Oh my goodness. I feel like you're my homeschool sister! Going through all your videos and the only things I don't have on my list bc I'm still researching are the science and phonics. (We currently use CHC for my first grader and TGAB for my preschooler.) I've been eyeballing more nature journaling and herbal studies type materials (those listed by Salt & Light-- love the religion book recommendations she has too).
Aw I am glad my videos are helping!! Welcome homeschool sister!! Nature journaling is my toughest subject to be consistent. I’ve been eyeballing salt and light studies too, let me know how you like them if you get them.
Your videos are so helpful! It's been hard to find Catholic homeschool community and I really appreciate getting this look into what your family does. We are listening to story of civilization vol 4 this summer, but not as a full study, and then going into ancients in the fall with story of civ and connecting with history. I definitely look forward to a future review of your experience with into the deep. I will be needing family style catechesis in the coming years and this seems like a great option. BFSU seems overwhelming but good? We are really liking Elemental Science Intro to science for K-1
I am so happy my videos have been helpful to you! It is very tough to find a Catholic homeschooling community, thanks for letting me be a part of yours. BSFU is a bit prep intensive, but the community website and the Facebook group is sooo helpful. I take an afternoon once a term and print and prep the lessons and worksheets people have created on the group. I request library books and buy supplies that are needed on that day too. I read over the lessons the morning of, during breakfast. If you want more info or help in BSFU, send me an IG message and I’d be happy to help!
Fantastic video. There are so few Catholic homeschoolers on RU-vid so your contact is greatly appreciated. I’m new to homeschool and if fact only now beginning to implement a morning time basket at the start of our day. Is this something you do? If so can you consider doing a video?
I am so glad my videos can help you! Welcome to homeschooling, I may be biased but it is the best! 😉 We do a very small morning time routine, it’s essentially prayer-read aloud- catechesis/liturgical living. Then we move onto our shared studies. Then single studies after that. I will work on getting a daily school routine video up soon!
Have you done all the years of story of civilization? I have been eyeing it. I have a 1st grader and k4 this upcoming year and honestly have no clue when to start history! I also saw they have the story of the Bible but wasn't sure if that comes before SOC
I have done levels 1-3 of SOC, we are going to start level 4 in a month or so. We have loved every level. After we finish level 4, I plan on just cycling back through and adding different read alouds and learning opportunities. We haven’t don’t the Bible version, it does not need to be done in a specific order with SOC. It’s separate. We may just listen to the audio just to listen, at one point in the future. My oldest started history SOC level 1 at first grade and my middle started pretty much right along with her at 4 years. Obviously less has been retained by him, but that’s why I’ll cycle through. They have such a vast variety of materials that it can be different each time- from the activity book to the test book for older grades. The audio version is a must IMO. You can buy it in the pack, or sometimes find it through your library on hoopla!
We are also doing SOC volume 4. I never thought of pairing it with TGTB government & constitution course, which I also can't wait to get to, 😄. I hope your year goes well. It looks like lovely plans.
