Remembering how someone wrote something similar under a Kingdom Hearts fanart a while ago, where the accuser pointed out that the artist drew Mickey Mouse with only four fingers in comparison to Sora, therefore it would be an indicator for an AI generated image. Felt like sour taste satire. Whatever the indication was, they deleted the comment after facing criticism by others

I ran into this somewhat recently. My spouse had commissioned some art that, at a glance, ticked a lot of “AI art” boxes, but my initial response was to look closer, make sure the styles matched, look for WIPs, timelapses, etc. There was definite guilt for having suspected it, and a growing dread that this suspicion is so reflexive even being an artist myself. My only consolation is I didn’t make these concerns public, as I didn’t want to risk damaging the artist’s credibility if they were legitimate.

One of my biggest issues from AI "art" and "writing" is that because it steals common things from real people, it's really... devalued human art in my eyes a bit. In the sense that I can't quite enjoy it like I used to, if that makes sense? The mass production of fake art really takes away from the delight in seeing even real art trends. It's a struggle to be into something made by an artist that isn't so complex a current day AI really can't imitate it, and it sucks.

I was accused of using AI months ago because of a design I made, because supposedly what I painted couldn’t possibly be made by a human. This person harassed me and my friends for days. It was a nightmare. I tried to provide evidence and explain what I did and they wouldn’t stop with their BS. It’s come to the point that I no longer strive for my art to look polished and good so that people won’t accuse me of this again, which feels like a step back in my progress to me (I’ve been painting for over 15 years)

7:11 this is why. (Not saying it’s right, just pointing out why someone might still suspect it’s AI) There’s a super talented artist who’s content I get recommended again and again who physically draws on paper and shows the process from start to finish, but the “inspiration” image they’re using is very obviously AI, without disclosing that anywhere. They confirmed it once in a roundabout way in a reply to a comment in a sea of comments, so it’s not just a suspicion. I also never personally engaged with the content, but it does make me sad every time I see it.

I second-guess so many artworks now because of AI and I hate it. I want to go back go the time where I didn't have to closely inspect an artwork to see if it's AI or not. And I knew as soon as AI started to become a problem, I knew that false AI accusations would follow and it really sucks And every time I make a mistake in my art, like I forget to carry on a line in the background, or I mess up the hands, I worry that someone might think my art is AI because of it. Kinda makes me glad that i could never easily adapt to digital art. No matter what program i download, no matter the equipment i can afford, something about switching to digital is way too overwhelming for me compared to traditional art. All of the pen types, layers, equipment, line widths...its just too much for my adhd and ocd! Give me a number 2 pencil and a sketchbook and i am far more relaxed and able to produce some, 5 out of 10 level quality (always room for improvement), works that i then take a snapshot of because i can't afford a scanner/printer, and post it on deviantart. Though at the same time i want to get into making silly videos for youtube without stealing Noodle's schtick with paper puppets on a popsicle stick. So i need to somehow overcome that hurdle. Believe me though i truly feel bad about digital artists being accused of using AI and wish i could weigh in with a suggestion that isn't just "switch to traditional".

Your video unintentionally helped the conspiracy theory minded people. The reason conspiracy theories are so successful is (while obviously a multitude of additional reasons) laregly in part because people want to feel smarter about something. Like they're able to see the truth while others cant. So take that, plus a bit of the Dunning-Krueger effect, and the want to catch a villain, and you get a bunch of people calling out everything as ai.

A pet peeve of mine is when people claim to detect AI art by “looking at the choices made in the piece and thinking if a real human would do that.” I kind of get it, but also- that’s so subjective! How can you know exactly what every human artist would be thinking while they are drawing? It comes off as pretentious and poorly researched.

I'm glad someone is talking about this! People don't seem to realize how that can ruin an artist's reputation or how insulting that is in this day and age. Personally, I've recently seen so many people in the Warrior Cats fandom falsely accusing that a cover artist for a graphic novel (Tigerstar and Sasha) used ai and it's just awful. Artists falsely accusing other artists seems counterintuitive because I would imagine that is something ai bros want to happen to prove their points.

