The Robot was a reprogrammed med bot. They didn't erase its old program so it still does its old job of healing and then it runs the new program of harvesting organs.
@@master72448 Yeah they probably saw that their terrible programming resulted in a better product so they didnt bother fixing it. "Its not a bug, its a feature."
There was one story I remember of a ghoul turning in Fallout 4. If you remember Oswald the glowing ghoul in kiddie kingdom in Nuka-World, his wife left to search for a cure to ghoulism and if you explore the town of Bradburton before talking to Oswald you can find his wife's body and a holo-tape of her talking about fighting the change and not wanting to turn and harm people. Finding her tape is the only way to end it where you don't have to take out Oswald as he will leave himself to search for a cure. Oswald himself mentions how all his friends turned into ghouls in the park and how over time they all eventually went feral.
A potentially tragic part to that story (besides the 'all of it', which is... you know, Fallout) is that it may be Oswald's presence as a Glowing One that hastened their change. We know they emit strange energies that affect ghouls around them - what if besides bolstering, healing, and even reanimating them it also transforms or augments whatever process that hasn't clearly been defined yet causes ghouls to go feral?
I feel like the magic of this show stems from the fact that they did not CGI the hell out of this game and its source material. I mean, they could have made Snip Snip CGI, same with the Power Armor, or guns, or the Pipboy, but they didn't. All those things are real, physical. As viewers of the show, as fans of Fallout, we can relate and grasp what they are showing us, there is a sense of realism. I just love the respect they gave Fallout in this show. I gotta say I loved your reaction to this episode Kageric. I so can't wait to see what's your take on episode 5. There are so many things I can't wait to see you react to. I have the feeling in the pit of my stomach that you are about to be a kid in a candy store.
That's so true!! There's something so awesome about when more practical effects are involved. I love that they did that! And thank you, I'm so glad you're enjoying this journey with me! I look forward to sharing the next episode!
28:40 I really liked that her triumphant moment where she does eschew her morals in a way, it's in support of her primary moral of the Golden Rule. It was beautifully written; she is still strongly holding on to her humanity, despite all the murder... and dirt. (hehe if you caught that quote at the end lol 🙃)
Your upload schedule (or lack thereof) is just perfect in that I always manage to JUST forget that this channel exists until you suddenly upload a new video, keeps me at the edge of my seat for sure. :D
Hahaha well I hope someday I can sort my schedule well enough OR be able to grow the channel to the point to get an editor so things are a bit more consistant! Until then, I hope you can enjoy the chaos! 😂🔥👀
@@Kageric Oh, I definitely will! And for the record, it's also totally understandable if you don't want to have an upload schedule at all. I don't know your motives for posting videos, so I shouldn't expect anything specific. You do you. :)
I appreciate that!! My motive definitely is to enjoy myself first and foremost with the content that I make! And if I can ever turn this into a full-time venture then that'd be hecking epic too! @@BalefulRaven
It's nice seeing someone who enjoys Fallout as much as I do also enjoy the show as much as well. Fallout has always had a special place in my heart but I was hesitant to watch the show because along with the great memories are some that are hard to revisit. It helps a lot to not feel like I'm sitting here watching it alone, so thank you for taking the time to share this.
Late to the party, as usual... I hope that with the success of the first season, the second season will have a larger budget, and we can have super mutants. And deathclaws.
Love the games. Love the show. Fellow Aussie on the ball. Stick to the source material. "It's a fucken robot" for me was best line of the first season.
8:16 Geez Louise. The ghoul vials are definitely new, but I fear the organ harvesting might be related to how they're made. Otherwise it might make ghouls quite a bit less of a danger. I think there was a moral decision in F3 regarding ghouls and a community but the way it was presented it was hard to sympathize with ghouls, since they were basically a ticking time bomb. If there's a humane way to produce the vials then this could change this aspect drastically. The scene with Cooper is pretty cool because it is like his old self is talking to him, since he's now strong, ugly, and lacks dignity. Just like the villain.
