New Video Laura Supporting Steve Moments Part 2: • Family Matters- Laura ...
Family Matters is one of my all-time favorite shows. One of the best parts about the show is the evolving relationship between Laura (Kellie S. Williams) and Steve (Jaleel White). While Laura’s rejection of Steve’s romantic overtures is a well discussed plot of the show, their sweet friendship (that eventually turned to love) also deserves to be highlighted. Laura always came with the sassy wit to hold Steve at bay, but she also used it to defend and support him against people who tried to take advantage of him. I hope you enjoy seeing the sweet and caring side of Laura and Steve’s relationship.

She and Steve did a lot of growing up during the show's run. This was the whole point of Myra and Stefan. They were meant to give the two main characters an ideal significant other for them to be with. In Steve's case, he was introduced to Ted's cousin, Myra, who is intelligent and beautiful in season 4's A Thought in the Dark. He was originally attracted to her because she was a sweetheart who loves and accepts him as himself. At the end of Buds 'N' Buns, Myra showed a different side to her and one that put Steve off her permanently. Her stalking and invading his personal space was beneficial in season 5 because he learned how annoying he was to everyone in general and decided to do some growing up. Once Steve agreed to go steady with Myra in the end of season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started to mature. She went back to the intelligent sweetheart that he was attracted to originally. Steve was also less attached to the Winslows because Myra kept him distracted from his own family problems. Laura learned that she should never fall in love with a man for his looks after what she endured with Stefan in the end of season 5's Dr. Urkel and Mr. Cool. He showed a lack of concern over Carl's partner being shot and once he insulted Steve by calling him a village klutz, this enraged her. Laura told Stefan off how she felt and demanded that he return as Urkel at once. She points to that as annoying as Steve was, he was always caring and compassionate to others. Realizing how much he hurt Laura, he agreed to return as Urkel via eating a tablet which serves as an antidote. When she tells him that she never wants to see Stefan again, he reassures her that his alter-ego's can be improved on. For a while, Laura forgot about him but not the lessons she learned. She was more mindful in being careful in who she dated and get to know the person first. That was until Stefan Returns when Maxine asked if Steve could bring him back. However, Laura points out that Stefan's arrogance and narcissistic behavior in his lack of concern over Carl's partner being shot was the main reason why she never asked him to do so. After some convincing from Maxine, she finally did ask Steve. By this time he had already completed the challenge by creating boss sauce(which helps maintain Steve's compassion and tone down the narcissistic traits) and a transformation chamber to cut down on the rashes for sensitive parts of his body. By the time season 9 rolled around, there was no need for Stefan and Myra

As I grow older I do appreciate Steve's relationship with Laura. Yes, Laura, did find him annoying and at times did snap at him, which is understandable. He did invade her personal space at times and was a little too helpful at times. However, she has always cared and had a love for Steve since day one. She was one of the few people who never took advantage of his kindness and appreciate everything he did for her. She wasn't afraid to stand up for him or be seen with him in public. She always saw Steve for who he really is, underneath those nerdy glasses. A nice, loyal, smart guy with a heart of gold. Steve's love for Laura was unconditional, every nice thing he did, he never expected anything in return as long as she was happy.

Well said! The same thing happened with me. Watching the show again made me appreciate Steve and Laura even more. When I was young, I missed certain nuances and subtleties between them that make them so special. Laura was very blunt and honest, but she didn't always wear her heart on her sleeve like Steve. Her love and care was more in her actions than words.