I would also like to say that a good way to prove your innocence is through showing your art meta-data. This is the data about the image such as time taken, date made and last updated, colour type or every brush stroke. For example Procreate would be under Canvas Information, I believe all programs have this automatically and there isn’t really a way to turn it off if I’m away of. You could take a screen shot of these or a video of you going on it from the piece, AI doesn’t really know this exists right now and what this looks like on each program. I recommend you look up how to find this on each program since I don’t know how to find them on anything other then procreate (For procreate press the wrench then tap canvas, at the bottom it would say canvas information and you click that) , I don’t think many know about this so there isn’t anyone trying copy it for AI.

Gotta point out algorimic art has been around for decades, but it used to require someone to know a bit of math before they created it, & it was based on math alone, not on other peoples' art. That last bit is the problem: the newer systems are based on other peoples' still-copyrighted works. Older style fractal mountain ranges & abstracts are fine, & kinda cool to look at.

Since when is it such a thing in the art community to blindly accuse other people of things, forcing them to put out a statement, only to accuse them of lying? I feel like people just took a basic societal rule and threw it out of the window. Firstly, you don't accuse others for no reason, secondly, you don't lie, and lastly, you have trust that the other person is telling the truth.

I've been accused of using AI for my art multiple times and I make it a point to never show proof until they've shown proof first. Usually by this point they'd fold and I've never had to provide proof to anyone I don't use AI to this day. I don't even record timelapses. I think many AI accusers are just sad trolls who wanna bully others behind a screen. Most of the time just standing up for yourself is enough for them to back off. In my case they usually delete their comments and/or block me, it's honestly hilarious.

It's times like these that I am infinitely grateful that I was so obsessed with how beautiful, expressive, and versatile hands can be back when I started doing art. I put a ton of effort into drawing hands before AI came out and it's served me well. Also, I guess it helps that I draw in a style (bold, clean lines and cel shading) and subject matter (robots that MUST have almost pixel perfect construction and symmetry to look right) that AI still struggles very hard with. I have made a habit of making time lapse of all my full pieces though, just to have evidence to quash any accusations.

Demanding that artists prove they drew something beyond taking screenshots of the art program kinda screws over anyone using a less robust drawing app. Like, I use Sketchbook (the free version) on a fairly old tablet. Saving images as a png is my only option. Timelapses or the images themselves can get corrupted or accidentally deleted. It's just unreasonable for people to expect artists to provide so many layers of proof that they actually created their art.
@NUCLEARxREDACTED
@NUCLEARxREDACTED День назад
It is unreasonable, especially because A lot of these people don't give a damn about proof anyway. I do 3d modeling and rendering. I was accused of using AI, all because as far I can tell "Its obvious I didn't draw that." Which is just wild. But even when I give screen shots of the wire frame, of flat shading, or of the same exact model down the scratches on the paint, just viewed from a different angle. And the only response is "well you just had AI make these new images." To call their argument a bad faith position is an enormous understatement, barely scratching the surface of the sheer dishonesty at play.

Regarding accusing someone without proof: this is the whole nature of the cancel culture. People are too eager to jump on a train without actually looking into the case in detail or being aware of how it might ruin someone's life. Sadly, many realize that such lynch mobbing is very destructive only when they themselves or someone related to them become a victim of such behavior. No matter how many videos you make or write about it, humans simply do not learn. Empathy is rare.

watching this was really insightful i work with 2d and 3d materials and in 3d circles really passionate great 3d artists who build models but might not be able to rig or texture very well (cause 3d like any art form has people who are better at somethings more than others ) often get accused of being ai simply because of things like clipping errors being present or a model looking a bit too well textured. especially in the 3d character model circles. there was already alot of in fighting in some of those communities before ai cuz its a pretty common practice for there to be really well done publicly available rigs of popular characters most often used for college students or demo reels. there were communities that would in fight over whether a model was an original build based on another character or if it was just being passed off as one. soon as ai came into the mix there became alot more questions of "how do we know your just bad at doing X and not passing off a ai model " . the solution for them became to show the uv mapping. sort of like showing your file layers.

I don’t condone people using Ai art as their own, and I do believe to some degree they need to be called out on it. But at the end of the day it isn’t our job to police every individual we see who uses Ai art. The duplicating file and merging the layers in one file and keeping the layers in another file is a good advice. As someone who used to do screen video of my digital artwork process sometimes using another application for screen recording can make Photoshop app laggy, and had exported videos that when I play the video there are part of the process that was skipped, so it's kind of useless. Also, I had a low-end PC and sometimes had full storage space, that are also the problem. By making duplicate layers in every stage of the process is not just helpful for checking some changes you made but also as proof in situation where someone was accusing you of using AI references.

