Always found it interesting that according to Chris Avallone that during Van Buren the devs did table top role playing Fallout and found out that the players would always surprise him with their decisions and couldn’t predict what they would do as a DM. He said that helped make the decision to make 3 different ways to finish New Vegas quests.
Kinda the reason I adore Obsidian plots. I think if Dragon Age was a campaign DM would murder me or I would murder them for in whole story there was never a one point I agreed with "good guys".
The Fallout series might be in a good place, the publishers just have to dare again and make Fallout 5 (on newer engines and modern game mechanics) and just make a separate game like the original games with isometric or similar characteristics of the older parts. after all, they basically made mt fallout shelter as a "game" that doesn't need an ego or isometric camera, and that still had its fans. The studios just have to dare more. horrible to see so much potential being wasted.
And I, as a fan, you always ask yourself why, can't a player-oriented person prevail in the company. It's not a bad thing that English companies don't do surveys here in Germany, but in the USA or UK there are just as many fans who have an objective, reasonable awareness of what game series need, why can't you at least ask there or get involved connect people ? Most of the points have already broken out of their crowns anyway, what difference does it make if they turn to your PLAYERS from a REASONABLE and humane way. After all, we are the people who fill their wallets, not the other way around.
The "Enclave floor decoration", while clearly a reused asset, would fit the location quite a lot with some ad hoc touches since most of the government-funded, pre-war corporations of Fallout take names and iconography from greek mythology, the prison included.

It's so weird thinking about how far they took Joshua Graham. Originally looking like a Red Skull/Palpatine hybrid who was very clearly chaotic evil. Huge difference from the chaotic good Graham we know.
@Shia Lebeouf: Life Coach The Legion were definitely Lawful Evil. I think the NCR were intended to be Chaotic Good, House was a True Neutral for sure, the rarest alignment and hardest to write well, and they did a great job. And then Yes Man was pure Chaotic Neutral. It's crazy how pretty much any character/faction in fiction can be summed up with a D&D alignment. Just goes to show how on the money they were when they made them.
@@planescapedabsolutely nothing can be accurately summarized with d&d alignment, they weren't on the money when they made it and it's worst thing about d&d that actaully really ruins the perfection of original (first 2 editions) d&d
This is a really interesting one for me, as when I did my interview with Hexer, the mod was in its previous release. Even less of the game was finished. About half the content you mention (maybe even a little more) was absent in the build I played. Seems that in the new content, both the positives and the negatives of that old build have been carried over. I still have a lot of hope for this one in spite of those negatives. Maybe I'm just desperate. No, that couldn't be...
Hi ramblelime, PJ Hexer here 👋 I am aware of the game’s flaws but I do have to remind people this is a work in progress. I regret releasing these WIP builds and I can’t believe people are seriously reviewing what is basically version 0.20. I’ll probably stop with the public release practice altogether, this isn’t doing anyone a favor
@@FalloutFansEditor Hone your craft without judgement, can't do you any favors to have people reviewing your early builds so I understand that. Shine it to perfection, boyo!!
@@FalloutFansEditor Hey PJ! I'm sorry if my comment made it sound like a critique- both mine and Warlockracy's video mention that it's a work in progress and that modding for classic fallout is exceptionally difficult. I empathize totally with the process, and like I said, i'm excited! Even if not everything mentioned is positive, my hope is that with extra attention comes extra funding for you and your project. That being said, if you choose to stop releasing public builds and you'd prefer that the project move along more quietly, I support that also. Let me know if you'd prefer my video be set to private, that's okay with me. All the best :)
@@ramblelime Thank you! It’s fine, keep your video public. I don’t find working on this game difficult but very time consuming. I do have a full time job and this game is 3 times the size of Fallout 2 😕 Anyways, back to the workshop for me!
russia wont invade no country has ever given their enemies this much advance warning of an attack, and they certainly wont invade after all this weaponry has been funneled into ukraine
Original Fallout atmosphere was amazing: arid deserts and towns with ambient sounds you will remember forever, prostitution, drugs(not the fun ones), guns, gore, commonplace ugliness of places and people, derelict buildings, militaristic clans, mutated vermin and not nice place to live in in general. The 'new' Fallouts were more like a place to start an interesting adventure not the depressing barren wastelands of the old... yours truly, Boomer
The main ones I dislike the most are Fallout 4 & 76. Fallout 3 was the best FO game Bethesda made IMHO. It’s diverse design & worldspaces are my favorite to his day.
