I'm not white but, when I heard that, I rolled my eyes and thought, "Steve, you're not like this!"; after a bit I realized he's definitely talking about historical white people, because he has many old white celebrity friends, and just reminisced about what he thought when he was a kid. The clue is that Shakespeare is not an "old" white man, but a historical white man, as deceased people are not talked about by their age.