Gonna be real. It's gonna be impossible to see if someone uses AI or not. The only proof is to see a recording of them drawing (with their hand, not a recording of a speed drawing). Also, many more artists are now using ai and then fixing the mistakes of the ai and posting it, and no one can blame them for that, they make a quick bank with good art. If someone copies from an ai art and they are somewhat well versed in art, they can fix all of them mistakes and no one would realize that it was just a copy with some fixes here and there. I know there is a growing worry of AI speedpaints, but AI cannot properly replicate those references. Most of what I’ve seen is just like your traditional speedpaint but choppier and without any references. If you show your process all the way through, it should be fine right?

@@Æuvelity You know, I realized that there are a lot of artists out there that have some fk ups that make their art look ai. The only way to see if theyre legit is to see a live recording (with the hand), but who da fuq would do that to prove a point lmao. My main fear is that there are a lot of artists that are now using AI as a reference and fixing all the mistakes and showing the end piece as their own. I really don't know if that is acceptable, but I guess it is? You know what, is meaningless to discuss this lmao.

@@chok1169 you just define how realism kinda works lol. (Literally there's even a term for when you are copying a foto on a paper with your pencil) If there's someone who uses Ai for trace it and make it pase by their own thing 100/100 then that person should be really bored, because Ai has a lot of mistakes and the proccess of copying a picture is veeeery long. I recently realized a popular romace webtoon (even published) was ai and it definitely isn't in the "style" folks keep an eye out for. It is the common reincarnation art style. I only noticed because the ai modder got SUPER lazy in filtering out the obvious slop in the second story. The first comic hid it with letting the worst slop be on important text scenes. The second had a close up of obvious slop. Keeping it vague for the obvious reason.

Recently i saw someone with more knowledge on general photography and photoediting show how images are AI generated based pff the technicality of a peice and not the general appearance If you look past the general telltales of AI art and zoom in to images to see their pixels and noise textures its easy to spot. Ai images generate fake JPEG and general compression artifacts that do not make sense or match the format of the image, because of how some ai models were trained they took artifacts from given compressed images and adapted them into the model. This is how far ai has come, it takes knowing how image formats work on a technical level to tell when something is wrong.

Wouldn’t be a problem if people would stop being scared to learn the difference in art styles. You can make them all human, all AI, or use either to retouch a final product. Plus also fear in general of something new and fear of losing your job. We’ll learn to fix the problems with AI and you’ll have another job waiting for you. I enjoy doing videogame fanarts since I can remember and was always happy about the feedback in reddit comments or social media when I upload my work, but lately on many subreddits (especially on Nintendo and Zelda related ones) there is at least one user who just throw in a sassy "That looks like AI" comment in just on the basis of shallow aspects like sloppy rough pencil lineart or simplified hands like I always used to do when I draw chibi characters for instance (the typical glove or sphere like hands), and it makes me sad to think how many young artist and potential talents were nipped in the bud or got their motivation crushed just because people are carelessly trashing their hard work this way with empty words. And yeah, those people get quickly well-disposed as soon as you deliver some evidence, like posting GIFs or videos of short mid-progress recordings of the drawing process or by showing the layer hierarchy, but it's really sad we come to this point that genuine artists must provide extra steps of evidence to get their hard work be acknowledged as such... ...while at the same time, obvious AI grifters exists in parallel who get away unnoticed by the same accusers for some funny reason and get even complimented for "their talents of creating one beautiful high quality rendered pinup girl after the other" in form of frequent posts every few hours every day constantly without ever having to post a single sketch or video, while on top somehow convinced hundreds of users to buy their 300+ $ paywall generated literal sameface 6+finger pinup mishmash. The art world and industry already had its rough issues to deal with years ago but with AI it all accumulated into an even more overly exploitative, parasitic mess.

