Just finished the first episode of this show and by 40 minutes in I paused and just sat and realized “this is deadass the most faithful video game adaptation ever put to screen”
Ehh not really. The last of us had that weird hive mind thing and Joel is far, far weaker than the game. Not to mention the time frame is completely different. This is definitely more faithful.@@calestnightstalker9078
I also like that they made her capable, but not this overpowered Mary-Sue or attempting to fulfill some type of LGBTQ+ agenda. (Not that I have a problem with that, it just makes bad entrainment)
@angelus823 it's also the knew clique. It overused now, and it doesn't make the movie any better. Typically, when movies push a feminist/LGBTQ+ agenda, it's off-putting, or just there to check a box. And they quite often don't do well at the box office as a result.
Just as an aside, it was driving me crazy that the actress playing Betty was so familiar, until it finally clicked that she also played Deadpool's blind roommate Blind Al, lol. Just wasn't used to actually seeing her eyes, apparently.
Her name is Leslie Uggams, she’s 80 and has been an active artist (actor, musician, tv host) for 74 years! She was also in the Oscar winning film American Fiction along with many other things over the years
Whats funny is the squire in the show holds a huge military bag full of ammo and weapons. Haha just like in the game where you make your companion hold all your loot.
@@leonrussell9607sorry what? That's not at all the case in nv or 4. Not played 3 in a long time, so I can't remember what their like in that, or the first 2.
I was a production assistant on west world, RIP. And I remember when Jonathan didn’t come back for season 4 bc he was working on this. Which must show how much he was passionate about this project over his already well-known established series.
I noticed the sound score for ep1 sounds very similar to Westworld s3 and 4 with that deep trumpet like sound. I just bought Westworld s4 on Blu-ray. I have to say it was a major step up from season 3. Such a shame it was cancelled, it really was a hidden gem.
ella purnell who plays lucy is such a star, and im so glad she's getting her flowers for what should be her breakout role here. she was great in yellowjackets, miss peregrines home for peculiar children and as the voice of jinx in arcane !! wishing her the best
I also love how all the characters make the worst fucking decisions possible and still manage to win through because they all have 10 luck. Its like they are players purposefully choosing the most idiotic dialogue choices for shits and giggles and because they know Bethesda's writing got they backs lmao
When Maximums and Dane are talking in the tent about who put the razor in the boot you can hear Maximums talk trait go up. And Lucy's dad The Overseer was the original Paul Atreides.
Not only was Kyle MacLachlan the original Paul in David Lynch's Dune, he was also Special Agent Dale Cooper in Lynch's Twin Peaks TV show (and starred in Lynch's Blue Velvet movie as well).
I never played the game. But I noticed there was something wrong with the raiders right away they just weren't as clean as the rest of everybody else , they had no manners. He was covered in scars it just felt like something was off.😊
I think my favorite bit is probably Lucy's introduction. She literally tells you what her stats and skills are like its character generation, and throughout the series she isnt a good shot but shes not bad at melee and hand to hand lol.
Among all recent video game adaptations, this is the best I've seen. The directing is great, the cgi holds up, the actors are well casted and it has a good storyline but most importantly the atmosphere of the games is there. Walton Goggins have played a lot of different roles, but he really shines in this one.
@@madrid_seui mean they dont experiment on people or make them slaves and have no interest in economic control. Just like to horde tech and weapons because they want to be the strongest faction. The brothers are indoctrinated that their mission is for the good of humanity. Also, they hate the enclave (which is the worse and most inhumane faction).
The woman playing Lucy is Ella Purnell, she was the voice actress for Jynx in Arcane. Apparently, she just makes any video game adaptation she touches turn to gold.
They are nailing it so far. You can really feel the dystopian atmosphere, and Walton Goggins is fantastic as the Ghoul. That impressive make up is all practical too. I can't wait for more.
I hope the rest of the show is the same dark tone (not lighting, but just harsh, wasteland reality) as the Walton Goggins scene. That was one of the best character introductions I've seen in a show. The "I do this shit for the love of the game." and then just chopping them down was so fun.
I quite literally just finished the first episode. Talk about a lore dump lol. It felt like every single second of this first episode was strictly focused on building the world and the lore. There’s slight character development but overall it felt like this episode really wanted to establish where we are at, introduce our three main leads and getting you invested in it all. That beginning scene… WOW!!😳
Lucy’s storyline reminds me how I played Fallout 3 ( my first Fallout ). My Lone Wanderer was a 19 year old girl looking for her father in the Capital Wasteland.
TV is the medium that video games need to be adapted into because The Last of Us was masterclass, and Fallout is the freaking same!! Sweet baby J we have another phenomenal video game adaptation!
Yeah, movies are definitely not the way to go. (Depends the property) but with games like fallout that have tons of lore, or last of us that is like a 40 hour long game. A 2-3 hour movie isn’t enough to explore the breadth of ideas games go for
Just watched the full thing, and wow.... This is one of the best shows ive seen in the past few years, they 100% nailed it, and it ends making you want a season 2.
Ella Purnell does a such good job at Lucy here. I always think she’s a great chameleon, going from Yellowjackets to voicing Jinx in Arcane, to this. But the rest of the cast does a good job too. This just seems to be mostly Lucy’s episode.