Steve was a good friend. I would love a friend like Steve. Laura was such a good friend to Steve bc he was such a good person and good friend to her. He treated her with the utmost respect always and she recognized this. She not only recognized how good he was to her but she recognized and appreciated how good he was to others. I always taught my daughter, no matter how good a person treats you - always pay attention to how they treat others. That tells the TRUE story. There are a lot of good and genuine people but unfortunately, there are people who treat others particularly really nice bc they have some alternative motive (again, SOME people) So I agree - to have such a good friend like Steve - we have to be a good friend. ♥️

@@starryeyednostalgia7503 For me the reason why I didn't ship them is not bc of Laura but for Steve. Honestly, I felt Laura's treatment of Steve was pretty justified. She invaded her personal space and never took no for an answer. This is why I did prefer Myra and Steve for a long time since Steve met his match. Her not being attractive to him didn't really bother me, since you can't help who you are attracted to and she always saw him as a friend and never to advantage of his kindness, except that one time when she wanted him to be Stefan. I do prefer Steve and Laura as adults since Steve finally left Laura be and accepted the fact she only likes him nothing more as a friend and still continues to love her unconditionally.

Steve and Laura did a lot of growing up and maturing, which was the point of Stefan and Myra The problem with Myra was how psychotic, possessive, jealous, immature, overbearing and a commitment control freak she is. At one point, Steve was attracted to her mainly because of how sweet she was to him and accepted him as he is. After showing off those negative traits, he was put off Myra permanently. A lot of people forget that she played an important role in Steve's life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in season 4's A Thought in the Dark and shown her negative traits at the end of Buds 'N' Buns, it would've been a different story. Steve would kept stalking Laura into season 5 and would've gotten a restraining order against him. He would never had grown up the way he did and would've been alone the rest of his life. Myra taught Steve a hard lesson in respecting personal boundaries by having him endure life with her invading his personal space and stalking him relentlessly. She took the lesson a step further by forcibly having sex with him in his locker, spy on him by drawing him naked in his room and demanding commitment from him. In turn, Steve realized how annoying he was to everyone in general and accepted he needed to do a lot of maturing to do. After he agreed to go steady with Myra in season 6's Paradise Bluff, she calmed down considerably and started to mature into her own person. Steve started growing up into his own person and was less attached to the Winslows because she kept him distracted from his family problems. Myra stopped picking fights with Laura, started to befriend her and started fitting in with her set of friends much better. This continued into season 7 where she gave Laura a piece of her mind and explained why Steve was competing against Curtis in the drag race. He knew the dangers of drag racing because one of his cousins, Cleotus, was in an accident from one and was willing to risk his life to keep her safe. When Myrtle returned to rekindle her pursuit of Eddie in season 7's Swine Lake, Steve had a Deja' Vu moment harkening back into season 5 when Myra stalked him relentlessly and invaded his personal space. He warned her several times to stay away from Eddie because he already has a wonderful girlfriend in Greta and there's no need for her to interfere with his life. By Season 8, Myra slowly started to go back to her old ways when she demanded Steve that they get married after graduation from college. He refused because he was too young, had plans for himself and felt like she was too much of a commitment control freak. She was more mindful in being careful in who she dated and get to know the person first because looks can be very deceiving. By this time he had already completed the challenge by creating boss sauce(to help maintain Steve's compassion and tone down the narcissistic traits) and a transformation chamber to cut down on the rashes for sensitive parts of his body(which was one of the side effects to his Cool Juice). By the time season 9 rolled around, there was no need for Stefan and Myra. Steve and Laura are able to be together. During the events of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Myra tried to save her relationship with Steve by pretending to break up with him in her attempt to get him to relinquish his love for Laura and be with her. However, she really underestimated his willingness to move on with his life and which resulted in her retaliation. During Crazy For You, Myra and Stefan succeeded in breaking up Steve and Laura's first date. However, when he reprimanded the two, Stefan immediately felt guilty over what he done. Myra still remained remorseless for her actions, pointing out Laura doesn't deserve Steve and she does. He tells her off she doesn't deserve him after how she behaved and even Stefan defends him, having seen how much of a psychopath she is. He mentions during his last date with Laura, he suspected they were falling out of love for each other. Unlike Myra, Stefan isn't going to force her to be in a relationship which no one will be happy. In Crazier for You, Steve learns the truth about her spying on him via Stefan and he destroys his new glasses. Taking out the old ones, he confronts Myra for her behavior and tells her off to relinquish her love for him immediately because he's never going to take her back. Steve demands that she stops writing him, sending him presents, calling him, etc. since he loves Laura. Myra refuses to take No for an answer and still determined to win him back. She shows up dressed up like Laura for their date at Amore's and Steve orders her to leave at once. He doesn't want Myra back in his life after all this and thinks she needs professional help. While she managed to gain her rival's forgiveness before she had her falsely arrested for stealing her watch. Steve refused to believe Myra by calling her out as a bad liar and publicly exposes her by revealing that she violated his privacy by spying on him with the spy cam she attached to his new glasses (he ended up wearing his old ones because of her). At the police station, he manages to get the charges dropped against Laura by filing a police report against Myra. She is arrested for framing Laura along with her spying on him with illegal surveillance gear Although upset by their break up, Stefan kept this promise once he learned that Laura accepted Steve's proposal at the end of Pop Goes the Question. He decides that he will look for his special someone and get to know his relatives instead. When Myra learned about Steve and Laura's engagement, she continue carrying the torch into Lost in Space.

