I made the mistake of downloading every single line in the description and wondered why the script extender didn't work. I had to re-download the first list, like an idiot. lol It wouldn't have been that big a deal if I had simply copied the files instead of moving them and deleting the empty folders like the clean nut I am.

Wanted to hurt myself by modding fo4 again and noticed that that the commands to download the automatron and wasteland workshop threw up errors and apparently steam just Decided I didn't own the dlc anymore so thank you todd and steam very cool

Is you anti virus possibly messing with the file? I tried to search for your issue and this seems to be a common issue but I couldnt find a definitive fix for it. @@circuitscore Nah, he probably didn't have enough space on the C Drive. The download stops in this case incomplete. Copying incomplete files in root game folder will then throw that error.

I've followed the steps to the best of my knowledge, and I am still unable to launch the game. The error code I have is "The procedure entry point SteamUser could not be located in the dynamic library C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout4.exe". Also in the command window it says "Couldn't inject DLL". My internet sucks majorly so I would prefer not to try this again a second time, what could the issue possibly be?
Important: Had the same crash problem after downgrading, like some people here.... i just removed all .ba2 files with cc, but there are also some .esm files with cc that needs to be removed! After that everything worked perfectly!
Perfect video and explained very well! I downloaded everything following your video, used the F4SE you linked and deleted the cc files, but when I launch the game it freezes at the "press any key" screen as soon as I press any key. I've had no success trying to fix it... The next gen update works of course but wheres the fun in that? Any ideas what to try next?
@@circuitscore I did, I ended up digging through my backups to find a pre-nextgen copy and was able to clean out the mods from there so I had a clean copy of pre-next gen. Really not sure why your method didn't work 100% but I still appreciate your guide!
Marry me! What tripped me up is the top download is 7.2 f4se and errors out as the wrong version. I tried both but the creation club crap was the problem. Many thanks

hello, can anyone help? i was downloading the depots, and i waited, and left my pc running for a day, and came back, only 5 of them copleted. anyone know why? it aint my connection, its still stable, so i dont know why it aint completing.
You will have to excuse the idiocy of this question for I am latterly trying to this for the very first time right this minute. When you say "root directory" which exact file are referring to? I understand root directory could be where the Fallout 4 game is steam/steamapps/common/fallout4. With the Creation Club and HD textures deploy lines, are these also added to the root directory as well? Probably a redundant question but I had to ask since I'm there. How did you copy past in console, this I'm unable to do so having to do this manually? download_depot 1946160 1946161 6928748513006443409 download_depot 1946160 1946162 3951536123944501689 These come up as missing license, so console will not download.
No worries so the root directory is just the first folder where fallout is located. Copy the files exactly how they are from each depot folder to the base fallout folder or root and copy and replace. To copy and paste in the console I used the windows shortcut copy CTL C and paste CTL V The creation kit and hd textures are optional and will only work if you have installed them on steam at some point prior. If you have not officially installed them from steam it will say there missing license when trying to download them from the command. Finally I apologize but I have not personally used the creation kit or HD Textures from steam so not 100% sure where to put these files as I currently use Vivid All In One off Nexus mods for my textures. Only reason I posted them here is because I had a request in the comments for those depot commands.
I will be doing a fresh install of Fallout4 1.10.984, launching it ounce to have all files activated and then do the down grader as per your video. Tried a down grader patch from Vortex with all required downloads and game wouldn't launch, plus comments are locked so no help there. If it/should work, do I just download mods through Vortex, get load order, deploy, then launch through Vortex. Or do I need to use the Fallout4Launcher.exe?. If this sounds correct or not fell free to correct me.
Disregard the last question, so the loader.exe is used to launch the game got it. how long do you have to wait for the last line ExecCommandLine to come up. I have all the rest complete.
Final and last question/s. Got the game downgraded thanks to you help which is much appreciated. I did try and start the game but like you said it crashed so I went back in and took out the CC files and was able to launch the game. Game version is 163.0. I have Creation Club content that is available in game version 984.0. Since I did this all from a fresh install and did not go any farther than the main title screen of the game. What steps are needed to be done in order to be able to use Creation Club content.? I did like you mentioned and save the CC files separately, so I remember to do that.
Noob question. I was using NMM(Vortex) to launch the game with mods. Now since the new fallout4_loader executable is their, does that make the NMM just the middle man to get the mods so they can run in game from just the fallout4_loader, or can the game also be launched through NMM having the correct F4SE installed in the manager? Any recommended mods I should get off the Nexus site i.e. address library etc. now that I've done the downgrade?
I would make sure to replace the script extender files with the link in the description of this video as this version is for 1.10.163. Or the game might not run.
Make sure all of the download depots confirm they have downloaded. I didn't show it in the video to keep it short but some of them can take awhile as its essentially just redownloading an older version of the game.
Hey, man, this was incredibly useful. However, an issue occurred. When I attempt to launch it from the F4SE loader, it says the F4SE version is incompatible with version 1.10.163. I made sure it was the right version of F4SE, though, through Nexus's manual file download. If you have any ideas or fixes, please respond. Other than that, thanks a ton.
Those last 3 depot commands include DLCs that came with the GOTY edition. If you dont have that DLC it will mention license missing. Try to downgrade without those files. It should still work.