3:59 so sorry I keep having to come back to the first episode, but I thought I finished making comments. I wanted to say how an awesome job. The little girl did the daughter when the bomb went off and she put her thumb up and when Walter came out with the cake, the look of horror on her face when she asked him is it my thumb or your thumb in order to gauge the cloud was heartbreaking
6:21 She put points on Repair, Science, Speech, Melee, and Small Guns lol 4:39 Jumping in the pool probably wouldn't help. It would be vaporized if they were close enough.
@@whendarknessfalls6969 Depends on the yield of those bombs and some of the blasts were closer as shown in the scene. Who knows how many more were dropped, impractical as that may be.
This show is already everything I wanted even after one ep. Every single drop of dystopia psychofreude you can cram on a limp biscuit. Nom nom nom nom.
Amazon knocked this one out of the friggin’ park! A spot-on adaptation that also has that Nolan & Joy Westworld feel. Doesn’t get much better than this. And Walton Goggins is incredible.
The Fallout team and Amazon Prime video have nailed it. With the world and lore in tack, many a Fallout fan would be impressed. But... Not only have they done that, each episode is a minimum of 50 minutes, AND ... They released the entire season, because ... you can choose the way I want to enjoy watching TV.
Just going off of the first episode, it feels like the long lost script to a Fallout game that was never released. They definitely nailed the vibes of the games while also making it palatable as a tv show for a new audience. Our main three characters so far feel really interesting and refreshing. I love it
I know it hadn't been said yet but hearing them talk of side quests reminds me of what the Ghoul says later in the season. The golden rule of the wasteland, "Thou shalt always get sidetracked by bullshit!" lmao SO TRUE!!!
So amazing so far, they are nailing the feel of the game. And I love that they have the chance to be able to show other vaults and some of the crazy ass stuff that happened in them. So many different ways to take the show later.
when i first saw the bombs dropping intro scene, i was legitimately sucked into that moment. When janey asks, "is it your thumb.. or mine..." pulls at my heart, cooper either trying to reassure and comfort his daughter, to convince himself it's not actually going down, or both, when those strings come in subtly, then they get more dissonant and eerie as the nuke cloud gets bigger. something about that sent chills down my spine, and made me legit short of breath, anxious, and teary eyed.. like some kind of primal fear had been activated in me, all of it was captured so masterfully. another thing i wanted to note is how much i thought i woulf hate norm at the beginning, but grew to love him by the end, the character development in the show is great too, this show was incredible, and i cannot wait for season two!
Just finished 8 episodes in one sitting with 2 pints of ice cream!! That was such a satisfying journey! Cant wait for S2! The show was so great in making me hate and love the characters especially Maximus. God, he was such an annoying coward at first but later became a much relatable character. I love what they did to Mordona and the backstory of the Ghoul.
Vault 34 is not connected to 31 32 and 33, Vault 34 is just outside of Vegas and can be visited in Fallout New Vegas. Which takes place before the show.
You mentioned the little details, such as the lantern design. Fun fact, Bethesda sent game files to the set designers and they 3D printed props directly from the game to decorate the world
that's what pissed me off about fallout radio in 3/nv. NOBODY MADE NEW MUSIC? i get it, big iron is a hit, but surely some kid looted a guitar and taught himself something.
There’s plenty of people who did learn. (The mysterious strangers son in new Vegas, for example) . But actually recording & distributing would require buying/finding equipment to record high quality holotapes, as well as teaching yourself sound engineering + figure out how to distribute them on top of that 😅
The opening sequence reminded me of a miniseries from the 80s called The Day After. It’s about what would happen if a nuclear bomb dropped on America. So disturbing.
I know y'all already filmed all of these reactions, but I wanted to mention this just for reference for future series: The combination of one who's familiar and one who isn't does NOT work. I would have loved to see either of you two react to this separately, but not together. The long-time fan can't geek out about the references, since he doesn't wasn't to spoil things for the blind viewer. And the blind viewer can't enjoy and play off of the new experience with the long-time fan, since it's only new for one of them. Combined, it just makes for an awkward experience where neither side can really shine. This isn't a knock against EITHER person -- it's just the COMBINATION of the two levels of experience that didn't work.
I expected “Fallout” to be boring TBH, for it to be a slow burn that ultimately had no real payoff character-wise. The trailers gave me that vibe… and I’m so happy to say, it’s been nothing but gripping from the get-go for this non-gamer!!!
I can't believe that at the point where Lucy's father saved her by bashing in the punks head that nobody reacting to this episode has said "You see, it's never too late for the shovel talk"
I've been playing Fallout since the first one in like 1998, ofc this series is mainly referencing the Bethesda era of Fallout, however I'm at episode 7 and I'm having the best time. The plot is defo out from a game (x looks for dad), the art design is PERFECTLY imaging the latest games, there are plenty of awesome references for players that don't hinder the show for those that never played and even the music is the music used for the game, while the score is very very very close to also what you find in the game. I'm very very positively impressed, and to use the words of our Lord and Saviour Todd Howard: "It just works".
Man that Robocop feeling you get when sporting your power armor never gets old, I'm so glad they showcased just how intimidating it can be to a normal person.
Ella Purnell (Lucy) also plays in "Yellowjackets" . I highly recommend it. Season 3 hopefully will be out soon. ***I just love the way Walter Goggings talks.
The fact that we have a fan of the Fallout games helming this TV probably helped with the faithfulness to the games. The best part is how they were able to have a “working” power armor instead of it being 100% CGI.
