we would have to do a return match starting with the explosive to be sure of the result and all three on a new server. because it's really a shame that the doubt is there
I have all three. The q2525 preforms better on private servers. The q50c25 preforms better on public servers due to latency, the ffr fires too quickly for the server to register all the hits. The hit tracking on the qe25 makes it really nice for daily driving, it does have a heavy stager effect when fired in close proximity which is obnoxious.
You know. I was kind of expecting these results. I've been running into the same observations using a QE15. Either way. For me it's QE all day every day. I use it as both a daily and boss weapon. I own both a QE15 and a Q50C with a crap third star. Just the instant projectile travel time wins for me. It feels so much better. But that's completely personal. Yeah somethings going on with Explosive. I noticed it with my TSE minigun, enemies, health, actually rubber band and go back up or will get enemy to near dead and and die 1 or 2 seconds after not firing.
Im surprised the crit didn’t win iv got all 3 of them railways and with buffs I think crit comes out on top I find ffr doesn’t alway work on servers because just to fast for it to register on my testing maybe I’m wrong can never question the (turtle) tho ! I think all these guns are few and far between I was obsessed with the perfect 3rd star aswell managed to get them but with the right build I come to realise it doesn’t matter Great video as always Angry Turtle 🐢 👍👍
The buffs apply to all variants, not just 50c, lol. FFR is the only multiplicative damage bonus, so it obviously has the highest dps, which is what matters most against bosses.
Thanks for this, I kind of guessed FFR will be the top boss killer, it always has been for a while and only downside is the ammo it chews through. My testing also shows the same result on bosses that FFR > 50CR.
Facts, it's always been the 'boss killer' prefix, only the uniformed or biased will say otherwise. Simple logic will dictate that FFR always beats E and 50c for dps.
Wish someone would test these weapons in a public session (with spectator players) who shoot anything but the test target to get practical results. I also think that even if lag makes hits not to register, the lost hits would not be that many and DPS can still be higher than others.
thanks for the vid again! you could try comparing AA/BFFR25v Holy Fires against AA/BFFR25v Enclave Flamers next. Or maybe the 50c variants. Holy fires are basically long ranged EPRs so it'd be interesting. another idea is exploring VATs-based auto melee builds. always wondered if they are even viable because auto melees attack very quickly and there's huge potential for them to top DPS charts.
The problem with that is they don't target the head/weak spot. And not running vats allows you to choose different luck perks. You also don't really need help hitting the target in melee. I guess it's worth testing, but I don't think the DPS would be higher. Hitting Earle in the head is double damage every time. Getting a crit, even on every other hit isn't remotely close to that. Yeah after thinking about it. There's no way VATS melee would have higher DPS than going for the weak spot.

ever since the legacy removal i have been preaching that this is the new meta/best weapon in the game. Q/50 CRIT/25 LESS VATS for bosses, Q/E, 50 VAT HIT, FFR/ 90RW, 25 LESS VATS, 15 RELOAD SPEED for daily usage 👍
It has been. Even when I was mass trading legacies, people have been trading Q50c25 and Q2525 fixer/railway for a lot. They used to use B50c25 or B50c15c dragon when you could bug the ammo.
I have a couple of railway rifles but the main two i think are very good that I have are 1:Instigating 50%crit/15%vats crit charge 2:Quad 50% Hit target in vats/15% reload speed
Especially with gun fu. If you can at least 1 thing (even a grenade) you will absolutely melt away the health. Forget it if you killed over 4 mobs. The health is nothing then
Whenever I used my +weap speed fixer, it server seemed to not register all the hits, so I wonder if it demonstrates the same issue as expl. round. Also, how are you so tanky? :)
Not sure why you got the server error when testing explosive ammo; it usually happens when I use the fire rate. I tested the same three guns before, without the Sneak perk and didn't have AP cost on them. Personally, explosive ammo is better for boss fights, while the fire rate can eliminate other enemies type faster if there aren't too many of them.
I am surprised by the results and i do think that there is a few points you can see the damage from the explosive railway being ignored which i have noticed as an issue on live servers as well with my explosive commando weapons. i did roll a QFFR15crit charge the other day and threw in on my bloodied commando character and its definitely a pretty OP weapon