Sounds like you have a F4SE that is for a later version of the game. Download the F4SE from the link I provided in the description and replace the files. Hopefully that works.
@circuitscore figured it out. I was just downgrading the fallout4.exe. you have to downgrade the steamapi_64.dll as well. Did that and now it's working... However...some mods are causing infinite loading screen. I'm going through my mods 1 by frikking 1...to identify which one

@@circuitscore That's true. But you can use the CC content from the NG build with the older 163 build, you just need a mod to help with that. That way you get to enjoy all the CC content in the old build. I have just done that.
Great question. So its not ideal but the way to do it is uninstall Steam on your C drive and install Steam on your preferred drive and the depots files will download to whatever drive you have steam installed on.

Uncheck the read only box within the properties of the appmanifest file if you disabled updates and then update the game in Steam. Be aware there was a new patch that just released yesterday so your mod might not be update for that version but rather the version before it.
You have to own the game to download the depot files or else anyone could just download game from Steam without buying them. I cant imagine it will be very hard to find version 1.10.163 since its the most popular version for modding.

FALLOUT 4 ON PC - I'm confused about the latest new gen 4k uhd update and how mods work. I went to the FITGIRL website and downloaded THE FULL game with the current latest new gen patch version - v.1.10.40 of the fallout 4 game torrent. From what i can understand mods that use the Fallout 4 Script Editor DON'T work and aren't compatible with the new gen latest patch. However the script editor itself is being updated and upgraded...BUT... unless the authors go back and update THE MODS to work with the latest new Fallout 4 script editor.... the mods will NEVER work with any of latest patches of the game. So Where CAN I download an old GAME OF THE YEAR version 1.10.163 (with HIGH TEXTURES pack) of fallout 4 that I will NEVER patch to any latest game versions.... and thus be GUARANTEED to work with all nexus mods? P.s. ALSO if say i find NEW new or OLD MODS that get updated to work with the latest version of FALLOUT 4 script extender - can I AND WILL i still be able to run them with the old version - say 1.10.163- of the game?

I cant tell you exactly where to find a copy of 1.10.163 by other means and methods but I cant imagine it would be hard to find. Its the most popular version for modding. Is there not an older FitGirl download? The GOTY edition is only $8.59 right now on Fanatical for another 9 Hours. You could get a legit copy and then downgrade with the guide.
@therealovidox youd have to pray you can even get the earlier versions of the mods too, some devs like the unofficial patch dev delete the old versions immediately every update
@@circuitscore yeah i managed to get an older version from fitgirl and then update it to the LAST of the pre next gen. Now i just gotta pull my finger out and get the nexus monthly membership and i think I'll just go for the STORYWEALTH compilation and be done with the mods and hopefully it week last me until grand theft auto 6... which hopefully will last me until the next skyrim... which hopefully will last me until fallout 5... and hopefully I'll live long enough to play them all. In the description of the video there's a archive link to the F4SE version that is compatible with 1.10.163. For some reason the author removed this version from the main download page. Game should boot using this version.

If your save is using the new version of Fallout then the files aren't compatible any longer. Usually, you might need to revert onto a older savefile prior to the last update or start a new save :S
Sounds like newer saves are not compatible with older versions. However I cannot confirm this as I never saved my game on the updated version. Try to load an older save file and see if that works. If you dont have an older save file you might need to start fresh.

Sometimes the depot commands fail if you do not have enough space on your drive even if it seems like you have enough people have reported that clearing some data allowed the depot file to download successfully. Additionally if you do not own one of the DLC downloads it will fail as well.

I have found one problem with this. After going through your FANTASTIC tutorial, if I use the f4se loader, it will not launch my game. It tells me I need to upgrade my game. However, if I load the game through the normal fo4 launcher, it now tells me I have the downgraded version and loads with now problem. This is the tutorial EVERYONE should watch. If you are planning to load fallout london, it is based on the .163 version. I would just like to say, you are a hero for this video CircuitScore