@@floatingscrib I would disagree, comparatively to the Bethesda games. I'll admit it is nowhere near the absolutely dreadful atmosphere of the first, but its still there. You don't know fear if you never get caught by an enclave patrol as a lvl 5 wandering the map, and the last save was an hour ago
@@CausticSpace I would disagree. Fallout 2 easily sits behind Fallout 3 in terms of having that barren wasteland atmosphere. Most locations in Fallout 2 have a decent level of social development. People in Fallout 3 still have issues with getting clean water. Enclave patrols only occur near Navarro. The game does a good job at directing you to where it wants you to go such that every new location is appropriate to your level. Either you're traveling south deliberately looking for trouble or you really are just wandering aimlessly.
The main questline is apparently finished and there will be a christmas release of the latest version which has it implemented (for patreon subscribers). Side quests are not they're next on the list. Not sure I'll play it, Tibbets is incredibly tedious to go through so i guess i'll wait for the full release, but it's good to know the project is not dead.
So apparently they have decided to lock access to the mod behind their patreon until development is finished because, and I quote, "a RU-vidr with a big audience made a review of the game and made a series of incorrect statements about it. So [the development team] decided to resume work on the game in privacy and peace to ensure we focus on the game development" Gee I wonder who they could _possibly_ be referring to LMAO
There are two types of modders, the ones who update their mod regularly and respond to every bug related question and then there’s these kinds, the ones who can’t handle criticism and remove their mods over it instead of just fixing it like a normal person
I think game would look better without Tactics and some other games sprites, they are not bad, but feel really out of place. 1.5 and Nevada rely on models from F2 and it didn't hurt them at all.
bro honestly the Joshua running around calling dismembered corpses names should be kept, dont patch it please its hilarious and cursed at the same time
In the somewhat distant future 2253 A.D. There was a guy named Joel Not too different from you or me He worked at Tibbets Institute Just another face in a blue jumpsuit He did a good job cleaning up the place But his bosses didn't like him so they threw him into jail!
the goddamn sprites for the characters when you speak to them look fantastic. Im sure you know, but the original ones were for the most part, claymations. It's hard to pull off that charmingly eerie looking feel, but it got really close to it.
16:57 "As long there are differences etc", it seems like a quote from Master in Fallout 1, he says exactly same lines. So if its same person, it just an homage
Huh, I just realized that the characters with talking heads seem to be using FO4's vault suit model in tibbets prison. I guess since unlike the 3 or NV style which more looked like a Jumpsuit the FO4 one looks closer to the original style being more skintight. not as skin tight as the originals though, those were practically body paint.
The traits screen is interesting, since most of the options are drawn from two pretty unusual sources. Alot look like they're from Arcanum, like Highwayman Background (called Bandit in Arcanum). Others seem to come from Fallout: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure, a version of Fallout 1 back when it was still based on GURPS. A page on the fallout wiki lists alot of info about this version, including the list of advantages and disadvantages some of which show up here as traits.
So to solve the mystery of "What's up with the start screen art?" it's actually something made using either Poser or Daz Studio. Both are 3D modeler programs. I don't know how to describe it any better than that . . . the best way I can put it is that it's like old school G.I Joes or Barbies in a sense? Like you can edit whatever model that you have into a different character, fully dress them, pose them, put them in a specific scene, and then you have the actual program make a render of that scene. It's essentially an art program of sorts. There is a lot you can do with it. Anyway the "armor" they used is called "V.A.P Grim for Genesis 3". The rabbit hole is there if you want to dive into it.
@@astr0cade Forget about it. Isometric view is a limited feature for 2D games. Free camera is the one that's thriving in games like Baldur's Gate 3. Even that game came with isometric view. Devs know that free cameras are the way to go, it allows for much better views however you look at it.
Funny enough I’ve actually played the originals and the only issue I had with it was me being Big dumb brain stupid and the game bullying me for being dumb. Gotta say good times.
I heard "Izbushka" (Избушка) And immediately backed video a few seconds, heard it again Pure joy and pleasant warmth for my slavic ears As always, your reviews are great!