Sisterrrr same with me! I often forget to click screen record on my iPad (this was before ClipStudioPaint got their auto timelapse feature), it was so frustrating to get the full speedpaint footage because I then made myself draw for longer hpurs per session instead of taking frequent brakes (which did a number on my health 😭). And then having to import all that to laptop to edit. I thought CSP finally having timelapse like Procreate would be the end of my woes, and for a while it was, and then… freakin A.I. started to make timelapses and I just facepalm like ohmyGODD! Now it seem I’d have to go back to the previous speedpaint footage way just to be safe and for this same reason as the video, to have proof to disprove any accusations before they can even think about it. Hhh… oh my gosh.

The worst thing about AI is that it continues to improve, meaning it will only get harder for people to distinguish real art from AI-generated images. I have given up trying to filter out AI images when looking for art because it's just too exhausting. There are AI prompters--yes, not artists--PROMPTERS, using models trained on specific artists that have big followings on Twitter like Kittew, Asura, and ThiccWithAQ. And they are setting up goddamn patreons to sell their "work" which looks 99% identical to something those artists might make. We officially live in hell.

Like I've got 4tb of local storage and even with that Krita was eating up my free space due to how long I takes for me to create a drawing. Livestreaming is another option if you're into that sort of thing and doesn't tax your local storage. Unless we end up with some tech to prove authorship I think we're going to have to give up and just take things as given.

Whenever I see someone posting 'AI' I ask them to explain their reasoning. If they can't, then I will call them out for posting opinion as fact. Your suggestions of keeping layers and etc is similar to my suggestions for writers. Keep all your drafts. Thanks for the call to stop accusations. As you said, if you didn't hire the artist, it isn't your job to police the artist. Too many people with too much time on their hands trying to police the art world without the skills to do so. Even if you think you have the skill, it still isn't your job, and given how fast AI is changing, you probably don't have the skill either.

Is this what I've been missing-out on Twitter after I left like 2 years ago? Man, I feel sorry for anyone still on there. Never got this kind of abuse anywhere else, even when I was on Twitter. On the topic of the video, if I was constantly bombarded by these allegations I'd probably just end-up spinning it up as a joke eventually. Blurring the lines, and confusing the audience even more by mentioning, or teasing AI generated stuff (maybe even purposefully drawing bad hands), but never actually using it, or even better, advertising my art as "so good, people think it's made by an AI!". Probably just me though. Then again, I use vectors for all my art, and AI is just awful at replicating advanced vector techniques, so I have an easy out even if I get falsely accused. Though, I have to ask. How big is everyone's raw files? The biggest one I have is 500mb, but that's when I fist started drawing, and I've gotten much more efficient since. My average file size for these raw files now is closer to 30mb, and the final vector render is on average 0.5mb (the largest one being close to 2mb). And yet, even with close to 4 years worth of art, I can still fit all of it in a 64gb USB stick with about 10gb to spare. Bit of a brag sure, but I think it's also good to learn how to be efficient with these art programs like Krita, Photoshop, and Clip-studio to minimize disk usage on a project. It'll help a lot in the long run.

I haven't seen the previous video but that result is not very surprising. The problem is that to use the information properly you need a certain amount of expertise. That includes having enough expertise to be aware of when you are completely out of your depths. Unfortunately some people will take it to mean "after watching the video I am an expert at identifying AI art". The people who think false accusations are fine because the real ones can be proven are assholes. Those are the equivalent of a Denial of Service attack. Legitimate work has to be delayed to handle each false accusation.

Great video, very good sentiment. I am going to point out to be incredibly careful with what you use to record your screen and where you store that data. The same goes for those working files. Companies like google can and do scrape information from (for example) google drive. You might inadvertedly contribute to genAI getting to a point it can replicate screen recordings, too. I honestly think that we (I'm an artist too) shouldn't be playing this game with people demanding proof. I do not blame anyone who is upping their recordings and 'proof' but I'd rather stop sharing my art publicly than to start stressing out about all the ways bad faith actors will misconstrue my work. It's not worth the stress, and in a few years we might be out of ways to prove the negative. I happen to be someone that naturally keeps the working files of my art because I'm privileged enough to have the space for them. But it would be very sad if people felt pressured into adopting ways of working that don't fit with them as much. I think in the end I disagree with your conclusion that 'we shouldn't have to, but with how things are we have to, anyway'. I think we should refuse. But I also recognize that either choice has its own set of layered consequences and whichever an artist goes with I just hope it's the one that's best for them.
