@@grimgutsboth you and dom3267 are wrong and anyone who’s played the game, or has basic google skills, knows the microprocessor WAS invented. It literally exists in the game, and runs plenty of tech. One of the “missions” is literally you looking for one. It just never went mainstream as people just preferred vacuum tube tech.
Historical Fact: Prior to a country's entry into the industrial revolution, most people, especially in the rural areas, were born, grew up, married and died in the same village. A guy would literally marry the girl next door. So if the village have a small population, people would related to each other one way or another. When the railroad was introduced, people started leaving their tiny village and marry guys and girls from other towns and cities.
This is not a spoiler, since the show made it pretty clear that they wanted everybody to know (but you seem to have missed it) - the Ghoul at the end of the episode, is the Cowboy from the start. Subtle hints from the showmakers 😉 - (i) both characters were dressed as cowboys, (ii) the guys at the cemetery talk about how long the ghoul has been alive, (iii) the camera zoom, pause & dramatic music when the Ghoul says the “us cowpokes take it as it comes” catchphrase that the Cowboy said at the start, (iv) the fact that they have the same voice & accent, and oh yeah (v) the fact that the Ghoul is quite obviously Walton Goggins in makeup. 😂
The series best decision was to lean into "game Logic" so plenty of unrealistic things happen. The needle Lucy injects in herself for example heals you in game and also in the series. Why no new technology? How would they do that with limited resources? The vaults can have two hundred up to a thousand citizens. The bombs that were used are like the ones dropped on Japan in WW2, and Hiroshima is now habitable, so yes there are people on the surface. Time is a very uncertain thing in the series and it is rarely fully explained when things happen or in which order , so don't bother trying to figure out the series timeline just let it flow over you. The Ghoul is not a zombie, ghouls are mutants created by radiation (and in some cases by other means). Yes they are very tough, essentially immortal but they can be killed. And yes The Ghoul is the cowboy from the beginning.
Welcome to the world of Fallout! The metal suits are not robots, but suits of armor. The Brotherhood Knights wear the armor to gather tech whi;e out in the world. As you guessed at the beginning of the show, without a government, various factions have developed to try and gain control of the wasteland, with different ideas on how to do it. Also the ghoul at the end is the same cowboy in the opening at the birthday party. Looking forward to the next episode!

I think you missed the point of Moldaver saying that Lucy looked like her mother. The question you should be asking is, "How does Moldaver - a surface dweller - know what Lucy's mother looked like, if the vault dwellers have never left the vault?"
@@AKCFTW IMO, for someone not familiar with the games (except for Fallout Shelter) and setting, I think this reaction was fine. Although I admit, the edit was a bit short for my tastes.
Quick backstory for the Fallout World: It's set in an alternate timeline where the transistor was never invented so the world got stuck in the 50's style of living. Combined with sticking to nuclear power made the world look like a retro-active world well into the 2000's. Still had black and white tv's, bright colours everywhere, even robots. Every nation had thousands of nuclear bombs and there was a worldwide stalemate because whoever shot first would start a worldwide bombing. In 2077, after years of war between America and China over dwinding resources, someone decided to shoot first.
It's a 1950s aesthetic because it's Atom Punk, aka the future that people in the 1950s (Atomic Age) dreamed of. Given the people of the 1950s didn't even know what a transistor was, they could not have themselves dreamed of a future that includes them, and the things that come with them. There is an early atomic era aspect at play here as well, where the public was being introduced to ideas about atomic powered everything, that made the future sound amazing. They had not yet discovered that this future was a lie, due to radiation.
Some people are being horribly critical of you in the comment section, it seems like, and it's rather unfair. This show hits you with a lot. You can watch it a dozen times and still see new stuff. Maybe some of your commenters should try to remember that. I look forward to your next drop.
Was gonna rec The Last of Us at the mention of post event apocalypse but you already saw it. Sequel to Wandavision just dropped it's third episode. Agatha All Along.
"Is he the villain of this show?"... What a great question. Keep asking those questions. This show is a lot more fun if you've played the Fallout games but plenty good enough as a stand alone if you haven't. I think you'll enjoy it.
So as far as not hearing the bomb at first, light travels faster than sound by a lot. This means that you will always see an explosion before you hear it and the further you are from the blast the more pronounced the effect is.

The nuclear war wrecked the climate and some areas are still radioactive, in RL nuke weapon radiation decays rapidly but reactors material is very long lived. In the Fallout world, cars, factories etc were powered by mini-reactors and so MANY bombs were dropped the radiation is still lethal in places. Ghouls are humans with a slight mutation, when they get exposed to lethal radiation they don't die but mutate gaining a strange healing ability, so they can live for centuries but the healing doesn't stop all damage particularly to the skin and brain, so eventually they can go crazy, "feral", and Ferals act like hyperkinetic, very dangerous zombies. The Enclave is the most high tech, evil and mysterious of all the wasteland factions, remnants of the US military/government
So this looks old yet futuristic because in the game lore - the semi-conductor was never invented, so all yhe computers are huge - and the fashion never developed beyond the 50's one
In a fallout shelter? This is the end of new stuff for many centuries. Industries needs millions of people and a lot of ressources, coordinated efforts. The infrastructures, the mines, the truck drivers, the accountants to the retailers... all linked.
The show seems like a fun cheap put together show but it is actually very smart writing. There are things about the main characters that are different but very similar. The story is about things coming full circle as is done in script writing the use of circular story telling is important but this show really uses our own person prejudices to get a viewer to think in a particular direction thus you follow the circular story telling style to their conclusions.
This might make me a bad person. When I first watched this and she got stabbed with the knife. I kept thinking about that Batman has a dirty mind video.
Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuriatic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.
The transistor was invented but just much much later than in our timeline and hadn't become mainstream by the time the bombs fell. Also the US slid towards authoritarianism after the UN disbanded and Europe turned on each other fighting for resources. And to be fair it was half necessity. The US was the last place with oil reserves(the Alaskan reserves) and even in the US society was starting to breakdown as resources ran out.
