Family Matters Season One Cold Opens No Longer Aired 

If you where BORN 88-2000s we were all confused during the reruns a lot of judys scenes were edited out ! Like the Winslow’s only had two children smh

RIP Judy Winslow. She didn't die but she might as well have because she vanished with no explanation.

Even though Judy Winslow only lasted 4 of the 9 family matters seasons, I still love her and for wat they did to her made the fans sad, but she will always be my fav character on the show! If her mom aka her agent didnt be so greedy for more money, she would have stayed on the show! If there was a 10th season or even a wedding episode for Steve & Laura, wat would have happened is that Judy, Richie & Rachel would have all appeared & the storyline would have been that they were all staying together somewhere else based on school, work and helping each other!

At 3:10, way to save all that food from going to waste Carl! Harriette was probably glad all that food didn't go to waste!

Thank you for the explanation in the description for this clip concerning Urkel. This is damn confusing to anyone who has not seen the show for many years, or never seen it. They go to IMDB to look up when Jaleel White first appears and it says Episode 4 only because of the cold open. And it makes no sense because in that clip it is shown that he and Carl have already met when they don't really meet until Episode 12. Even more stupid is they first use him in the cold open for Rachel's First Date when he first meets the Winslows in Laura's First Date.

They don't make wholesome shows like this anymore. Sad.

I'm so upset that in syndication we miss out on this b/c after almost 9 seasons, seeing the 1st few episodes is like a breath of fresh air w/o Urkel...plus it holds true to the title of the show. Wonder why the do that for that 1 episode on the DVD? But thx for the upload!

It's so sad and wrong that they had that kid run up stairs and never come back down. I mean they just wrote her out of the script and pretended we would never notice.

I hope one day they do a reboot or a continuation of Family Matters

They shouldn't be used for syndication or the DVDs as the default cold openings. On the twelfth episode Steve Urkel introduces himself to Carl Winslow after he knocks on their door. The first episode he's introduced on the DVD and on national broadcast is when he's taking a shower at the Winslow's house without any introduction to Harriette on the seventh episode. He gets two introductions if you're watching the show for the first time after 1989 (if you're not watching an original broadcast VHS/Betamax taping). It's a plot error they created after the show initially broadcast before it entered it's second season all the way up to its cancellation in 1998. *In short:* the DVD and TV re-runs are incorrect in how they introduce Steve Urkel to Family Matters/the cast. Somebody should edit out these false cold openings/introductions so his character gets the proper introduction he originally was given, episode 12 "Laura's First Date".

It's a scene that plays before the theme song. It's usually a gag that has nothing to do with the rest of the episode.

Aww I miss these cold opens. Im sorry but this is what made me laugh a lot during season one. Steve Urkel I don't mind but he was always put in so many of these ridiculous storylines that he saturated the show for me.

Now the DVD did use the Urkel opening for "Rachel's First Date' however. Does anyone recall the original cold opening for that one? I've always been curious about that.