"It needs nearly no AP..." with the same Modifications they all need 7 AP, 2 AP if it has "-25% AP cost" However: how the character is set up plays an important role: for a full health build the -explosive effect will generate more crits- (edit: I was wrong, plz read below) and enhance dps. So the best choice depend on personal preferences, but any Quad Railway Rifle seem to do a lot of damage anyway :)

@@slippingsnake it's only what i saw from and the general consensus, but the people in his discord helped me out since going 33 luck allows you to get a crit every two shots, with critial savy of course
@@thundercookie1741 you are right! explosive (and two-shot) do not fill the critical meter, I was testing with Revolvers: Luck 15 needs 4 hits, Luck 20 needs 3 hits to fill the crit-meter. On some Occassion the critical meter stayed ~30% but wouild not progress with the next shot, so maybe a visual glicht due to server lag... Guess I have to change some of my equipment :)
I know quad is king, i just can't give up on my vampire faster fire rate with 250dr on reload. Nothing can kill me as long as I have spikes even though I have very few defensive cards equipped.

It was clear. Thank you for opening eyes of 50c and E fanatics. Same goes to any other boss killer weapon. HOWEVER, in public servers 50c shots would register better and dps would be higher. ALSO +15reload is the only desirable 3rd star, others do not matter, it already costs almost zero ap and everybody swims in repair kits
The quad50crit-25AP railway has been really good. It costs 2 AP to use so it's basically nothing with all the buffs lol. I haven't tried this build but will now. Been using your int build and it still works really good. Definitely gonna try to get that quad25speed25reload. Also I usually just swap out good with salt with bloody mess or four leaf clover right when the boss starts. Since it only takes a minute or so you're really not losing the condition on your food.
Hi, I have a suggestion for an update video on the railway rifle. I am new to the game (playing for roughly two months now). After watching this video I crafted 1*legendary mods on a railway rifle to get a quad. I only rolled 1* because as a new player I didn´t have that much legendary modules. I got the quad mod after nearly 20 rolls and this gun is absolutely amazing. If you deliberately choose to roll only the first star, this gun is "affordable" even for new (Level 50) players with few legendary modules. Now my suggestion: It would be nice to know, how a mere 1* Quad Railway Rifle will compare to those in this video.
I was started using a Quad Railway over 4 years ago way before it was the flavor of the month. Now i have 15 Railways or so with the Full Auto Quad Explosives being my favorites ! As always thank you A.T for the tests & videos ✌️🙂
I rolled Armor Penetration, Crit Dmg, and +VATs Crit on my current go to rifle, I know it isn't quad, but 1 shot crit Lv 100 Super Mutants does NOT get old at all.
I think the explosive quad should be given another chance, on a different server. Since the last update, there are some really strange things going on...
Can confirm damage drop issues even on live. QE RR has been my weapon for ages, I've seen mobs take ten shots without health budging an inch enough that it doesn't annoy me anymore.
Please do the single fire test! I want vindication for running a stealth rifleman all these years, refusing to chase the meta with heavy weapons/commando. I assume you might do something like dragon for the follow up boss test you mentioned, but please also test gauss rifle. It was interesting seeing how server lag indirectly nerfs the QE railway. Tbh, I've noticed the same thing with the Q gauss I have and my AAE fixer to a lesser extent. Thanks for all the great content.
Are you holding down the trigger button or rapidly tapping it? I have an identical perk build with 34 luck and the VATS critical beeps are not nearly as fast for me as they are for you. I’m holding down space bar full time in VATS and have experimented with holding down the trigger vs tapping, but either way I am not doing anywhere close to the amount of damage you’re doing with my Q / E / DUR railway. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I have all theses variants and my fav by far is quad ex less vats cost. It costs 1ap per shot , lol Also, you can get big dmg increase from demolition expert!
I have a couple of QE railroads and one QFFR. The issue I have is the game doesn't register damage until the 20th shot most of the time. I'm not sure if it's because it does too much damage or damage too fast, but I never have issues with other guns.
@@spark556 depends on build, I'm not trying to always have a bunch of crit skills all the time. Either way the thing still shreds better than most anything
@TheSealsMen PS5 has no problems with hit registration. Also, think logically about this. If you're in an event that's packed with so many players and projectiles that it's enough to lag the server, does it even matter how much damage you individually do if there's 20+ players destroying a boss? It might die 5 seconds faster.
Huh. Surprised. I would have thought the Explosive one would come out tops since the explosive 'splash' damage ignores the 40% DR of bosses, so the splash, though small, would still be true damage. Would it be possible the Endangerol syringer have affected the explosive damage? That being said, I've noticed this same situation with Fixers. My AAE Fixer will often have a noticeably longer TTK than my AAFFR Fixer, even though it is doing more damage if you count the explosive damage. Something is not registering properly.
DEAR TURTLE: All explosive weapons sucks against Wendigo Colossus. Make the test with a hand made explosive and other non explosive. Been there, done that.
Angry Turtle, I have a request for you. Can you try the Desintegrator and Crit Savy 3 with 33 luck? Some people said it's a visual bug. Looks like it doesn't register crit dmg.
Makes me want to work on my Railway Rifle character more... but I finished the season last week so I'm on a break until the next one, hopefully it's not nerfed by then haha. Thanks for testing!
It will be there is wayyyyyyy to much videos like this one and talk about it...1000% it will be nerfed and it pisses me off because it's my favorite weapon and build setup
People are going to be complaining to you that they couldn't loot enough screws! A little jelly by the damage, would be super useful to make lowbie lives easier as Earle can be an expensive one to fight.
I had bet on the ffr but obviously the test is flawed, this still gives rise to doubt. It would also have been good to compare the evolution of the bars side by side sum to the usual to see the evolution of the damage caused on the bar in real time for each. but thank you for this video

