one.

When started watching this video, had Mama Chicken Flavour noodles myself. Did try out Fallout 3 for a good bit, had fun with the Ripper, sawin' through the occasional wasteland fool and the ant segment sure stuck out. Granted, it was obviously a "Them!" reference. This goes off to a separate subject but when you mentioned Dr Pepper, it reminded me when I tried out the drink for the first time, or rather soon after. Namely a game I connect to the drink probably just because I had plenty of it at the time; Mega Man 7. One of those connections through memories things and all. It was the time when I would rent games for NES and SNES during my stays at my grandparents (and aunts) place, with MM7 being one of the many games I got to try out, hauling my console to the place in a sports bag. It may or may not have been at about '96 or '97 because I remember the Simpsons episode "Burns Baby Burns" at around that time. This comment went maybe haywire but that's how it goes.

Fez, I'm still lovin' those food updates, pal haha. I always find it interesting knowing what people are up to while watching the video. I've heard both "eating" and "playing games" so far. I also have a food/game related memory. It was playing the .Hack series of RPG games on the PS2. I was munching on some Doritos at the time and now I can't eat them anymore without remembering exactly what I was doing in the game at the time. Strange how that works!

I think what your feeling with the dlc's not "feeling" like Fallout, is the rest of the game is open and free. You're free to pick up quests and do them at your leisure, and to put them on the back burner for other quests. With the dlc's, you are locked into doing that questline, which plenty of other quests do lock you into a that quests narrative, but not for a full questline. And not only are you locked into that questline, you're confined to seperate smaller world space, with Zeta much smaller, or at least more claustrophobic. Thats been my issue with them anyway. Especially for a certain dlc from New Vegas.

I want to give a quick comment on the "judging the entire game by the ending" thing. Now, I will preface this by saying that I loved Fallout 3 and still do. Also, I didn't mind the ending back then and I still don't. But I can also see how an ending can make or break an entire story for you. It didn't happen for me with Fallout 3, but it did happen for me with some other franchises. For example: I will probably never watch "How I Met Your Mother" again, despite how much fun I had with the show over many years, just because how much the ending betrayed the entire story that was built up. I have heard stories of people having similar experiences after watching the ending to "Lost" (a show I have never seen) for basically doing an "It was all a dream" ending. Or, to go back to videogames: I had to mod the ending of Mass Effect 3 for me to ever be able to replay the trilogy, because I would not have had the strength to go down that path again if it would end up leading to that same horseshit conclusion. So while it didn't happen to me in Fallout 3, I can (unfortunately) completely understand how the ending could potentially destroy your enjoyment of the whole game leading up to it. Yeah, allegedly the journey is its own reward, but it can still leave a sour taste in your mouth if you DO get a reward that actually belittles your accomplishments up to that point. But I do pity the players to whom this happened... PS: Still loved your video, just like all the ones before it. Thank you for telling me to eat Pizza for dinner! :D

Actually just after my video on Arena my computer actually completely died and I had to get a new one and with this channel in mind I did my best to build a pretty high end modern computer. I wanted to "future proof" myself and I had to sacrifice my first born, sell my soul, open an only fans, and break bad but I ended up with. GeForce RTX 4090 2TB of space (1TB NVMe and 1TB SSD) AMD RYZEN 9 7950 ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero 64GB of RAM (DDR5) And a few other bits and bobs, especially for cooling since I live in a really hot place. Truthfully I had to get whatever was in stock, from wherever I could and as quickly as I could. It's actually the first time in my entire life I've ever had a computer that was "brand new".

@LycaniteTV Год назад
I honestly can't remember to much about Fallout 4, which may or may not be a good thing. As for 76... Yeah, I've got things to say. Memories to be told but... I'm not sure if I should cover it or not. It's a tough one. I think it's been covered to death so I'm not 100% sure what I could bring to the table but I do have history with it so... Yeah who knows. What I will say is I remember 3 and NV far better than I do 4 and 76, which is weird because those are the most recent Fallout games I played (ignoring the play throughs for these videos of course).
@FelisImpurrator
@FelisImpurrator Год назад
My actual reason for hating the ending is different. Personally, I just don't enjoy how hard Fallout 3 leans into the Christian imagery and don't believe in the "virtue" of sacrifice as a concept, so I don't like the moral assumptions of it all. I've always hated forced sacrifice as a narrative device, and a lot of games of the era used it a ton - Fallout, Mass Effect, and so on. Guess I was always just one of those JRPG types of players. Earn your golden ending where everyone lives.

