FoodTrail.ch has some new Food Trails this year. One that caught our eye was the Seeland Food Trail. Instead of the usual city tour, this one involved the use of public transport as well as a nice amount of time walking / hiking. It has been developed in association with BLS, the local rail and bus company.
If you are not familiar with what a Food Trail is, basically they are a scavenger hunt in which you have to solve puzzles in order to find your next location where you will be able to enjoy either some local food or drink and sometimes both. They are a great way to explore new cities or localities, we have also found they are good for places you may think you know, as the trail will take you from the normal beaten track.
The trail itself starts in the city of Lyss at the BLS travel centre. Here you pickup your branded bags (we have a few of these now), the fist puzzle and the most important part, the vouchers for each food / drink stop and in this case, your local transport day ticket. Then off you go.
It its advised to allow 6 to 7 hours to complete the trail, this includes your stops for food and drink, transport time and walking time for 2.5km. Unfortunately when we did the trail, one of the transport options was delayed and one cancelled so the 6 to 7 hours is a good estimate.
This trail costs 68chf per person, which is more than normal, but the fact you get a local transport ticket as part part of the cost (getting to and from the trail is at your own expense) and the quality and quantity of the food and drink is excellent. In our opinion, its good value.
