Fallout New Vegas - Meltdown Perk - Is It Worth It?

I know that Fallout New Vegas is not the newest Fallout game, however, to this day it remains as my favorite. That's why I'm really glad you're making videos about it. :)

This perk was super useful for Dead Money as an EW build, as it exploded Ghost people, often dismembering them instantly. I've found it very hard to use in close quarters, though. Tends to instakill me in the blast. The explosions also send enemies flying, which is really fun but very annoying when they have an item you want and they fly into space.

would you do a video on traits? i think the "skilled" trait is lowkey the best (except wild wasteland)

This perk is how I damaged and killed my first pack of Cazadors, with out dying myself of course.

Would love to see more NV videos. Plan to replay NV sometime this year, playing it in hardcore mode for the first time.

Meltdown is a hell of a lot of fun to play around with and is pretty effective as an offensive boost, but it did get stale and eventually I would run into circumstances where it was annoying or even a liability with some regularity. I'd recommend saving it until very high levels (40+) for the average energy weapons character.

No matter what energy weapon you're using. It's well worth it. And why do you care for a bit of collateral damage ? You'll always be full of stimpacks, datura roots, alcohol and chems.

Meltdown perk + Bloody mess perk + 100 energy weapons + Elijah's Tesla cannon = most OP build in history

My EW character has this and carries the Q35 Matter modulator and the YCS/186. Those two are the perfect combination for any range.

Fuck yeah its worth it, with it im able to wipe out an entire group of people in 1 shot with my tri beam lazer rifle

bro to be honest i just found your channel in the recommended so im a bit new but one thing i must say is thank you, thank you for doing videos about fallout new vegas, fallout 3 and skyrim, does are my favorite games and seeing them still in action by youtubers makes me smile because there a so many games lately and these games in are "playable" anyway thank you and i hope you still grow because we need more people to do videos about thoes good game ;D

Oh energy weapons are by far my favourite weapons of new Vegas next to grenade launchers. For any wondering I used Ygs- start off without wild wasteland then respec in OWB Grenade launcer (the multiple grenades one) Sprtle wood Plasma defender Tri beam laser Multiplas Flamer Pushy T51 b helm and armour And take the increase to weapon firing perk at the beginning And take all perks relating to ammo it makes you a tank with great dps. I never took the perk due to its colouration and I don't really understand the reason for it happening in game. Though anything about Vegas is great

Meltdown is a mixed bag. Practically necessitates a melee/unarmed investment, since the explosions hurt you against close targets. I’ve found VATS to be crucial, to slow down and hold enemies in position at a safe distance. I’m just about to take the level 30 perk Implant GRX, for the added slowdown effect, keeping enemies at bay. I don’t think I would take it again. It needs constant vigilance , a build, and strats to keep from hurting you or companions, and renders energy weapons practically useless up close. It’s a cool perk, but is something you build everything around. I don’t even take Rex anymore.

I use the Q-35 in my EW playthrough and it crits pretty much every third shot, even without light touch (I wear power armor). Meltdown for me is just overkill, I like being able to make precise shots without harming companions or civilians.

If you got an energy weapon skill of 90, then htf are you not using energy weapons

At 2:11 if you are worried about matching color use the AER14 prototype or the SPRTL-WOOD 9000

Man this game is so beast! I feel so ashamed that this isn't my favorite Fallout game. The perks, traits, enemies are all really cool and the weapons and armor system awesome, why can't I just love this game MORE than its predecessor?! Why can't I just love this game MORE than Fallout 3?! like everyone else.

IMO this mod is only taken if your running pure energy weapons build otherwise better crits is a much more reliable and safe perk to take at the same lvl

hmmmm.... I'm thinking this perk plus max charge sonic emitter tuned to "bark" mode might be truly devastating with a high crit energy build. the bark pushes everything a decent range away from you, and right into the path of other enemies. it would kinda combine the bark plus the scorpion effects. gonna try it and will report back. nope. what happens is the exlposion is triggered as soon as their hp hits 0, so knocking the body back does not prevent you from being caught in it. otoh, if it dies on the SECOND shot, then you've knocked it back and killed it far enough away to not be affected. this works WONDERS in OWB, where you are constantly ganked by roboscorps. this lets you move a few steps away shoot one to knock it back and stun it, then explode it for your weapon damage in explosion PLUS the explosion damage from the scorp itself. kills everything around them. nifty. so, situational. still dangerous.

Gat laser and ycs for laser damage high dps and singles shot damage

Always seemed like a good but i ended up blowing myself up since so many enemies bum rush your ankles

I love you're perk videos and i hope you make one for every perk in the game if you haven't already I appreciate everything you do keep up the good work

I'll mention one con that I've found. While it's awesome against humans and ranged enemies, against quick moving melee enemies it's a liability. I can't count the number of times I've killed myself after shooting a Deathclaw or nightstalker that was in my face.

Energy weapons are great in FNV. I rocked an energy + criticals + VATS build that frankly got OP. There was nothing I couldn't destroy, bosses, rooms of mobs etc. All dead very quickly! Never tried Meltdown though...

Is used this in my most memorable NV-build: Brutus - Enclave soldier and son of Colonel Autumn from F3. He used a combination of energy- and unarmed weapons, and was also a skilled hacker.

I already got it and IMO, it’s the best perk for E weapons. It can do 300+ additional damage after killing your enemy which is more than enough to kill surrounding targets. But, the chain reaction is a different story, combined with the “Elijah’s advanced LAER” you’ll be nearly unstoppable. Note: The EALAER does around 115-125 max bass damage, 230+ crit.

This perk combined with gauss rifle is so insane.

Meltdown is the shit. CONS: Very bad at close range, especially in hardcore with max diff, also dont scales with any explosives perks, cause the game cosider it as energy weapon dmg. PROS: damage of explosion depends on base weapon dmg and also scales dmg if critical hit, and more if sneak crit, and more even if sneak head crit. SO a sneak critical head on a Deathclaw, with the unique Gauss rifle, Actually kills every other deathclaw next to it. FUN FACT. try it at deathclaw promontory, hit the alpha male or female while surrounded by the 4 other dcs and the 3 young ones. BOOM. edit: dmg output also counts ammo type and base weapon dmg, this is how YCS is best weapon for meltdown, and any flamer is the worst. but flamer meltdowns are so weak, anddmg over time wont trigger meltdown so its safe to play at close range. usefull for swap if thing get closer

Its no worth it, even when it variables your limbs because you were way too close to the guy your shot

Man...energy weapon sniper build sounds almost op just because they have over 50% chance to crit AND can hit two or three people with this perk......like

The thing that makes this perk ANNOYING AS FUCK is the fact that it can one, hit you, so rip multiplus rifle users, two, it can cause damage to NPC’s you weren’t meaning to hit, which will then turn hostile. The amount of times I had to reload a save cuz I accidentally killed am npc with this perk drove me insane.

I never get this perk unless I'm playing with pew pew only. It's just to much. It ruins close range plasma and a bunch of other energy weapons playstyles