I just wrapped up watching this, I think for the second time, but I really paid attention this time. I disagree with a ton that you said in here, though a lot of that comes down to personal preference, I'm not accusing you of lying or misrepresenting anything per se. I think something you should back off of for future videos is the whole, "it's ok if you feel however you feel about this," attitude, not that that's bad of itself, but I think you put too fine of a point on it. I have my own opinions, it's fine if we disagree, I already know this. Be more assertive in what you think and why, and don't worry so much about getting backlash, or if you are going to worry, don't let the audience see you worry.
@LycaniteTV
@LycaniteTV 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the honest feedback! I'm always trying to learn from each video so I can improve in the future. I always worry about "treading on peoples toes" y'know. I've always been like that but in the short time I've been making these videos I've been told to just own my opinion and not bother trying to please everybody - because I won't. You can't. Some people will listen and understand, like yourself and others will just go for the jugular because you didn't like the game as much as they did and for the exact same reasons they did. I never want to hurt peoples feelings or take away from their personal enjoyment of the games I cover. But the truth is (again like you said). I need to be more assertive and hope that the person watching understands that this is all my own opinion and we can either agree with each other or agree to disagree. But yeah again, thanks for the feedback, Alan. It means a lot to me! I've taken what you said to heart and will do my best to learn from it, pal. Take care!

3 from what I know is in that position of being liked by everyone, loved by no-one. The Classic fans hate it less than 4 or 76, but they still see it as the game that stole THEIR series and hold a lot of resentment. The No Mutants Allowed Forums(OG Fallout Forums) don't take too kindly to 3D fallout fans. The Hardcore Modern Bethesdaists can play it and enjoy it, but they don't like the slower pace and lack of action compared to 4 or 76. And the middle era fans who don't like the modern stuff or the old stuff view it as worse New Vegas. New Vegas is in a similar position, but better on all fronts. Everyone 'likes' it, but they all have different small complaints and things they would fix. Classic Fans don't like the 3 era lore or retcons being included, the fact it isn't turn based(or doesn't have the option anyway), and the fact it contradicts Fallout Van Buren and Tactics. Modernist Fans would prefer a faster paced combat system with more FPS mechanics, better graphics, and more fast travel options. And the Intermiateists just want it to be finished and have all that cut content added. From what I've seen, Fallout is less one fandom and more two and a half fandoms slowly turning into 3. If you mention the first two games on the discord or the forums, they'll tell you it's old crap that isn't real Fallout and to ignore all the old idiots on the forums. They view the first two games as a thorn in their side that just leads to whiny complaining about lore none of them care about. If you go to the old forums, they're 90% discussing the first 2 games and don't allow 3D Fallout fans in, they're basically hunkering down and waiting for the day Bethesda dies and they can take back the franchise, make everything after 2 non-canon, and start over by rebuilding the original Fallout 3, Van Buren. I've never played anything but the first game so who knows tho, can't actually watch this video

Its definitely a game that stands on its own and its still fun to play even today if you stick to exploring and side quests, but I do feel like Bethesda could never up their game after that, by the time Skyrim came out we already had New Vegas. If you look at the writing of the upcoming Starfield you can see the same flaws already, the game just doesnt feel as imaginative as New Vegas or even Outer Worlds, I really wish Todd could round up all their writers throw them off a cliff and hire new ones, but alas.

i love fallout 3 it was nice to replay it after playing 1 and 2 to see how much was changed added or lost honestly i still think the capital wasteland is the most fun world to just explore well 1 and 2 might have a better main quest then 3 i think the world of fallout 3 was able to feel like fallout if anything i think fallout 3 feels more like the first game then 2 i feel like both fallout 1 and 3 give you this sense of loneliness and that was one of the reasons why i love these games its a feeling that 3 for the longest time was the only game that gave off that feeling after playing 1 i think it also can give off that feeling and i like that as well but fallout 2 does not have the same feeling if anything i would say NV and 2 have the same feeling to them well with NV building on what 2 did well 3 goes for the same feeling as fallout 1 well also being kind of a reboot

As a fan of Bethesda games since the mid 90s when I stumbled upon Daggerfall, I was eager yet cautious about this game, being that I never played any of the previous Fallout games. In the early part of 2009, my friend knew how much I liked Bethesda games and actually bought me Fallout 3. I was living with my girlfriend at the time, but she had went up north to visit her sister, we couldn't afford two plane tickets at the time, nor could I take off work. So my friend I mentioned earlier came over to keep me company and to check out the awesome new game he bought me. Later that night my girlfriend called me and she said her, mom, and her sister have been talking and it lead to them planning on us getting married later that year... so I was actually playing Fallout 3 when I got engaged.😅... still married almost 14 years later.

