The 90s were the golden age of Singapore TV, and May I say Singapore itself as well? GDP may have grown since then but I truly feel Singaporeans were happiest back in the prosperous and peaceful 90s before AFC hits. Now we have a shiny city with manmade attractions and more skyscrapers. But it just never feel quite the same.
Amen to that. I was born on 1995 to small to remember any 90s but I wholeheartedly agree that life was more simple and peaceful back then now that people always complain about everything and things are so expensive nowadays. 90s ROCK!!!
I am not Singaporean, but I agree about the 90s. People everywhere felt more authentic and happier compared to today's social media and image obsessed society.
I remember both these shows so vividly. It made me feel so proud that this was locally-made. Sadly, not many shows these days actually live up to the standards that these 2 did. The cast. the storyline, the character development, the dialogue, the set - everything was always so perfect that every episode can be felt.
Wee Soon Hui is too good for local TV. She needs to be in more films and even Hollywood or the BBC..! The Standard Straits English was unreal for an unlettered housewife and I always saw her more as a thespian than anything. Vernetta is truly talented and very entertaining, even to this day 😊
That was Zaibo's masterstroke ... till this day, you still think he forgets his lines ... or did he? He steals the thunder each time he gets into the scene.
@@JiFan Boleh dapat Singapore digital TV dari Johor. Kualiti jauh lebih baik banding analog. Yang Utama kena pakai antenna luar dgn booster. Nostalgia waktu dahulu
Under One Roof holds a special place in my heart, and will always be my absolute fave TV show produced locally. The jokes were actually funny and witty and the cast so lovable. Nothing else comes close after that, sadly. I miss the Tans, and wish their reunion was longer with more talk time! Good to see them together again.
I switched on SBS channel in Australia one night in the late 90s and was amazed to see this all-asian, English-speaking cast in an incredibly funny Singaporean sitcom! In prime time television!! I'd never ever seen anything like that before...thank you cast of 'Under One Roof'.
Thank you CNA for filming this reunion! It really brought back old memories. I laughed and cried at some scenes here and I will continue to do so when I re-watch these wonderful series :)
I cried at that scene on growing up. I still remember it and under one roof, seeing Moses Lim reminds me of the laughters and his stories. I always seen him as uncle Moses. He really is a treasure like Lim kay tong.
First time I see Benedict Goh again after so long. The last I know of him was that he set up a skin care business. Missed those days when he was a game show host. He was also a manhunt guy.
I loved this sitcom. I used to watch with my parents and siblings during or after dinner. Recently i rewatched it on Netflix and feels really emotional as my parents are no longer around. Brought back loads of happy memories i have with my Dad especially who loved this show.
i like how after 20 plus years, when Kay Tong looks at Steven or Jamie Yeo, i am waiting expectantly for him to ask them to keep their clothes or help their brother Gary. Thats the impact Growing up had on a whole generation of us. Thank you, these really were the golden days of Singapore's film.
Authentic, quality and memorable singapore-produced shows. They really dont make them like they used to. I love these programmes, they were my childhood. And i appreciated all the actors because they were true artists, i feel they were passionate about their craft. There were other nice shows too like triple 9, phua chu kang, shiver, can i help you. But these were the diamonds.
Really a walk down memory lane. Miss the good old tv shows back then. Actors and actresses were so good. Great storylines too. Nothing fancy. Just stories that connect and touch the hearts of people.
When I look at these TV families I'm flooded with memories of how it felt to be sitting with my family, talking about these TV characters and laughing together. Today I'm far away from home in the US, but this hits home for me.
Irin Gan Andrew Siao & Leena Salim are missing from the cast. It’s unfortunate that mediacorp shows nowdays will never be the same like Under One Roof & Growing Up
The very first Singaporean sitcom I ever watched as a young kid. The funny Singlish accent and the antics of the casts come together and it always gives me an explosive laughter. 😆😆😆😆😆
Under One Roof was my first favorite foreign comedy show. And back in my elementary days, I skip classes or get absent so that I can watch Under One Roof. Good old days.
Watching this really made my day!! Hello to all the casts...i have missed watching the real Singapore local sitcoms. Maybe they can upload somewhere again to let us reminisce:)
I used to watched this dramas with my English husband. Loved it! I've been living in England for over 20 over years and I am missing my Singapore home 😥😥
hello from across the causeway! late 90's after high school always looked forward to watch these shows during dinner, felt nice that we could watch something relatable instead of all the dominant american media at the time. Thanks to everyone for the memories.
I just finished watching all episodes of under one roof after having a sentimental flashback. Then looked this up. This show was so well done. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
I LOVED MY 90s! i grew up then! and there were soooo many shows then! the pyramid show and what not! and also back then , people were friendly! and they were not like so much into their own activity everyone helped each other! loved the 90s!
As Malaysian that frequently travelled to Singapore for a business trip, this sitcom was one of my favourite. Luckily my sister been resided in Johor, as me got to see some episodes. I am glad I got netflix and watched all episodes of this again and again
@@jemlebeau same! i do always chance upon Kin since they take up the prime time slot on channel 5. and have watched a few episodes.... but re watching Growing up shows how simple story lines of family and struggles still apply in todays society.
In the 90s,we used to invite malaysian or singaporean actors who has acted in Malaysia to be in Singapore show in the 90s & early 2000s. Nowadays, not many production seem to invite malaysian actors to be on local drama(well there are a few like Kisah Tok Kadi where Beto Kusairy was the lead in singapore drama. We used to have the late Zaibo, late Harun Salim Bachik as well as few others. We need more malaysian/indonesian actors.
So much memories watching to these 2 shows.. emotionally charged i am looking at some of the featured scenes here.. thank u to all those whom were involved..
Was probably in kindergarten back then, totally forgot about it until I watch this video and the memories came flooding back. Remembered watching Under one roof on channel 5 and Phua Chu Kang as well.
Omg.. i grew up watching under one roof. Im a Malaysian and its also huge here in the 90s. I still remember how excited i am every wednesday because under one roof were aired every 9 pm after prime time news that day. The next day, the whole class will be talking about it. Whole family would watch and laugh together.. i even memorised the opening jingle.
I enjoyed under one roof. Didn't know how old it was already. I really grew up with it and I like it's well multicultural and presents good English language. Liked it when the dad goes to "this reminds me of a story " mode😂😂. Under one roof, phua chu kang, kopitiam
We had seen American sitcoms like Friends and Beverley Hills reunion. It’s heartening to see our very own sitcom reunion . Bring back all the memories . Thank you Under One Roof and Growing Up ~
Urgh, WATERFALL LA WHEN under one roof neighbor died, and growing up mom was murdered... urgh..... was sooooooooooooo SADDDD haha sigh.. those were the good days.
I think in those days, it felt so real because of the caliber of talents who are able carry their roles very well. Most of the dramas also depicts the life of an average singaporean which u dont see much in today’s dramas. If u noticed they dont carry much accent as compared to today. The 90s era was the booming era of TV. We didnt have internet or alternative online platforms like netflix so everyone is just glued in front of the TV and of course life was less stressful back then. These days u work from day to night and with online platforms available at ur fingertips, who watches TV anymore. Im so glad we can relieve those moments on MEwatch.
I cried buckets when Mrs Lim died. It brings a tear thinking of it now, after almost 30yrs. Also the most distressing scene in Sg TV drama history. Before that, it was the scene when HuDe shot Ah Shui.
Oh good grief... I remember watching Mrs Tay's passing on Growing Up the night before PSLE and being so upset... was still traumatized while doing my paper the next time, swollen eyes and all! 0.0
