Family Photos with a Toddler 

Photographs always reflect the time they're taken in. The photos we see of the Victorian era reflect the fact that photos were both expensive and required a long, still exposure, so the faces are more solemn (easier than holding a smile). Bloopers from this time show that cracking up is timeless. The also often took photos with their dead, sometimes posing the body as if it were alive, which today we might find unsettling, but to them it was their only chance to have a family portrait. As photography became a little more commonplace and affordable, there was a trend of taking baby pictures -- just of baby -- which makes sense to us, right? Not when you remember that long exposure time. The babies had to be held, so mothers would attempt to disguise themselves as background. Today, when photography is so inexpensive we forget it has a cost (the phone, the plan, electricity), of course we are going to change how photos are taken. Your daughter looks positively joyful. Yep I always ask my daughter for consent before taking her photo from around the age she could understand

This captures the moment and her personality so well. I like it better than fighting her to conform to a fake pose she doesn't want to do.

I am sure that is fine most of the time. But, what about real family photos?
