When I lived in NYC, I had Russian neighbors who went through this. We heard them through the thin walls. A friend/neighbor translated the conversation for me since I don’t speak the language.
My grandma was always fascinated when it came to new technology. She didn't understand a single thing about it but she bought a huge, high-end TV for herself (and still just watched some old people shows), she was sitting near her washing machine and watched it doing the work she did for 60 years and she was stunned when my dad bought a small, mobile projector and we watched a movie on our garage door 😂

As an Italian, this is scarily accurate. If you want it even worse, be in an Italian family with a German mother. All the anger, plus coldness and seething resentment at no extra cost!
This is fairly accurate, especially southern Italy grandmas. Don't expect they'll play along like here, but this is exactly how they act when you touch their favourite (usually the youngest) sons. It can be a bit frustrating to say the least.
my Grandma was similar but it getting her to text, she absolute would not retain any information on your her cell for texting. now that she has moved out she has finally figured it out.
I am mediterranean (Spanish), my mom is too, but she doesn't speak english, I'll give you the trick to convince your mediterranenan mama: just need to tell her with a lot of love that the tablet is very expensive and it's for her as a gift to make things easier for her, becuase it's easier for her to read because the screen is bigger, she can also have facebook, put her series, book, make calls and put the news, and she doesn't need small finguers to use it. But first you gotta tell her that it's expensive, otherwise it won't do it.
Mom, is an Austrian from right near the Italian border. My dead sister could come back, take a dump on the carpet and she'd have it bronzed along with everything else she had going on when she was around. My brother, lives 600 miles away, calls up for gas money and gets bragged about. I forget to run an errand and I'm told I'm only here because the drug store was closed. Spot on.
