Well it actually makes a ton of sense in lore with the world and what your Courier would actually know. In Lonesome Road ED-E mentions he came from Illinois, Chicago and your dialogue options even with 10 Intelligence are “What’s a Chicago?” And “illi-what? Are you making that word up?” Your couriers intelligence is based off of the information available in his world. I doubt that the subtleties of whether an 0 has a slash through it or not and how it can differentiate itself from O didn’t survive the nukes. So it would take a lot of intelligence and information gathering to figure that out for somebody living in the post apocalypse
@@eclong462 Yeah, thanks for the explanation, also why Fallout 4 has such different INT perks, since it goes off pre-war knowledge like only needing a 2 to start improving medical knowledge by wasteland standards, whilst nerd rage needs INT 10 because it isn't the sort of thing you just learn from pre-war books and stuff, whilst in NV Nerd Rage needs way less for that but weapon modding feels like clumsy adjustments with no available training, and you need Medicine 35 just to know about plural systems since that's not what people learn. this isn't F4 praise, just enjoying that NV treats INT as the post war knowledge it is.
Yeah, it involves numbers and obscure words, at least by never going to school standards. by NV standards the average person today would have at least 7 INT
@@stm7810 yeah, like the kid in that tent at the followers camp, who didn’t know the word lieutenant. It’s not like kids are going to school on free side
@@gottfriedschickelgruber2478 Yeah, it was great world building to have the stats represent how they are viewed by that society, like how perception is not that influenced by sight due to all the dust in the air, and it's more about sound and feeling the ground beneath you, Intelegence is about basic medical and mechanical knowledge, like 35 medicine to know about plural systems and use the wrong term, 55 to notice someone's obvious anger issues, 75 repair to turn off a screen to prevent ghost images, 90 science to even suggest brain transfer stuff. but at the same time 50 explosives is enough to make duck and cover tactics instinctual and effective.
@@stm7810 Well it's like Doc Mitchell said, most people in the wasteland aren't educated. Most books and magazines would've been destroyed during the great war, and there won't be a lot of educational institutions outside of civilized area's like NCR territory. The average person is probably going to have 4 intelligence, maybe 5 at most.
@@Wintd1 what I was saying is that even 7 INT is low by our societal standards, it's stuff like counting gunshots in real time, a thing that most people do no trouble. INT means less to fit the world.
think of the override code as like the default passwords to a brand new router or something. Gutsy's were mass produced so its possible that override code is same for certain gutsy/handy models.
Arcade at the beginning said “west of the Colorado” but the subtitles said “east side of Arizona”. I think he forgot to put any of his points into intelligence.
@@bcrunch yea there was quite a bit in the game's coding and planning that saids there was more, but i saw a trailer for skyrim extended cut and that trailer claims to add additional story and quests that were removed, but that is me since microsoft is getting their shit together
To be fair, this is a setting where you can attach an explosive device to that aforementioned pneumatic fister to make folks explode WHILE hitting them. In that regard, punching is a bit pedestrian.
The dialogue choices in Old World Blues is some of the best I’ve seen. With a high intelligence the courier straight up disses all the brains left and right. It’s fucking fantastic. Also befriending the one that they all picked on always warmed my heart. He got excited when you showed up and sad when you left.
5:15 Translation of Latin to English Corruptia optimi pessima: The corruption of the best is the worst. The "best" meaning people of high status and/or rank as Romans called their aristocracy "men of quality". Legum servi sumus: We are slaves/servants - Partial quote of Cicero in _Pro Cleuntio_ . The full quote is "Omnes legum servi sumus ut liberi esse possimus", meaning "We are servants of the law so that we can be free". I'm sure Caesar left out the last part as a means of maintaining his dictatorship. Timeo Danaos et dona ferentis: I fear the Danaans [Greeks], even those bearing gifts - Virgil, in the Aeneid.
@@MulettoMotorsports Veronica is close third tied with both lily and Raul. I know Raul isn’t the funniest or anything but he’s a certified badass in my eyes.
