They do have powers of a constable in and around the port under the; Harbours, Docks, and Piers Clauses Act 1847.

@The Fierce Urgency Of Martin they are not governed by the normal rules applicable to ' normal' police they dont come under the home office control, they dont have ANY senior officers, the most senior officer of them is basicaly the sgt you saw as the most senior officer, they do come under iopc...sort of...but they are governed and controlled by the company operating the dock and are used by them as security officers duties for the dock, if they want a pension they have to fund it themselves privately and they are paid their salaries at the amount the docks operators state in line with legislation that applies basicaly...security officers in all but appearance realy.

He doesn't have to they are a private police servise.

they basicaly dont have anyone in charge other than the sergeant, they only have 4 pc and then the sergeant, falmouth is the smallest ports/docks police service, they are sworn in as special constables and then thats it, they basicaly are security officers unbadged by sia who wear police uniforms and insignia. people dont seem to realise that falmouth police arnt what you can call normal run of the mill police offiucers as yes they have the same powers as a constable due to being sworn in as special constables but thats where it ends realy.

Ports do tend to have byelaws which are attached to Ports and Harbours laws, so can result in a hefty fine, but I don’t believe there is a byelaw against filming, like Military Lands Byelaws can result in arrests

@@TheGwentAuditorTGA I had a quick check of all the byelaws that ABP have on their website and none had anything about filming or photography. It was mentioned on ABP's rules but that's not a byelaw. And it's a stupid document as it says things like "all children should be supervised" but doesn't define what a child is.

You are legally required to provide identification to the Falmouth docks, due to the fuel storage at the other end of the docks. Bare in mind it's also a military vessel dock so there has to be a specific procedure for those. All in all the docks police can be goofballs and I've had my fair share of arguments with a few of them but those rules are put in place in case there is a terrorist threat as If those fuel storage units go up in flames it will take half of Falmouth with it along with thousands of lives.

As for filming, you are allowed to film outside the docks and fly a drone outside the docks viewing the inside of the docks, you were very unprofessional about how you filmed them though and could've handled it alot better. Especially after seeing how grumpy they are. It all links back to terrorism, if any of these images get into the wrong hands they will get used for vandalism, protests etc etc.

@@quest3033 Drones can fly over the docks. As for filming inside the property boundary, you would have a case if TGA had gone well into the docks. But at the gate, even if a few feet past the boundary - nope. It's not up to the public to handle grumpy police, police must be professional at all times. And your point about the images getting into the wrong hands - shut down Google NOW!

It used to be an old saying that old or found out bent copper’ were sent to police the docks, but most docks have a port police system in operation. But in the 50’s the dockers had some great scams going at the time that we’ll beat the coppers. One was a docker was seen walking out of the docks every night and the cop on the gate said what have you got in your wheelbarrow, the docker said nothing and showed the cop an empty wheelbarrow. Many months the cop was in the bridewell where he saw wheelbarrow man, the cop said to the other cop what have you arrested this guy for, his reply was for knocking off wheelbarrows !!!! He had been doing it for years along with many other dockers.

I believe they have limited powers of arrest to things only related to the docks. For instance, they can’t arrest for section 5 public order offences, and so on.
