Family Reunions and a UFO Story (Bedford, Indiana)

In 2002, I was at a family reunion at Bedford. Among the food and noise, I asked aged people what things were like, when they were little kids, so long ago. There were people there that knew a civil war veteran, my great great Grandpa, and even spoke to him in his lifetime: and I heard those priceless stories. But then, a very unusual thing was mentioned.
The story involved a UFO, that followed the family car for several miles, back in the 1930’s. This led to a very interesting investigation in the country, along the backroads of Lawrence County, and a search for possible explanations. For a fact, I was made richer for listening.

New subscriber. I know this is an older video but I have a story to tell. When I was a young child in the early 70s I lived in Selma Indiana my mom and dad my brothers and sister were outside close to darkness and there was an oval shaped light in the sky and it started to move around in different directions, my dad got us in the car and we started to follow it, it led us to the north side of Muncie to a gravel pit, went down into it and disappeared. There were people in there cars all around the gravel pit. Not sure what it was but I believed all my life that it was a UFO. Then I learned that close encounters of the third kind was based upon this sighting. Several people I have talked to my age have similar stories.

Welcome to the channel, Scott! I was living near a military base next to Edinburgh, Indiana. One night, I headed toward nearby Columbus, to get a carry-out order, and took a country road that has no lights. On the right side of the road, in a field, were a formation of at least 10 green lights, hovering. I stopped the car to take a look, but as soon as I did, each of them started peeling off and following each other, toward the base. They were quiet. I took after them, and got up to about 90 mph before they absolutely left me. I mean blink gone. Locals call them military signal drones. I saw them two other times when I lived there. Probably not what you saw, but I always share that to see if there’s anything common in the stories

Do you know any Phillips from around there? My dad told me a few stories from around the same time. They were living in Albany when my aunt, uncles and dad were playing hiding go seek. And my aunt was hiding by the shed and there was a ufo hovering around 50ft about her. They said that the trees were blowing around along with my aunts dress but absolutely no sound. They said the whole neighborhood saw it including the sheriff that my grandma called. I had a really close encounter in Dunkirk about 15 years ago that was pretty intense. That whole is a Hotspot for sure.

Love this story and this channel!! I went to school with a Turpen or two during my few short years at BNL. I lived out in Buddha and yes it was very strange out there at times my “unexplained sighting” was in the mid 90s in Middletown IN. Ps, those bibs your GGGpa were wearing in that last picture are very sharp for the day!! Wonderful picture!

Someone a few days ago, said that they’d lived in Lawrence County many years, and couldn’t get over how much strange stuff happens there! GG Grandpa was a real character! Lied about his age to fight in the civil war, twice! His first deployment was at only 16 years old. He had 4 wives, only one outlived him, producing a total of 13 kids. Soooooo, 13 kids multiplied by at least 5 generations: lots of Turpen’s! 🙂

@@AdventureswithRoger I know right, so often hearing wonderful stories from loved ones it makes us miss em all over again .. My daughter and I sorta into genealogy, we both work in education so Summers are the best time to search archives, just really cool . As we searched this article came across this child that seemed to be orphaned or we just got stuck, we kept going back day after day trying to find out about her we had the census, papers with who she lived with obviously family members but then it stalled, we were just determined to find out who was she, so after about month with no luck we just sitting with my mom talking and mentioned this child’s name and my mom looked at me slapped her knee with the surprise on her face, oh honey I’ve been to her house she lived until her late 90 s 😳🤣🤣 .

Very interesting Roger! Yes, we need to ask our questions while our relatives are alive. Life is short, and sometimes it's hard to remember to take the time to talk to people about the events they remember from the past. There is a wealth of knowledge to be had if we take time to listen.

I'm 74 now and really wished I had asked my parents about what life was like in the 1930's, during the war, where my grandparents came from in Germany and when they came to the United States. These are all questions all of us seem to have forgotten to ask in our younger days when there was people who could answer them. Friends of mine are using ancestry web sites, but there's nothing like hearing a story from the source.

Second ship to pick up survivors from the USS Indianapolis sinking. In 1970's I personally met one of the rescued survivors my grandfather personally took a shining to. My grandfather,at my request told me of picking up survivors from a ship wreck. They were covered with oil they couldn't discern the nationality. I could tell more, but I'm trying to make a point.

