YES! The moment you let your own pride and ego get in the way of acting, is the moment you lose the audition. A character who is weeping over their dead loved one isn't going to care about how their voice sounds or whether their hair looks good. Half the time, the character won't even care about a mild wardrobe malfunction (shoe falling off, sock falling down, tie coming loose, spaghetti strap sliding off, etc.). Adjustments and fidgeting MUST COME SECOND to your performance. Heck, it happened to me once (stage show, dress rehearsal) where my top came open while doing a fight scene - my whole bra was on show, and I didn't even realise until I was backstage! The director came up to me afterwards and commended me for not breaking character. _That's_ why this tip sticks so heavily in my mind. It taught me not to be embarrassed about stuff like this because people are more likely to be wowed by it.

Before the office his biggest success so to say was he was like in a series of multiple commercials I think it was for UPS or some mailing company but he did a few. He was like the Verizon guy for mail for a while.

I love Steve Carell and everything but the video is wrong including him here. This was FAR from this first audition. His first movie role was in 1991. This audition clip was for Anchorman in 2004. He had already done half a dozen movies by then, including his starring in Bruce Almighty. I’d love to see the audition from when he was first discovered but this was not it.
