@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 There were a LOT of such references in Fallout 2. Star Wars ("We're fine, we're all fine here, now. How are you?") to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (splattered whale and flowerpot in the wasteland), etc.
Rest in Peace Shady Sands :( For some context Shady Sands is the first settlement you come across in the original Fallout. Set in 2161 it was a simple adobe settlement that was founded a few decades pier by dwellers from Vault 15 who founded the settlement after leaving the vault. By the events of Fallout 2 set in 2241 (60+ years later) Shady Sands was a major city in the wasteland and Capital to The New California Republic, also known as the NCR. The NCR is the closest thing to an old world government in the wasteland spreading beyond California by the events of Fallout New Vegas set in 2281. We don't see Shady Sands in New Vegas but as the NCR has moved into the Vegas area we here a few mentions of Shady Sands by troopers and civilians of the NCR who are settling in the Vegas area. By the events of the show set in 2296 it looks like the NCR is straight up gone after Shady Sands was destroyed. The NCR was filled with settlements all policed by NCR troopers, Lawmen, and The Rangers. But in the show by EP5 we don't see anything beyond a lawless wasteland. It's like the NCR was blasted back to how it was before the creation of the Republic during Fallout 1. The NCR falling is not unrealistic at all, even by New Vegas the NCR was fighting a war against the Legion to the East both factions fighting over the Hoover Dam. It all really depends on the canon ending of New Vegas tbh as that would have a massive effect on all factions involved. Then you got the fact something nuked Shady Sands, noted the sign says "First Capital" so maybe they moved capitals, New Vegas from my understanding never states that Shady Sands is still the capital.
I've always wanted to see shady sands, and lucky me, years later they make a fallout tv show, and out of everything they could've made of it, shady sands was in it. I've always pictured more of like a bone yard though, mixed with buildings and people.
Did the NCR really fall though or are they just in a very precarious situation? As far as I know it was just Shady Sands that was nuked, while the lost of a nation's capitol is bad it doesn't necessarily mean the nation was destroyed.
@@Sonicboom147 I don't know, if that's the case then the NCR wouldn't never have really been a stable democracy. I know that the NCR can never be the most stable democracy due to the how the wasteland is, but they have existed for a few hundred years, they must have had some level of stability.

It's weird how the vaults are descending into authoritarian communism. The whole point was to preserve the american way of life. But communism is probably a reasonable system for a vault. They don't exactly have free markets
Little guy is curious and smart, would be a good thief, big guy is strong and not so smart, he would be the brawler character. Lucy would be the charismatic diplomat, I love making Vault characters as starters. Blonde girl would be probably the best with SMGs.
I just watched episodes 6 and 7, and I'll just say... y'all are in for a fucking TREAT. My two favorite episodes of the season (have not watched the finale yet).
Thats a game play choice for balance the thing runs on a fusion core and as the show tells us a fc can power an entire vault so the fact they drain in minutes in the game is also a game play choice for balance