Lots of theories about why Lawrence County has a spooky vibe, and people see things like Bigfoot and UFO’s. Some are pretty “out there”, from an underground alien base, with Bigfoot being a type of alien, to ancient cultures that continue to come back home. Or, that the immense amount of limestone acts as a radio telescope, to receive cosmic energy. All I know is that Lawrence County feels special to me. Lots of relatives have lived there, but it just seems solid as the limestone bedrock, and that’s hard to explain any other way! 🙂 Below is my spooky footage from Tunnelton ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f6sfS3snBDA.html

I’ve had people tell me they often pop and make an explosion. Gladly that didn’t happen near your head! 🙂 Scientists say they are super rare, but I tend to believe they happen more often than people talk about. It’s so odd, and other worldly, that I believe some people might fear being labeled crazy, so don’t talk about it.

My grandfather had a similar story about ball lightning or spherical UFO while working on the railroad near Westpoint, Indiana in the 70s. It was zipping around the train pacing and racing it. Roger I don't think you've done one on this, but in 2008 I drove down to Bedford to see the half-moon crop circle formations that had made the news. By the time I got there they had been somewhat destroyed. The locals told me that 'white vans' showed up with guys dressed in something like hazmat suits and had done the damage. There were still very strange energies there. My friend took a photo of me and that revealed an orb that enveloped my entire body. Bedford is a magical place!

Bedford covers up many things! I vividly remember a Lawrence county Bigfoot footprint, that made the news, when I was a kid. I even saw a news clipping at the old history library, that was in the courthouse basement. The new history museum has no record of it, and the online archive is missing! Would be interested in the half moon location!

Several decades ago, I was intrigued by the crop circles in Great Britain. It was a huge sensation on the paranormal interest circuit. “Finally, aliens are trying to communicate with us!” Every mainstream news outlet was covering it. Then two guys came forward and showed how they did it: two sticks, two pieces of rope. They demonstrated how they made the elaborate designs, in just one evening. It was kind of a letdown. Then someone said, “Those guys work for the government, it’s just a big coverup. Crop circles are a real phenomenon.” I didn’t know what to think, but noticed crop circles pretty much went away after the two guys showed how to make them. I’d love to see a non time elapse film of them being created, without humans, to settle it! Older reports of “alien landings” had radioactivity that was measurable. I’m very intrigued by all of it!
@MagneticUniverse
@MagneticUniverse 2 года назад
@@AdventureswithRoger There were other pictures on the web showing more definitive and uniform formations of the half moons in Bedford, but I can't seem to find them. I think those guys built some of them, but were also disinfo agents. People can easily create cropcircles using that plank method, but there are instances where some of the more elaborate ones were created within at least few hours and in multiple locations. Here's some old footage of one being created: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_L6xGfe_a1s.html

Ball lightning is rare but real. Scientists don’t really know what it is. Some people have even theorized that it’s a spirit. All I know is that my elderly cousin, and his two siblings, definitely saw something, and they remembered it for life! I have seldom told people this event... when I was 13, in the summer of 1983... I witnessed a silver disc that materialized in the sky and wobbled for approximately 5 seconds... this occurred in Floyd county, Indiana... the disc was a typical "UFO shape", it was silver gray in color... I was walking up the street of my subdivision... I had a sensation that I was not supposed to have seen this object, but that it had mistakenly appeared... yes, a strange thing to feel, but I did... the disc wobbled in one location and then simply vanished... that is the only such experience with a "UFO" I have ever had... Now decades later, I have developed theories and beliefs based on my research into such phenomena about what these things are... all filtered thru my Christian faith.

I’ve seen the hovering lights over by Atterbury, everyone sees them, and I caught them on my old video camera. Those are supposedly military drones, but I’ve never known a drone that could leave me in the dust at 90 miles an hour! But I came down to the Ohio river with my cousins, and saw something really puzzling. I was down by the old Rocky’s restaurant, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw what looked like a huge, floating, rusty brown colored object floating in the sky above the water. It honestly looked like the vehicle the Jawas drove in the first Star Wars. I did a double take, thinking, “I did NOT just see what I saw.” And it was gone. Obviously it was an optical illusion, maybe something reflecting off the water and into fine water particles in the sky. Right? But I was somewhere and mentioned it, and a lady acted like I’d released a heavy weight off her back. “You saw it too! I knew I wasn’t crazy! It was huge, quiet, rusty red and just floated there in the sky!” I still don’t know what I saw, but apparently, I wasn’t the only one!