Hmm, these are intriguing thoughts to dwell on for sure! I was thinking perhaps that the organ harvesting had something to do with the vials. I hope we get to learn about that further! I didn't grasp that in the end scene at first, but that's really interesting!
Late to the party, as usual... I don't think the organ harvesting has anything to do with the vials, as stoner #1 tells Snip-Snip to get Lucy's organs ready "for the next pickup." I think the organs are just another source of income. But why do they have dozens of lockers with ghouls in? Could it be that they're taking something from them in order to make the vials? (This, of course, does not preclude the organ harvesting being necessary as well. Like, they need the pancreas, but sell the rest or something. So much of speculation...)
Pretty sure The Ghoul is Todd Howard's murder-hobo Mary Sue. I mean, they even have the same last name, FFS. Also, 10mm is the starting weapon. If I have to use Small Guns, give me a .223 Pistol or a 14mm. Those pack a mean punch. For Small Guns. (But I Tag Energy Weapons so I can bullseye deathclaws with my Mark I Turbo Plasma Rifle "Fat Mama," or if they get too close, my Tarot-Magic Lucky Alien Blaster "Velvet Elvis." "The Golden Rule: He who has the Gold makes the Rules." --Keith David, aka Decker from Fallout 1. Honestly, it annoys me that they have a Fallout 4-exclusive creature before deathclaws. They should have had a deathclaw by now. And then... talking deathclaws. Also, your mission, SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT: Do a playthrough of Fallout 1, get the best armor in the game, and defeat the final boss without fighting it. YOU MAY ONE DAY LEARN THE ORIGIN OF OKEY-DOKEY!!!
Haha I never really thought about how they both share the same surname 😂 Also, definitely interested in playing Fallout 1 as I bet there are a lot of references I'm missing by not playing it yet. I'll try to keep your mission in mind, thanks!
You was Ugly, Strong, and had Dignity! The Ghoul realized he had also lost his dignity. I give you two out of three on that front. The self reflection at the end was so good. When he lost it by compromising on his values.
Not just his dignity but his humanity. The character he created in the movie was sold out due to what the studio wanted. He had to adapt to new circumstances which reflected his current situation. He needs to adapt to the wasteland even if it means selling out his humanity. Lucy taught him she could adapt to the wasteland without losing her humanity

12:10 - The fingers are a metaphor. Lucy absorbed a bit of Wasteland toughness via the new finger. Keep an eye out for what happens to Lucy's old finger.
I laughed so hard the first time the med bot said he was just going to harvest her organs. The Super Duper Mart being full of ghouls is such a nice callback to the games too. Also that 10mm was perfect!
The way he says it too is great "I'm SIMPLY going to harvest your organs!" 🤣 Yeah, that was a great episode!! I loved the callbacks, props and references
11:30 "you seem to be a woman." FINALLY! Somebody else laughed at that!. Thank you! I think that line is so funny and you're the only reactor I've seen laugh at it! 😊
It's an even better line when you think back to another classic Matt Berry line from The IT Crowd: "Come on! We both knew it was on the cards as soon as I realised that you were a woman!".
Yeah, that thing with the "medicine" vials keeping them from turning feral is something new that this show has implemented. Or is it just a red herring?
Guess this means your new computer is up and running. Congrats 10mm! I said the same. I am ashamed being excited seeing such a crappy gun lol. In this episode I'm thinking they make that unknown drug there, and they make if from harvested organs. Okee Dokee! There, now you can get a good night's sleep.
It is indeed! and it runs programs and games all butter-y smooth - unlike my previous PC! Haha yes the 10mm is known for that but surprisingly, it's a great weapon for challenge runners! especially because the ammo is always widely available and the potential upgrades for it! I was wondering perhaps if the organs were tied in to that as well... interesting!