Thing was with Steve, he was supposed to be a one-time only character. He was originally introduced as a popular kid(similar to his character, Bobby Ross, from the Good Morning Miss Bliss pilot) who moved into the Urkel's new home in Chicago from New York with his folks: Herb(neurosurgeon) and Diane Roberta(a successful scientist). Laura is immediately smitten by Steve and ignored asking Mark. Instead, she asks him out to the dance. When Jaleel White was casted as Steve, he didn't want the character to be like him on the show until season 3. Thus, he changed his character to his iconic nerdy and clumsy self after observing a kid he knew in school.

Myra stopped picking fights with Laura, started to befriend her and started fitting in with her set of friends much better. This continued into season 7 where she gave Laura a piece of her mind and explained why Steve was competing against Curtis in the drag race. He didn't doubt Curtis was a good guy and cared about her safety. However, his profession as a drag racer made Steve nervous and for a good reason. This is because he knew the dangers to that sport because of his cousin, Cleotus, who had a similar profession and ended up injured from an accident. She is arrested for framing Laura along with her spying on him with illegal surveillance gear. Although upset by their break up, Stefan kept this promise once he learned that Laura accepted Steve's proposal at the end of Pop Goes the Question. He decides that he will look for his special someone and get to know his relatives instead. When Myra learned about Steve and Laura's engagement, she continue carrying the torch into Lost in Space.

Laura had forever been in Steve’s corner. She has truly both loved and cared about him from day one. For a long time it only seemed as though Laura found him annoying was only because she couldn’t yet handle the feelings that she already had for him. Laura wasn’t yet ready to simply come out with it. But as the show progressed Laura slowly grew closer and closer to him. Not to mention that if anyone hadn’t noticed was that Laura actually had no issue with Steve already sitting up under her. And she always truly had his best interests at heart. Low key Laura actually enjoyed Steve’s advances not to mention having his attention in general. Laura and Steve both of them truly pushed and brought out the best in each other and they even made sacrifices for one another. Myra didn’t truly love Steve like Laura did. While even though Myra and Steve had similar interests Myra was a bit insecure, possessive and truly resentful of seeing Steve grow.

After Jaleel, Kellie was the best actor on that show. Just supremely underrated even at an early age. People who watch a lot of tv recognize that Kellie acted so well, she was able to convey an implied love that was being hidden from the object of her love. That cannot be easy. The writing on their relationship was a little bit adult but she and Jaleel were able to pull it off. If she would have stayed in show business, the right role could have made her a huge star.

