Families share testimony to Alabama Prison Oversight Committee

Members of the Legislative Prison Oversight Committee heard from multiple families Wednesday in Montgomery who detailed horror stories of their sons, nephews and fathers brutally attacked, raped and killed in Alabama's prisons.
All said they understood someone paying a price for a crime, but they should not pay with their life.

I tried to report abuse on behalf of an inmate. I contacted the ADOC . Within 24 hours of me contacting the ADOC, the inmate asked me to withdraw my complaint because a captain at the facility threatened him if I went any further with my concerns.

The prison system needs to be investigated completely and restructured. If they really wanted to rehabilitate and keep the prisons safe. They would do something about the massive drugs brought in by guards. Not allowing families to be there when their family member is dying are heartless and should be revised. My son too was attacked by another inmate and nothing was done. He was laced with something and almost died. I didn't know he was sent to medical unit until he called later to tell me. He asked the nurse and warden to contact me, but they did not. All prisons need an overhaul because they are for profit. I hate to say this but many of the people looked disinterested when she began to talk about race and the injustice of those individuals. All inmates should matter because they are loved and many was young and committed crimes that they can be rehabilitated with the right intervention. I pray for all those that lost loved ones and pray that I don't have to endure the reality one-day.

Not meaning to sound cynical but those people on the panel,parole board,ADOC officials and Ivey could honestly careless about the prisoners nor their families. All the words fell on deaf ears 😢

Fky high Daniel Williams, Brandon, Christopher and many others sending love and prayers to all the families. What happened to Daniel is sick no nobody should through the hell that kid went through. He was kidnapped from his pod while the guards watched he was sa he was tortured he was tied up then found unconscious alone they dragged his body to the gaurds and they warden still waited a whole day before calling for help the warden needs to sit behind his own bars for a couple of weeks and so does the gaurds that allowed all of this happened. Daniel isnt the first and he will not be the last this has got to stop. To many babies are growing without their fathers and mothers because of stupid sh*t behind bars.

To Christophers family im so sorry what Christipher went through he shouod have been home with his family watched your interview on the wire it broke my heart what Chris and Daniel went through one with two weeks and one with two years its hurtful but the pain we feel is way different than what Christopher and Daniel went through the last days of their lives. I know they were terrified and begging for help and it hurts not being able to help them it hurts your soul sending love and strength and prayers to the families involved.

They are not gonna do anything to stop what goes on in prison they are the ones leting this happen warden and guards they do not care about the inmates, they should be in jail and the drugs coming into the prison would stop and that would help 100 percent