*Everything* has a reason, cause or meaning in this show. The tightness and quality of the writing is crazy. Every time I've seen something that doesn't 'make sense', it's because I missed a detail or didn't put two pieces of information together. Like with the reprogrammed medbot that wants to keep the prisoners in 'mint condition' for harvesting.
27:55 regarding character development: I think the Ghoul and Lucy are going to have to opposite effect on each other. Lucy is going to lose her niavete and the Ghoul is going to regain some humanity. Also, Wilzig's prophecy about the wasteland changing her and that she might not want the same things anymore is starting to come true .
Ooh that'd be an interesting development for sure. It's definitely interesting to me that there time traveling together has had such an impact on one another. It's awesome! And yeah, it's so true what Wilzig said!!
from the explanation given by Three Dogs, DJ in Fallout 3: ghouls are people who have absorbed a huge dose of radiation and were not lucky enough to die. their appearance changes and they look like zombies from old horror films, they live a long time, hundreds of years, radiation has no effect on them but over time they become feral and until this TV series there seemed to be no cure for this final condition. I've always wondered if ghouls felt pain, because they were transformed by exposure to an enormous amount of radiation that made them become radioactive themselves, so it's as if they lived inside a microwave oven that constantly cooks them, maybe even this is why they continuously take any type of drug.
Hmm, yeah these are interesting thoughts! I think that the vials might slow the process of becoming feral rather than completely stop the process. And surely they must feel pain, I wonder if the vials would also provide relief for that?
Late to the party, as usual - hope somebody reads this... So the stoners in the super duper mart have a bunch of vials. Presumably, they manufactured them somehow. They also have a whole bunch of ghouls in lockers. Is it possible that they are harvesting something from the ghouls in order to make the substance in the vials that prevents ghouls from becoming feral? Or was that really obvious, and I'm a big dummy for thinking it's a novel thought?
I think the implication is that ghouls only start taking the serum once they start going feral - there wouldn't have been any back when the bombs fell after all, so he couldn't have been taking it for all that time. But it sounds like he started showing signs of going feral quite a long time ago...
26:10 Doooood same. I got into Fallout like 2ish years after it came out, around 9 years old, and fell in love. Ever since 1, and all the same from 3+ when you're in a dark place and BOOM one of them lunges out at you. Eh! 😨😱 lol
*The Ghoul cannibalizes his friend* [Lucy hated that.] Yow know, when the first images of the Super Duper Mart were leaked I was super skeptical about the show, glad I was proven otherwise. Loved your reaction!
LMAO 🤣 Yeah, I tried to go in with medium expectations based on how some adaptations have turned out in the past few years. But gosh dang they've been doing an awesome job!!
Another great video! Ghouls in the game made me panic. You could use VATS to whack a couple but there was always one left to leap at you. Right when I thought I was ok with them I ran into the glowing ones 🤦♂
Thank you, you legend!! And my gosh!!! Right?? They can be so hard to hit at times, which sends me into more of a panic!! The way they roll onto the ground in Fallout 4 always got me!
Great react! I've been waiting for this for weeks now. Good to see you got your new editing rig up & running. And BTW, recognizing the use of an energy weapon against the robot was a solid callout. And of course who can forget, "Golden rule, MF'er." So say we all. Glad to have you back, Kageric! 😁
Thank you so much, Kurt!! The editing felt so much smoother to do on the new rig, it really was great!! It's made gaming a lot smoother too, which is also rad ☢️
The ghoul that always makes me yelp in fear, is one you pass following Deacon on the overpass during the first Railroad quest. Every single time. Whack in the back. Don't quote me on it. But I think I've read terminal entries by someone that was a ghoul, as they turned feral. Unless I'm thinking of the house near Bunker Hill, where the doctor turned herself ghoul. Other than that, I don't think we've seen the change before in game. There was a ghoul character in the fan series Nukabreak who was fighting turning feral too. That shows here on YT. It's one of the best fan productions, and well worth a watch.