I'm soooo thankful for this video. I've been saying for a long time Laura was the best pick for Steve. She was never CRUEL to Steve. Yes she would hurt his feelings but that's because he did do clumsy, reckless things, and was down right annoying. But she was ALWAYS his friend. She was a real one. Myra had a fetish for nerds. Go back to when they first met. Her cousin was Teddy, one of Laura's boyfriends. He said my cousin has a "thing" for nerds. She would have liked anybody that was a nerd. It wasn't like she loved Steve like Laura grew to love him...in a genuine type way. Even how they broke up was crazy. She was playing games and even was stalking/spying on him at one point.
@starryeyednostalgia7503
@starryeyednostalgia7503 Год назад
I'm so glad you liked the video! I'm going to jump on my soapbox about this topic. Laura definitely gets a lot of overblown hate compared to other characters who were worse to Steve. Laura had her moments where she pissed me off by being bratty and selfish, but I've never seen her as evil. Her point of view is always dismissed because she wasn't romantically interested in Steve and was brutally honest with him. Laura's attitude came from peer pressure but also because Steve didn't understand the concept of privacy, boundaries and space. If someone you're not interested in keeps bothering you, you will eventually start having an attitude too. Steve Urkel is one of my all-time favorite characters in the history of entertainment, but the kid could drive anyone to frustration lol. Another thing about Laura is you really have to go by her actions and not words. Her words signify frustration and anger, but her actions show otherwise. She always had Steve's back when it mattered most and she always went out of her way to make things right when she did hurt Steve. Most people wouldn't have done half of what Laura did for Steve under the same circumstances. I love how Steve and Laura have impeccable integrity and kind hearts at their core despite being flawed. As for Myra, I can see why people prefer her because of how enamored she was with him. On the surface, she and Steve have more in common and she appears to like Steve for him. However, people overlook how Myra often pushed Steve to do things against his values and morals. She would get upset when he didn't respond how she saw fit. Remember her calling him a mama's boy at the drive in because he wanted to save himself for marriage? Stalking him and drawing him naked without his consent? Throwing a grill through his window because he didn't want to propose marriage? Helping the Christmas shoppers wrap Steve up because he took too long gift wrapping? Dumping him because he wanted to improve himself and grow into his manhood? 😂 Don't get me wrong, I love Myra and find her highly entertaining. She was needed for Steve to learn more about himself and come into his own. However, it amuses how so many fans overlook how controlling and suffocating she was to Steve's personal development for her own selfish reasons. She had a manipulative and vindictive side long before S9. So I totally agree that Steve made the right choice in picking Laura. People will often say Laura only loved Steve because he changed, but what did he change exactly? It's not like Steve had to drastically change his values, character, morals or heart to be with Laura. He was still the same intelligent, kind, loving, quirky and nerdy guy he'd always been. He just stopped being so aggressive, clumsy and wore better fitting pants lol. Regardless of how it started, Steve and Laura's hearts, souls, values, and character were aligned at the end. Not only were they best friends, but they were also in love. That's what matters the most and why I see them as the better fit.
@Gracie4012_
@Gracie4012_ Год назад
@@starryeyednostalgia7503 yup you are 100% right. All points I have come to make myself. Steve drove everyone crazy because like you said he didn't understand boundaries and privacy most of the time. Also, to piggy back back off what you said about other saying Laura only liked him because he changed. Which again, I agree with you. He may have matured a bit but he didn't really change. There was an episode where Laura WANTED to be around Steve more than Stephan, and she wanted to be open an honest about her feelings but Stephan and Steve played her by "switching" places on her. So in conclusion lol Laura has always been the best pick 😊

A lot of people forget that she played an important role in his life and maturing. I say this because had Myra not been introduced in midway season 4, it would've been a different story. He knew the dangers of drag racing because one of his cousins, Cleotus, had been a professional drag racer, got into an accident and was willing to risk his life to keep her safe. Steve didn't doubt that Curtis was a good guy to Laura and cared about her well being. Which is why for the most part, he didn't interfere with their relationship. Curtis's occupation as a drag racer was the main reason Steve had a right to be concerned. Once he realized that danger after Steve's near death experience, he vowed never to do that again. Steve also told Myrtle to look for her own man and leave them alone. It took her near the end of Season 9's Don't Make Me Over for her to realize how much Eddie simply wasn't interested in her and relinquished her love for him. By Season 8, Myra slowly started to go back to her old ways when she demanded Steve that they get married after graduation from college. He refused because he was too young, had plans for himself and felt like she was too much of a commitment control freak.

