For those who have trouble with this method. After speaking with Elijah run straight out to the middle bunker with the laser turrets mounted on the top, sneak crouch using the structure to hide yourself from Elijah's sight. Once you reach the walkway that leads to the exit, stand and run for it. Oh, and don't forget to close the vault door on your way out otherwise Elijah is alerted the moment he approaches the vault and calls up the barriers.

This method does work! Just takes a little patience. Some important things to remember (things that screwed me up); 1) Make sure to close the vault door behind you, he doesn't seem to pause if he can see that the door is already open. 2) TURN OFF YOUR PIP-BOY LIGHT!!! I made the day-one mistake of leaving on my light and even with 100 sneak, he spots you very easily.
YESSSS!!!! TOTALLY WORKED! After like 50 attempts, i just said f**k it and stood up and slowly made it out the door. Flipped my sh!t after trying to crouch for so long lol
I finallt done it. Make sure you turn off your pip boy light. I found it helped to just run up those stairs as soon as I made it to them. Now I don't know what to do with the gold bars as I certainly can't fast travel 😂
One thing is to put all the gold bars in your invt., then drop them all, then pick it up but not putting it into your inventory and just carry it to the door, then at the door just put it into your inv and walk out.
This Works! I used a stealthboy to improve my sneak skill and 3rd person view to see exactly when Elijah was in the right place to start running. Exiting sneak mode also lets you run that tiny bit faster to get out before the forcefields activate.
I don't think it is. Like I said, I had implants and followed his instructions to the letter. The forcefields came up as soon as I approached them regardless of whether Elijah had noticed me or not. :(
i know im 8 years late but you dont have to convince Elijah to come down you can just proceed normally walk up to the barrier and drop the gold through it and grab it on your way out
I thought so, but it's the security kicking in, not Elijah noticing - unless they're tied together. Elijah was usually at the door (and thus behind a wall) when I was making my daring escape. Granted I only had a 60 sneak level at the time, but I thought that would be enough...
A way to not become overencumbered is to pick them all up and drop them again to stack them then use RS to pick them up so that they hover in front of you. Then just run out the door with them.
Getting out with the gold bars is driving me nuts. I don't know how many attempts I've done. Nothing works. Elijah must have some kind of super sense or something cos the alarm goes off and the door is shut no matter what I do.
I LOVE YOU!!!!!! (no homo). It took a while but it worked. and a tip fir other people go into third person when hes a few meters away from the door an when hes locked onto the it stand up and HALL ASS to the door. Worked for me that way and actually had maybe a second or two to spare before the force field came on.
This is difficult/impossible to repeat. Spent two hours on it, then watched someone else's video where I was instructed to leave through another exit. Had to leave some of the gold behind, but I got the achievement. Not sure what you did to stop the force fields from activating, but they fucked me up each time. I even had turbo implants. :(
I'm terribly sorry, but your method of sneaking past him is faulty and impractical. There's no plausible way to sneak past him, while avoiding the alarms, before the laser shields go down.
This is actually a lot more difficult than I excepted, not just this method but the achievement in general. I kept getting detected with a stealth boy and he would always activate the holodoors the moment before I would step into the elevator room.