I’m on Xbox series X with good internet, farm Earle daily in my private server. I have all three quad railway kings with less vats,the difference is so minimal between you don’t even notice it not even in public lobbies. It’s all preference for me do I want to save ammo then its crit. If I want to waste ammo then it’s weapon speed. Finally if I want to kick Earle’s butt and all his spawns it’s explosive 🧨
Hey Turtle I found you after starting my fallout 76 journey not too long ago and I love your videos. I'm curious about what legendary armor you use for a bloodied build? I'm currently a heavy gunner but I want to switch build. I want to use power armor with a build like this if its possible so I want to know what legendary stars to look for. If not power armor then what normal armor to look for. If you or the turtles can help me out that would be wonderful.

What’s the trick so that when you use vats it always aim on the head? Seems like rng for me. Sometimes it’s a headshot right away. Most of the time it’s all torso..
on paper it should be but in the reality, game doesn't register a lot of hits from it because it already shoots super fast so it lags no matter what.@@astroeclipse5392
To my knowledge faster fire rate cant be boosted by anything else(maybe speed demon), explosive can be boosted by a perk card and magazine only?, and crit damage is boosted by pretty much everything, perks, special stats, magazines, bobbleheads, food, drink, chems.... It really should be the crit damage version that wins, if you feel like using every buff available.
I’ve been wondering. (Seems so hard to test appropriately). I play full health crit build and I’m setup to crit every other shot (23luck/crit fill/luck perks). I feel like the railway sometimes just don’t register any crits or if it does it’s once every 3-4 shots. Is it too fast for them to apply. Wondering if I Should go 25 less vats at this point….
dont u need 24 luck minimum for crit every other hit with plus 15 critical fill for 3rd star on ur weapon for every other shot to be a crit? otherwise u need 33 agil, 34 tech but with all the right gear its like 33.5 or somethin the way its calculated and rounds up to 34.
33 luck is what turtle has told everyone. I run at 34 and even then I sometimes don't get it all the time, sometimes it will be every third shot. Seems server speed and other variables might effect this. I only notice it during boss fights and ofcourse they tend to be the worst time for servers.
All three arts were with 10 seconds of each other on a high HP boss fight … negligible difference so for most folks, any of these rolls would be awesome … and for everyday use, all three murder regular mobs in nanoseconds so their isn’t a meaningful difference …

Needed something to replace my legacy TS EXP FFR PRIME GP. :( I remember with explosive back in the past aiming at torso or legs deals more explosive damage? You think there would have been more exp damage if VATs to the torso or legs in your testing with the EXP Railway rifle against Earl?
I think the fixer beats railway rifle on bosses. You can sneak better with a silencer and with anti armor you get better armor pen. You can use ultracite bullets if you want also for more damage, at least agains the SBQ.
