"I believe that motherhood is an ongoing process of nurturing. You've got to take care of yourself and you also have to take care of others. And so what better way to showcase that than to give moms an opportunity to help other mothers in need, a portion of all proceeds benefit homeless moms and also children that don't have access to food."

STORYLINE:
Families in Houston spent Mother’s Day with the person who taught them to walk.
In Texas on Sunday, dozens celebrated by taking a walk with their mom.
About 250 people went out for the first annual Mother's Day Walk at the Houston Botanical Garden.
Gray skies threatened to rain out the event, but a short 30 minute spurt of showers didn't keep people from enjoying their commune with nature.
Ponchos, umbrellas and covered areas kept people in good spirits, Justin Lacey, the communications director, said.
And walks around the 2.1 miles of trail resumed after the brief weather event.
Myra Johnson, the creative director behind the event, envisioned the event after she began using Mother's Day to give back to her community through volunteering.
A portion of the proceeds from the event were donated to local nonprofits that help families in crisis.
Leslie Schroder said this Mother's Day is a very special one because she lost her mom and this is her first Mother's Day without her mom.
