www.GovLiquidat... - If you have a strong foundation, hardworking employees and a lot of grit, your family business will never run out of steam.
That’s one of the many things we learned from Nick Reuter, Director of Sales and Acquisitions at his family’s business, Power Mechanical, Inc.
Nick explained, “What we do, is we take these systems, fix them up, and then turn them into racecars essentially. So, we will take this boring boiler, we’ll slim it down, we’ll put all these custom features on it, we’ll make it fit into a shipping container better, and we’ll package all of the auxiliary systems into that same shipping container- it’s a very special machine when it leaves here.”
The boilers seem to be a hot item. Rick Reuter, President of Power Mechanical, Inc., told us that the business started off with a couple people- now they have 100 employees and 50 trucks!
As most small business owners know, you have to turn less into more to make your business grow, “When you’re coming from humble beginnings, you have to buy things used. You have to take surplus and make it work. It has created a culture of that here that is not only a huge part of our family, it’s also a part of our employees. We call it being scrappy.” Nick said.
Being scrappy means making smart choices, Nick told us, “GovLiquidation has definitely been an instrumental part in our growth. It’s a part of who we are as people. We don’t buy things new, we don’t waste money, we would not be here at this level if we wouldn’t have made purchasing decisions like buying things from auctions and government surplus.”
To support their growing business, the Reuters have used GovLiquidation to buy: tooling, welding machines, Conex boxes, boilers, chillers and two 50,000lb Caterpillar Forklifts.
GovLiquidation, and being scrappy, has opened many doors for this family business, “If we had to buy the things that we bought from GL brand new, they would have cost tens of millions of dollars easily. They would have been too expensive for us to buy.” Nick explained.
It’s not all about being scrappy, it also takes hard working and dedicated employees to grow a business. Nick told us, “In terms of grit, this place is something different, you know. We work real hard.”
For us, it’s inspiring to see a family business flourish, especially one that is so humble and hardworking like Power Mechanical, Inc.
Nick had one more thing to say, “If you’re willing to work and be a little bit creative, some really great things can happen for you and for the people around you. This place is definitely an example of that. It’s a manifestation of the idea that you don’t have to have a lot of money to make something.”