Going from the puffy barbie doll looking talking heads to the highly detailed Sonora talking heads is really weird. Why didn’t they just make talking heads for those guys too ? I’m assuming they are used as placeholders for the time being. I hope the mod can be better polished in the future since the mix mash of Sonora/Tactics/classic art assets just makes the whole game feel really off putting.
Unfortunately, those talking heads aren't placeholders and while art of Alexander Berezin (the guy that made all Sonora talking heads, sprites e.t.c) is used in Yesterday, those are just models from others projects like Sonora and Olympus and some of them look really out of place.
Because making this talking heads takes time and money DUH.. I believe people who are actually made Sonora and Nevada were not involved in making of Yesterday, it was just one guy. Similarities with sprites may occur from developers solidarity and familiarity with one another from old times and NMA threads
Gabrielle looks like a Poser model taken from one of those bad 3D porn games, and Robb looks like somebody wanted to try making the Gigachad meme. Angela looks alright, but the lighting is way too harsh on her, like she's standing in front of a spotlight. They definitely feel off when put next to the Sonora heads. Graham looks very good, though, and the old lady looks well done.
Remember i was so happy hearing about Fallout 3 but also thought a Fallout in first Person would be amazing. Then they canceled the old version and i was pissed but they made a first Person Fallout 3 Had the same with GTA also btw played the first 2 GTA's and thought it would be crazy to play that in first Person...here we go
Everything about Tibbets displayed here is unique to the mod and isn't in the design Documents. The Tibbets documents are very barebones. The Fort Abandon documents were never released at all. It looks like the modder got bored and wondered off in September 2022.
I'm glad that someone knowledgeable plays these. So I don't have to. What a loss, especially considering the aftermath. But Fallout is like that impossible rose on a dung heap. Looks and smells great. On its own, and while alive...
I recently played fallout BOS for the Xbox, and really enjoyed it. I had never even heard of it back then. I also tried to re-play the original Elder Scrolls and it was completely broken. (On steam, my old pc only shoots dust when I turn it on lol)
I always found the idea that "RPGs were too complex for console gamers" given JRPGs, while niche outside of Final Fantasy, had a dedicated following and many of them had just as many obtuse mechanics and at least in America served as an introduction to RPGs in general. I mean, personally, it it wasn't for falling in love with fantasy games because of Final Fantasy IV (or II when I played it on the SNES), I probably wouldn't have ever played Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate I on PC.
I think it's because in Van buren Joshua Graham supposed to be hanged, therefore the hanged man nickname I could be wrong, try checking the Joshua Graham Van buren Wiki page
At 16:56 did I just hear DR. Moreau? Like Richard Moreau, aka Richard Grey aka The Master from fallout 1? Edit: Yup answered my own question ten seconds later into the video lol.
I liked it but it didn’t make sense to me I thought van Buren was set a while before the events of the first battle of Hoover dam so I always assumed that If Graham was going to be very different in van Buren then it would mean we likely get to see how evil he truly was while he was a legate in the legion or maybe we see the end of his time in the legion and the beginning of his redemption to god man that would’ve been even cooler to see
The idea of running with a freshly burned Joshua that hasn't refound his faith yet, therefore still a formidable evil bastard and getting to see that earlier side of him is badass.
It sounds cool when you know what Joshua turns into but this character also just kinda sucks. Joshua is interesting because of his compelling view on life and without that he's not really anything.
@@hedgehog3180 And all of that did not only come from after he was burned. He was a Follower of the Apocalypse, a learned man and alot of things before he was burnt. So not sure what you mean.
@@nilsingvar7319In a properly developed game we’d see how he comes to terms with what has happened. It would be fascinating, as his followers instincts blend with his legion ruthlessness, when coupled with what he believes to be a miracle, you have the recipe for the complex character we see in Honest Hearts.
"The community should come together, and through a combination of begging, Patreon donations and threats make him build a Van Buren for us" is hands down my favorite conclusion both in and out of context for any video I've seen so far.
I fully support begging the man, giving him lots of money and threatening to tell the Russian government he's gay if it means getting a fallout van Buren from him 🤣 hopefully we just need the begging and patron donations though. I don't really want to threaten the legend lol
This mod seems decent. I definitely love Van Buren largely for it's plot elements and super interesting design documents, although who's to really say how much of that would've actually made it into the final game had it had happened, but I also gotta say I absolutely adore the graphical style Van Buren's tech demo had at least. I really would've loved to have seen the game proper.