Oh yeah, they especially used to scare me when at first you don't see them and then suddenly they crawl out of a window or something!! Ahh gotcha, I couldn't remember that one! Also, Nukabreak is awesome!
I Love this episode especially because this the part where Lucy gets tossed around! ☣️💫💥🙀🤘🏽 I was worried the show would treat her like a Mary Sue. This episode definitely quelled my worries, in that regard. And The Farel Ghouls! 🙌🏽🧟
And her Slight Voice crack and her eyes is Adorable to me, when the Ghouls using her as fish bait! I wanna Throw her into Traffic, she's so Adorable! 🥺👐🏽🙀🚕🚗
Great work with the edits! Chet may not fit in those physical shoes, but it seems he's filling them Metaphorically! I'd like to say things has only begun, but this is the halfway point in the series!
Hi. Love your reactions to Fallout TV show. 😊 This is a really good episode and a major turning point in showing us Lucy really starting to adapt to Westland rules. This is one of my favourite episodes, even if it is quite difficult for me to pickup some of them in particular as the best ones. Thank you for your reactions. 😊
Thank you so much, that really does mean a lot!! This has to be one of my favourites so far too. It's so cool seeing these characters adapt and overcome to their obstacles. They're all so likeable to me so far!
I started watching a few Fallout reaction videos but it wasn't much fun watching the game references going over people's heads because they're not Fallout fans. Then I found you and I couldn't be happier. Seeing someone who loves the games as much as I do, who gets the references and easter eggs, who understands the lore and is also a fellow Aussie is pretty amazing. Great videos! I can't wait for the rest!
Well, yes, both feralization and ghoulification are bit unknown processes within Fallout universe. Creators leave it to fans imagine with few hints, like radioactivity influence on process, but show now giving us some more informations and explanations. Now, it will depend if show will be fully integrated as canon to universe. Also, you are right that in games, we were very rarely witness of feralization or ghoulification.
21:11 You commented about seeing that foot up in air. If you pause at 18:12 you can see when that guy dies, his foot is up there, but is wearing a boot. So how does he end up barefoot? Notice when Lucy leaves the Super Duper Mart she is wearing not just armor but also a new pair of boots, since the gulper ate one of hers. She is finally learning to loot from the dead. Best line of the series so far: "Golden rule, Motherfucker". Hahahahaha that one just killed me when I first watched this.
Ahhh!! Wow, that's a detail that's easy to miss, so interesting!!! Lol that HAS to be my favourite line from that episode for sure. The chicken f*er line from ep 2 still has to be my favourite though. It still makes me chuckle when I think about it 😂
In my playthroughs I usually make an effort to read everything on every terminal in the game. Thanks for another very entertaining reaction, Kage! 🤗 😉👍
Firstly, the O.O reactions when Steph was using Chet to 'replace' Bert were absolute gold XD But also, you're right - In game afaik it's basically Feral/not Feral, not much in between other than some comments here and there. Personally I am kinda hoping that in future Fallout titles you can play AS a Ghoul, perhaps with some sort of survival system where we need to find those vials or else we ourselves turn Feral :D
They could insert a mechanic in survival mode where if you choose to play as a ghoul you don't need so much food & water, don't have to worry about radiation, but finding, buying or crafting those vials is paramount.
Yeah! That would be a perfect trade-off to maintain the difficulty levels of survival. But instead of keeling over and dying of thirst or hunger, the death/game over animation is just you turning feral and running off into the sunset XD
@@Raziel657 You only get minimal healing from food/drink, but you can heal slowly from radioactive environments, drinking from polluted water, etc. As you get closer and closer to turning feral, odd things begin to happen. When you sleep, sometimes you wake up somewhere else. You have been "sleepwalking" in a semi-feral state. You didn't go far and you might have a few unexplained minor injuries from who-knows-what. Boy, it would be fun to chart out the development of a ghoul character for Fallout 5. I really hope they do something with this. In the other big Bethesda franchise, Elder Scrolls, they make a big deal about your choices in character creation. Even more so in other games (Baldur's Gate 3, looking at you). Fallout really just gives us male/female and the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. allocations. Time for multiple choices! I just looked up the old game Fallout Tactics. You could be human, ghoul, super mutant, deathclaw (in early games deathclaws could talk) a dog or a robot.
