They line seriously confuses me. Like… what, they think Nick is programmed to do what he does and think what he does? It’s far too erratic and human to make sense. I’d have loved if there was at least one moment where Nick could chime in on a conversation about synths to bring up how runaways are identical to humans in more or less all ways.

Both Lyons and Maxson are shit. Even by West Coast standards, you ask me. Outcast 4 lyfe "Abominations" shouldn't be a concern. It shouldn't matter if there's supermutants here or there. The Brotherhood should be grabbing tech, not concerning themselves with what is or isn't an affront to God. Though, I guess they'd be after Synths a bit due to the advanced tech. But that's technically outside their view, given that they're typically after pre-war stuff. Don't know how new tech fits in. That said, though, I still dislike at least Fallout NV's Brotherhood of Steel. Fallout Tactics had the best Brotherhood. Though, with them, it was more about survival than anything else. Having been basically sent on a suicide mission, and all that. Still, hunted tech, and recruited folk. You gotta recruit, or you will stagnate and eventually get overrun like the boys out in NV did. They did all right for a ragtag group of kicked-out-on-a-suicide-mission crash survivors. Probably not cannon, though. Outcasts I also like. They're cold, yeah, but they'll let you in if you prove your worth. Maybe not "officially" as a fellow knight, but then, they're not exactly that either. In any case, they let you in their base and let you do whatever, if you help them out enough.

They hated ghouls too. I'm sure they would've hated synths...

You know the biggest difference between the Lyons' family and the Maxsons? The Lyons cared more about strangers than the Maxson did. Roger Maxson saw what was wrong with the US Govt and decided to desert them because of the inhumane experiments going on at Mariposa. He gathered close friends and family knowing the US would use them as examples/leverage, and happened to have all of them in the bunker when the bombs fell. That's where most of the good of the BoS ends, as when they took the mission to "preserve technology" they forgot what technology and the military was originally meant for: protecting the people. True both had gone far off the path, but simply sticking to a mission wasn't enough. It wasn't the BoS that stopped The Master, or blew up the Encalve's Poseidon oil rig, it was a single person and their descendant. Both had nothing to their name before, and became legend to the NCR and BoS. The BoS only "saved the wasteland" after a Lone Wanderer told them it was now or never, and that was under Lyons' leadership. Before then, you were only worth talking to if you were helpful to the mission, and the Outcasts while trying to complete their mission actually killed a Gary clone (that didn't show any signs of aggression) by sawing his arm off. The most redeemable section of the BoS was under Lyons, and the BoS before didn't have the slightest bit of altruism.

The institute's tech should've probably been salvaged, since there's nothing wrong with being able to grow radiation free food and what not. But in general brotherhood are still the good guys, they help guard caravans with their vertibirds, and regularly clear out ghouls, mutants and etc.
