Every rich person who's attitude is "Only the little people pay taxes" is the reason the deficit is so high. How can a person have a roof over their head, a driver, bodyguard, accountant, car and personal airplane and only pay $150 in tax - there has to be something crooked and *if you are not offended you are part of the problem* .

Actually, I think much of the blame can be laid at the doors of governments everywhere which stupidly create ludicrously complex taxation systems that very good accountants can easily circumvent. Smart governments have very simple, flat tax systems which are almost impossible to fiddle. If Western countries like the US and UK just said everyone and every company pays 20% flat tax, the cash income would go through the roof and the evasion would disappear!

@@dougm659 As an accountant I agree wholeheartedly - realistically, a GST/VAT/Consumption tax on everything is probably the most equal tax, for 10% tax, an avg. car at $50k has $5k tax and the Million Dollar Luxury car has $100k tax, and the avg man wont have a "barn" full. Does away with all the "loopholes".

@@BeegirlsHoneyHouse Bezos had an idea that no one else had and worked in obscurity for years before his vision became a reality. In a capitalist economy, we supposedly treasure that. I am not saying he should be as wealthy as he is because great wealth produces abuses. Just check out our politics! Still, any job offered by an employer should only be offered at a liveable wage. Otherwise, employment is just another form of slavery.

Pay people higher wages, they will have enough money to spend AND save! When 1% of the Rich in America, 777 billionaires and over 3,300,000 Millionaires, pay their fair share, it comes out to $ Quadrillions in tax revenue. If EVERYONE pays what they should, we would NOT have to be asking or penny pinching when we should have more to run our government with. $1 Quadrillion is 1,000 Trillion. Biden's Rescue plan was $1.3 Trillion, his Infrastructure plan was $1.3 Trillion, his Family plan was $1 Trillion as well. We should still have $996 Trillion remaining for other expenditures.

That story about getting groceries delivered by the Park Lane Hotel, but the one time the maid buys something local and asks for reimbursement and told told, "You bought it, you pay for it.", really reminds you why Leona was the Queen of Mean. And, like with Trump, just one of thousands of looks under the hood at corrosive greed.

One cannot at once claim to be _”PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN”_ , or a _”PATRIOT”_ *and* avoid the privilege to be able to contribute their fair share. If one were _really_ proud to be an American, he or she would be equally proud to provide some of that patriotism to the _Cause of an Idea_ about making one nation - of, by, and, for - all of us. It’s like no other in the world. But from the very beginning it was understood that _Liberty_ isn’t “free”. Liberty takes the willingness of her people to sustain her. Therefore, those who avoid their singular contribution - and obligation - *ARE THE REAL FREELOADERS* because they only take what wasn’t given them.

What I hàve noticed is everyone around him willing puts their heads on the chopping block for him . From the rich to the poor willing will lose all for him . It's like watching the kids doing whatever to be apart of the IT club. Just my thoughts. Having a criminal history seems to give street cred to some and some people still will flock to that person especially if they have decades of getting away with it.

Leona Helmsley served 21 months in prison. Her attorney was Alan Dershowitz. Hmmmm. I remember the TV movie made about her titled "Leona Helmsley: Queen of Mean". For a time she owned the Empire State Building and several Manhattan hotels. However, she'll be forever remembered for her quote: "We don’t pay taxes; only the little people pay taxes." That was in 1989 and what she said still holds true today 🤔

I worked for a landlord many years ago doing maintenance during the summer. It was off-campus student housing, and he owned a number of apartment buildings. I learned after the job ended that I wasn't eligible for unemployment compensation because he had me listed as a "contractor," and I thus was not an employee. He also didn't have to pay any employment taxes or any other kind of insurance that an employer would be required to provide. Another landlord in the same town would keep students' security deposits for the flimsiest reasons. If there was tape on a door he would replace the entire door and charge students full price for a new one. He eventually got in trouble for discriminatory rental practices. I left the town long ago, and wonder what ever became of him. He was a pilot, owned his own plane, and I think he crashed and died. So many jerks, it's hard to remember them all.

I worked for Helmsley Office leasing. My office cubby was next to Craig, Leona’s grandson. His office was wall to wall playboy centerfolds on the wall.He went to my boss and accused me of stealing from his office. My boss didn’t didn’t believe him for a minute.

I worked for a family owned business in the 70s, father the owner and son the general manager. The accountant once told me, "the company pays for everything, the Rogers (the owners) don't even buy their own toilet paper."

So why haven't rules been changed/tighten so that people can not do this? Everyone who paid next to nothing in taxes should have their taxes and such looked at with a fine tooth comb. This outrageous. These loopholes need to be closed.

Convicted of 33 felonies, Helmsley only served 18 months and paid something like $8 million in fines but then went back to her billionaire life - business as usual. Just like Martha Stewart and Charles Kushner. The rich are never humiliated or suffer from punishment commensurate with the many people they've hurt. Madoff being the exception

Don't I know! My Reagan-steeped Republican accountant / tax-preparer insisted that 'everything' was deductible. When IRS audits revealed that 'not everything' was deductible, who paid the penalty? I did! Beware who you trust!

The ultra low enforcement, ultra-low sentences (compared to theft or embezzeling) and ultra-selective prosecution make tax evasion for the ultra rich expected and worthwhile.

And it’s now 2021 and the recent news story is billionaires aren’t paying taxes. Including some of the richest people in the world. And so the USA is going down down down. And it all started in the 1980’s.