This game has been my Prozac to the real world. Coming up on 5000 hrs. of game play. Bethesda can lick my left n-t for its updates. The modding community has kept this game alive for longer than the base game could ever had hoped for. Thank you!! your fix worked perfect.
Its a great game with mods! Yeah there really was no reason for them to update the PC version of the game. The increase of FPS on console was nice but thats about it. Glad it worked!
When I start the game with the "fse_loader" (it doesn't have the exe for some reason), the game starts but its just a black screen with the "press any buttoN" green text at the bottom. I used the right version of the script extender so I'm unsure what's causing the issue
I created this video before F4SE was updated for the latest version. Try to Redownload the F4SE I linked in the description of this video and see if it will launch.
Thanks CircuitScore. I followed your instructions and have successfully screwed my copy of Fallout 4 to the point where I have to delete it and re-install it! What the hell is a root directory!?
The root directory is the main folder of the game that houses the rest of the files and sub folders. When copying the files make sure you are not inside any sub folders such as the Data directory when copying the files. Hope this fixes your issue.
I found the depot files for 1.10.980 from a Reddit user. I posted them in the description. Make sure to back up your game before proceeding as I have not tested these personally since I am running 1.10.163.
You're a champion! I've downgraded Steam games before but this time I had already downloaded the old depots, overwrote the new version with them, set the .acf to read only and was still getting a CTD on launch. None of the other tutorials I found said that you had to delete the CCC to stop the crashing and it looks like that's exactly what I was missing. Thank you so much!

hey I'm experiencing a problem with my booting of the game it's saying "REL/IDD8.h(42) not found" and it's apparently being caused by "Bakawaitanywhere.dll" do you know how to help? or have i somehow messed up so badly that i have to start again? edit the issue still persists even after uninstalling "BakaWaitAnywhere"

@circuitscore I still failed to get it right. But the part where you speed through the file copying is what I screwed up on. I think you have a different version of windows. My copy file mechanic does not look the same. And getting the game launcher to copy was really difficult.
@circuitscore It does not at all look the same on my PC for some reason. I did delete the whole FO4 file(s) and start over with a clean install. It looks like if I stick to mods that you can download from the game options for mods and all is working fine. That does limit my mod options. If it starts to crash again I will update this comment in case anyone else is having the same issue.

Make sure to download the Script extender from the link in the description of the video. For some reason the author archived this download for version 1.10.163

Thank you so much for the tutorial. I followed it and then went to add the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch you link in the description, but you can't use the UFO4P without the Creation Club content that we have to delete in order to downgrade. Is there another bugfix mod that you recommend?
Question: If I had begun this process post update and downloaded the most recent of all the mods, including the ones that had updated for the next-gen compatibility does that mean they won't work with a downgrade and I need to go back to older versions of the mod in order for this downgrade process to work? I'm not even sure this makes sense, this all happened on one of my first attempts at modding my game. I was following The Midnight Ride guide and this has turned into an absolute nightmare. Maybe I should just wait for the F4SE to be updated and keep all my updates? That seems to be what causes my game to crash. It doesn't recognize F4se being in my root folder even though it is.
Was the guide for 1.10.163 versions of the mods or for a higher version? If you are using a mod manager and have the original zip files you can drag and drop them into your game profile and reinstall all of your mods if its a fresh install. If the mods are already present then this downgrade process should still work. Just replace the files from the depot download and run your mod manager and the mods should all work as long as your have the correct F4SE for 1.10.163 and the mods are compatible. I would however HIGHLY recommend backing up your game directory just in case anything goes wrong you have a point to restore to.

Agreed. Honestly I'm sure a lot of them don't even play Fallout 4 anymore and are on to new games such as Cyberpunk. What really doesn't make sense is mod authors intentionally hiding those patch files. Luckily for us Nexus archives all files and I have direct links in the description for the 1.10.163 patch. Thank you for bringing that to my attention though. Ill look into the HD Textures and Creation Kit depot. Maybe Bethesda removed them from the steam server.
*IMPORTANT:* If you are trying to install Fallout London or similar mods, set your files to "Read Only" AFTER you install the mod. Setting them to read only before will cause the mod to be denied.
Im not sure I had to do this when I installed Fallout London. Just be careful to not accidently update your game since the steam DRM kicks in when launching Fallout.
Thanks for this was going to use the downgrader from nexus but figured I'd try this instead. The next gen update is a joke. Haven't really noticed any improvements and the workshop sucks. It's unbearable having to wait for over a minute for the workshop to load. Faster workshop mod is broken and not sure if it will get updated. The new updated version of the Unofficial Fallout Patch causes massive stuttering had to delete that stuttering was gone. Transfer settlements is supposedly getting a new update but who knows when that will be. Might as well just revert back to save the headaches.
100% agreed! None of the updates they added to the game are worth the headache of broken mods and things not working. I'm just going to permanently keep mine on 1.10.163.

No problem! Yeah I also have a fresh backup just in case that I can transfer between computers. I need to check out Luxors HD textures. That was the next thing I was going to do is make a list of some solid visual enhancements for the game.