Failed medicine checks are the funniest after low intelligence checks. Caesar: *ARRGHG* Courier: [Medicine 7/35] Uhhh, does your head hurt? Caesar: What the fuck do you think, asshole?
@@khinlop There's also a reverse Intelligence check in Dead Money. If you have an INT lower than or equal to 4, Dog will explain his origins to you, mentioning both The Master and the Cathedral.
High intelligence in the wastelands means you have common pre-war knowledge that isn’t so common anymore . Most books you find on the world are burned .
yeah, considering Arcade and Freeside are west of the Colorado River, I think ‘west of Colorado’ is referring to his own perspective, which is very much not coming from east of Arizona. the line must’ve gotten messed up somewhere during development
Love this game, and while they got the latin spot on - ancient roman pronunciation and all - they got the Greek wrong at 23:45. The courier was wrong when he "corrected" Mobius. It's ouroboros with an omicron. The -us ending is latin, and ouroboros is definitely a Greek word (and does not use latin grammar or noun endings). Είναι "ουροβόρος" στα ελληνικά. Mobius said it in an odd but passable way, however in Greek it's pronounced like "oor-'ov-ó-ros" (with rolled r's) and like "oor-oh-bohr-ohs" in English
I started to watch this playlist from the Strenght perk. The smooth transition to Intelligence perk was so smooth I noticed it after like 2 minutes into the video haha.
About 10 years ago when I found out about this masterpiece I was going through a really tough time, I was doubting in everything and everyone, including myself. This game taught me what it means to be highly intelligent and how it can compliment and compensate you. It really showed me how this quality can be to achieve goodness in your life. I never found a game I could relate to so much than when with FNV. Timeless masterpiece. God bless you.
Dunno if it's an unpopular opinion or not, either way imo playing with high Intelligence is really fun. You can spit some scientific mumbo jumbo on people and they'll be confused as hell while they don't understand a word of what you said, it's just really fun. Plus you get cool dialouge options with Gannon.
5:20 The 3 Latin phrases are as follows. First one is “the corruption of the best is the worst.” Second is “we are slaves.” Third is “I fear Greeks bearing gifts.” Used translator on this one, don’t actually speak the language. If someone has a more correct pronunciation(hopefully for that 3rd one) please do let me know.

Why is it so difficult to find this video? There are ten million videos on Low Intelligence checks but it feels like this is the only High Intelligence check video out there. Having to "-low" in search query is so awkward.
LOL I made the mistake of not having subtitles when with Christine. Never knew she did sign language, just seemed like she either nodded or shook her head, then silence.
@@bill8215 was listening and was trying to think where I've heard that voice before, then it clicked. However he actually isnt the same voice actor, just a coincidence.
That's actually not correct. The courier was wrong. It's Ouroboros with an o (omicron). The -us ending is latin, and ouroboros is definitely a greek word. Είναι "ουροβόρος" στα ελληνικά
First clip the guy says "west of the Colorado" but captions say "east of Arizona". Never have I noticed the captions being different from the speech. Even includes onomatopoeia yk? 🤣
I’ve played this game many times, I’m trying to remember, does Agility and Endurance have any dialogue checks? If I ran across some it must’ve been very few, I’m not remembering any.
"A fair point, but from the perspective of someone on the east side of Arizona, the man is clearly out of his mind." wait but he said west of colorado wat
Wait how exactly is it that Christine can be a whizz on a terminal but can't write? If her cognitive functions make it hard to string words together, she shouldn't be able to do either. And if her motor functions make it so that she can't perform the motions... she still shouldn't be able to do either??
they should have done silent protagonist with an extended dialogue interface, it would have been much easier for them and allowed the use of perks and stuff in dialogue, like using Medic or gunslinger in the investigation of your spouse dying, or INT for getting more info from the institute, I do like that Sturgis says you already could rip off the gun if you have STR 8, and more things like that would be cool.
Ok...Lot of int checks I can understand, they make sense and lot of people, including me can me same arguements. But what the shit 4:15 where did you get that code? Eh?
@@secondpath5148 How did courier knew the old override code for house company, without ever interacting with said robots before or knowing who House is.