And so I come to my end of binging your Fallout videos as well, fantastic stuff, I can't wait for the 7 hour New Vegas review where half the runtime is you apologizing for taking stances in morally gray and complicated quests. I completely agree with your take at the end there, Todd has one style of games he's mastered making, it's just sad it cost us two one of a kind RPG franchises to get what we got. I'm super excited to see Starfield, the first time he gets to make HIS game, without any prior expectations from oldschool fans.

I played the first and second games way after I played the third game and never played tactics, so it made sence that they would persist even after the destruction of the oil rig base in fallout 2. I think your right though if I had played 2 and beat frank and saved my village I'd be pissed they somehow were just chilling somewhere else but I can't say that it doesn't make sence they didn't put all their eggs in one basket but after 3 major bases destroyed they can't have more than 1 that is any major threat.

Nah, man, you're totally right. Broken Steel sucks. A) They should have found a way to let you continue on without taking away from the original ending. Like, you can only play Broken Steel if you picked Sarah or a companion to do it (because I agree, they should have had a 3rd ending). If you sacrificed yourself, you can't do Broken Steel. (Obviously Bethesda wouldn't do that, because of the accessibility stuff that makes Oblivion and Skyrim kinda bland.) B) Broken Steel's story is so lackluster. Oh, uhhh, turns out, uhhh, there's more Enclave stuff to blow up, uhhh, over here! And, uhhh, you can't use the giant robot this time! But hey! Wanna blow up a city? Like, what?

1:42:10 This might sound weird, but I actually am okay with them reusing the water chip, the geck, and all of that stuff because I think that if they had strayed and done their own thing it might have been worse. They took a big risk making it 3D, and so they stuck somewhat, and I really mean somewhat, to what was already established. Obviously it would have been better had they made something completely new and amazing, but if they couldn't do that then this is the next best thing. So I guess I am not actually okay with it but I have low expectations for an alternative. F3 or Skyrim is I think the last time Bethesda could have been innovative - their company is now bloated and crushing itself under its own weight. I think under different management its writers could totally make something awesome but this hasn't been realistic in over a decade now. Also other random notes, I really like the video so far. I played Fallout 3 on launch, really enjoyed Broken Steel and Point Lookout, and even enjoyed Anchorage and Zeta. Didn't play the Pitt. It has a special place in my heart, even if nowadays I think it is flawed.

Yo, Lycan, good job with this one. Been loving all of your ES/Fallout coverage so far. Honestly kind of reminds me of the more goofy coverage Salt Factory and Strat-Edgy did for the same games a while back (they're not quite as silly anymore, which is a huge loss). I'm pretty sure that if you just stay the course you'll grow pretty big. A lot of the longform RPG review channels out there have long since lost their "fun factor" in favor of ludicrous amounts of cynicism, so you fill the void they left pretty well. Only criticism I could possibly offer after bingeing all of your stuff is that you probably don't need to skip stuff for fear of spoiling people. Most folk watching videos like this have probably either played the games in question many times or are looking to be spoiled (these types of videos are almost purely spoilers anyways, so a few more doesn't change anything). We also want to hear your thoughts on things, and we're probably missing out on a few good ones for stuff like that. But yeah, nothing you're doing WRONG, but something I figured is worth bringing up regardless. Keep on keepin' on, bud.

At the end of the day, videos are made to entertain, and that's always going to be front and center. As for the criticism, I totally understand! 100%. In fact, it's funny you bring this up because I actually make a comment about this in my upcoming "Fallout: New Vegas" video. I always like to add the warning at the start juuuust in case, but I totally hear you and have taken it to heart. It's something I struggled with in my Oblivion video (when I didn't fully go into guilds). I opened up more in my Skyrim video for guilds, and I personally feel it was for the best. Each video, I learn a little more, and with each one, I feel like I grow and become more comfortable in my "abilities." I'm super duper thankful you gave me the feedback, especially since you were totally polite about it, haha. I always struggle, second guess, and wonder what it is people might like, so thanks for this. I will forever keep on, keeping on! Thanks again! Stay awesome, pal! You really made my day! P.S. Sorry for the super long reply haha.