The thing I like most about your reactions is it's clear you have a ton of knowledge about the game but you don't ruin things for non-gamers like myself. Most everything you comment on adds to the viewing experience by deepening understanding not spoiling.
@@Kageric No, Id bet its the actual location. They have already confirmed that the show builds on all game canon, and takes place after the events in all FO games (76). The BoS airship is the Prydwyn from Boston Airport in FO4 ( which means the BoS faction quest in FO4 is the timeline, unfortunately, as the Prydwyn is destroyed in the other quests).
@@targe762 The Prydwyn is only destroyed as a mandatory objective in the Institute or Railroad ending. "Rocket's Red Glare" doesn't trigger for the Minutemen unless you make an enemy of the Brotherhood. Becoming General of the Minutemen and Sentinel of the Brotherhood is easy to maintain and probably the best overall ending for the Commonwealth as a whole. I'd bet that the Minuteman ending is the 'timeline' ending.
I think Snip Snip attached a new finger to Lucy’s nub because they aren’t just harvesting organs, but all body parts. So, an intact arm with hand and 5 fingers would be worth more to them on whatever medical black market they trade, hence The Ghoul’s description of Lucy as a nearly mint condition female when he initiated his trade for her.
I think that it's more likely that snip snip was just doing its base programming because it's a medical bot. It has a medical caduceus symbol on it. (You might need to pause the video to catch it.) The two knuckleheads just added extra programming on top of that to harvest organs.

The vials are a cocktail of drugs that help slow the feral process, the 'turning ghoul' said he had started the change from ghoul to feral 28 years earlier, (he was born pre-war), and Cooper had started to turn before then. Going feral is inevitable, but drugs and willpower can slow the transition. Pretty cool addition to the lore (and good news for Hancock!)
We don't know if Roger ghoul is pre-war or not. The show never said. Roger only said it had been 28 years since he started "showing". That could mean since he started to become a Ghoul or since he started to show signs of becoming feral. He could be pre war or he could have become a Ghoul 28 years ago.
Hmm yeah, interesting!! That makes me think... that means characters like the vault tec rep and billy the fridge kid must have some mighty strong willpower!
I thinkkk the famine in vault 33 happened around the same time Rose Maclean escaped to Shady Sands with Moldaver, and when Hank nuked the place. I don’t think there was a famine at all, but actually just an excuse for Hanks weight loss after being out in the wasteland searching for Rose. The blight in vault 32 was a line said by Moldaver, and was part of her cover story I believe.
That was well worth the wait. You are a true Fallout fan. I enjoyed how.excited you got from all the little details. I did the same, but I missed a.few, like the wonder glue on the overseers desk. Great job.
I had a merch idea that I would definitely buy a coffee mug with a picture of you in your vault suit giving a thumbs up with the caption "ass jerky don't make it's self ". Or a tee shirt, I'd buy either.
So, um, I just order some of your merch. Also I've been watching your play throughs. I really hope you do more reactions and other stuff. You are totally nerdttasticous, ( nerdy and fantastic combined) . Would you do 8x10 autographed photos?
I watched a video about Fallout 4 mods. I hear that there is a mod that amps up the scary factor of the screams of ghouls when they are attacking you. That sounds fun right?
No, Chet is NOT Steph's cousin. Steph is from Vault 31. The inhabitants of Vault 31 are not related to the individuals in either Vault 32 or Vault 33. This is why Lucy was selected by the Vault 33 panel for the Breeding lottery.