Oh my God, my prayers have been answered. I swear earlier last week and all this year and last year I was hoping someone would make a compilation video of Laura being nice to Steve. She's always got a bad rap because she wasn't as into him as he was into her. She has stood up for him a lot and gave him advice and help when he needed. Fans always compared her to to Myra. Myra was obsessed with Steve and was a pick me( no shade). He told her what is was and that if Laura gave him a chance he'd leave her for Laura. Laura didn't start falling for Steve in the final season like it showed, she developed stronger feelings as time went on. Remember prom night, they went together and made out. He made that night special for her.

Myra was way to toxic for Steve relationship wise. However, she played an important role in his maturity. If it wasn't for Myra, Steve would've remained the same old guy and never understanding why Laura wasn't interested in him nor why anyone found him annoying. Remember when she asked him to grow up and stop behaving like a stalker in the earlier seasons, he didn't take it seriously. Myra taught Steve a hard lesson respecting others personal space by putting him in the same position as he put Laura and the other Winslows. She invaded his personal space and stalked him relentlessly. Myra took the lesson further by forcibly having sex with Steve in his locker(at the end of Like a Virgin), demanded commitment and spying on him by drawing him naked in his room. The way Laura looked at Steve at the prom, is the way a girl looks at the man she loves. In that moment, on that balcony, she was in love with Steve. They never followed up that episode with an explanation, until season 9. There are earlier episodes where Laura couldn’t hide her feelings for him. People were too busy listening to what she was saying and ignoring her body language and actions. She liked Steve from day one, but couldn’t date him because she wanted to be popular. The reason why she was so intense with her rejections was because she was betraying her own heart.
@SulliMike23
@SulliMike23 2 года назад
Laura may have found Steve annoying and may have preferred his alter personae Stefan Uquelle, but he was the only guy who was genuine in his feelings for her. Every other guy she dated was a jerk in some form. He may have been nerdy, but he didn’t give up on her no matter how many times she rejected him. He stuck out for her when she needed it, and she stuck out for him when he needed it. Eventually, the two of them did wind up together and I doubt Laura regrets it. Because despite his quirkiness, she understood that underneath that nerdy exterior is the kind of man she always wanted, no matter how much she tried to deny it.

It negates Myra and Laura to be judged/critiqued solely on how devoted they were to Steve. I absolutely adore Steve, but he was also flawed. He had to learn how to respect people's boundaries and privacy. That is why I loved Steve's story arc of self improvement and his quest to becoming a better man. Unfortunately, some gloss over that and focus solely on the flaws of Laura and Myra. Both ladies are absolutely beautiful and centering everything on their looks is ridiculous. Kellie has definitely been unfairly attacked. Like you say, they're real actresses outside of the characters they played.

A lot of people say that Myra was better with Steve because she “actually loved him”. But if you watch all of the episodes, even just this video, you can start to realize more that Laura has always cared about Steve, no matter what. But as she gets older, she slowly starts to realize that feeling was her love for Steve. Myra was also just a little bit.. invasive sometimes. This video is so cute and really shows that Laura always cared about him. ❤️

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I couldn't agree with you more. I always say Laura falling in love with Steve wasn't out of the blue. Watching FM in its entirety shows the underlying progression of Laura's feelings for Steve. Laura's actions show her care for Steve before her words say it.

Not only that Myra was the one who dumped him because he was becoming more mature and only wanted him back once he got with Laura that's the part people don't seem to remember.

@@jasonchance8096 Yeah but only when he got back with Laura after she dumped him she didn't care but her ego was hurt knowing that he actually had another option other then her. Especially after finding out it was Laura she was in competition with her just as much as she was in a relationship with Steve for yrs. Myra enjoyed being the his only option even if she wasn't his first but knowing that she was his one and only was a big deal to her rather their together or not.