Yes, the local yokels in Point Lookout are extremely dangerous. On my first playthrough of Fallout 3 way back in like 2010, I had the Ultimate Guide to Fallout 3 GOTY Edition that covered the full game and all DLC's. It had full maps, quests, equipment and enemy stats, and it listed that the swampfolk get a *bonus +80 damage* toward the player, universally. I remember hating this DLC for the difficulty for quite some time since the swampfolk would regularly kill me in 1-2 hits most of the time due to that massive damage bonus. I think I did it before The Pitt and Mothership Zeta though so my equipment wasn't exactly top-tier either. It was fighting them that got me to really appreciate the Sneak skill and Stealth criticals, because I damn well needed them.

as i wrote on your fallout 2 video: this video is special for me. It was the second game for the PS3 for me (the first one was Eye of Judgement) and my boyfriend when he first visited me also played it a bit. I didn't think he would like it but he totally did and while visiting me (we had a kinda long distance relationship and only saw each other at the weekend) i really had to pull him away from the PS3 xD he got it on PC soon afterwards. It also was the first game that i ever did pay DLC for (Broken steel) :-) and i'm so a fan for the series that i now even have the offical Tabletop RPG (2D20 system) for Fallout and plannign to play it soon with my friends.

@@LycaniteTV gameplay wise it's fun and easy to understand :) combat feels a little bit weird though the first time playing. Sadly it's Setting is more Fallout 4 while 3 and New Vegas are mentioned (some regions and plots... as well as the surivors Handbook) aah also another fun side note: i never actually did wander the metro stations in my first playthrough. I don't know how but i never was inside Galaxy News Radio since i didn't quite get the subway system and was frustated by it quite soon so i didn't enter DC at all. I don't know how i got back on track with the story though. On my second playthrough (a while back) i did wander DC... and i hated it xD Regarding the original Ending: it was a big moment... it was just destroyed that Fawkes was there who COULD easily go in. If Fawkes didn't exist in this scene that wouldn't make it that silly (or any Robot) That killed the logic. BUT in general the "the player sacrifices himself" that was awesome. But you do know that Fallout 2 and Fallout 3 are ... taking place on each side of America? Fallout 2 is in the west coast and Fallout 3 on the east. Just because you hit ONE small Enclave outpost on the West Coast the enclave isn't gone. Also due to the lack of communication... i don't think many info was know at all about what happend "over there" so for me both the Evclave and the Brotherhood from both coasts are "kinda different" i have to double check but i think even in the TTRPG it's mentioned that the Brotherhood isn't as united as they want to be so every "chapter" is kinda different. DLC Operation Ancorage: there is a VEEEERY short NPC dialog (which isn't triggert often thanks to bugs even with patches) were you hear one of the Brotherhood members saying that this is wrong and that this is against the code or so before you enter the vault full of weapons and stuff and then a discussion before the shooting beginns. I also didn't get that small interaction the first time.

almost assuredly unrelated to anything talked about IN this vid, but using the console to free cam or force third person view during the into sequence is funny as hell cuz you're just a tiny dude running around like stuart little to have the camera low to the ground to give the illusion of crawling on the floor as a baby or being a kid having a birthday party. though the mental image of a kid getting bullied while they look like just a normal adult scaled down feels like an Adult Swim comedy skit in between shows

Fallout 3 is great, just a shame that FNV fanboys (Not enjoyers) have to keep attacking it for the most stupid of reason. Hell this fanbase made me hate F3 and FNV, and these where games whenever I played one, I had to immediately play the other. To bad the fanbase is pure grade A cancer.

So the outcasts attack you because there's one guy that's like "But we cant let in this wastelander in our base to poke around" he just wants to have you killed and take your pipboy. The quest works better in tale of two wastelands. But yeah when you go in there they have some dialog outside the door and when you go in he gets all pissed off and starts shooting at you with the rest of the outcasts loyal to him. There should be like 2 or 3 survivors. Seems like your f3 anchorage dlc was a little more buggy than usual. I think in ttw you can convince them not to attack you but I can't remember.