@@montanablackhardcorefan6974 I do think Bethesda is gonna make Fallout 5 in the creation 2 engine which while it may be named after the renamed gamebryo engine it’s a separate engine.
@@montanablackhardcorefan6974 "the publishers just have to dare again The thing is, everyone who created the OG Fallout and was passionate about the project has nothing to do with the Fallouts Bethesda does. I've been disappointed since Fallout 4 with how bright and flashy the wasteland has become. "A lot of people like to watch these videos, but never play these games" I feel personally attacked. Well done as always, almost up to a full day playlist of Fallout mod reviews from you to watch when doing work
Honestly to answer the question of why we like watching these: because watching good stories is just like watching a good Fallout themed movie. Some of those games, like Sonora - have better stories than most movies out nowadays. While bad mods like this... well, they're like watching a comedy with a commentator making fun of stupid shit and in your case - also talking about the lore, the original ideas and comparisons, which is great.

You were never really intended to keep 1000s of caps all at once. The idea was always that you would be bartering and exchanging items as your main form of currency, and the caps were something of a "sweetener" or "cherry on top" kind of thing to help facilitate the trade. Like, I've got 10 Nuka Colas and want to trade them for 2 stim-paks... but you feel that those stim packs are worth 12 nuka colas. I only have the ten nuka colas that I could find in that old building so how about 10 nuka colas and 20 caps? Deal! But it being an RPG, caps sort of became like gold coins from other fantasy RPGs. I'd kind of like to see RPG economies toned down some, it is often just comical how much currency one can carry about...
@Shia Lebeouf: Life Coach That’s why when I play 3 and NV now I sell suitable goods to suitable merchants - especially after playing Outer Worlds as they have that same system in the game. In my play through on NV now I decided to do a hardcore run, I’m actually pretty down on caps as usually I have about an average of 40k by the time I’m on the level I’m at (Lvl. 23 I think) but most of the caps I get are spent on repairing my gear and getting myself patched up. I’ve been trying to minimise my cap count as much as possible, even going as far to stash caps in different locations as it would make far more sense for a wasteland wanderer to hide their wealth; rather than carry every single drop of it lol. Forgot to add that most of the weapons and ammo I get is from trading and I don’t sell spare ammo anymore, I convert all of it into more useful rounds or just break them down for parts to make rounds in the future; hardcore has actually been good in teaching me that those reload and work benches are useful as hell.
End game weapons actually cost thousands of caps, so I don't see why a player wouldn't carry such sums of money. Cap currency is just a ridiculous idea, and it's not just about carrying thousands of caps in your pockets. If goddamn bottle caps exist in enough numbers to be usable as currency why not just use actual pre war money? Not to say that caps are easier to fake and produce illegally than actual coins or banknotes.
Yeah but then you get into realism for the sake of realism and you have to ask yourself, is this fun? Does this add anything to the experience? The reality is "immersive" systems hinder experiences, it's a novelty the first couple of times but navigating them while just wanting to get back to the actual game is annoying and intrusive. Trading already sort of works like that anyway, paying money and having whatever extra items you don't need to add to the overall trade value.
@@OryxAU it's more fun. I modded my NV recently to give everything weight and lower carry capacity, and trading has been more involved and more exciting. I've been building weapon repair kits, repairing high value items (like Assault Carbines) and then using them as barter for the ammo I need (explosives, so 40mm is expensive). It's more fun to me because I can picture in my imagination the deal, rather than seeing it as buying something off Amazon using a money value
The Hub merchants selected bottle caps because of two factors: First, the technology to manufacture them and paint their surfaces had been mostly lost in the Great War, which limited any counterfeiting efforts: The paint used, machining, and metal type all have to be very specific in order for a bottle cap to be genuine. Second, there is a limited number of bottle caps, which preserves their value against inflation to some degree. Finally, the Hub merchants in New California could support it as a common unit of exchange by backing it with water.

31:40 This hurts. If you think the classic Fallout modding scene is a mess, you should check out how bad Fallout 13 is on the BYOND engine. FO13 has fractured into many different little projects, all of which have ended poorly since it's almost impossible to find someone who both knows how to competently code in BYOND and isn't a complete lunatic. All that really stands out from the ashes are sprites, some of which came from me since I got my start in spriting on Wasteland 13. Lot of unfulfilled dreams there.
