It's insane how these Asian cities were barely there in the early 20th century and then became these massive futuristic metropolises in such a short (relative) timeframe. This is awesome, I had no idea just how much development happened just within the last few decades of the 20th Century alone.

I was absolutely gobsmacked at the change of pripyat.

I was in Singapore in 1994. Never realised how much it has changed since then.

What I love about European cities is that they haven't changed that much thru out the years 🥳

I can't tell you enough how much of a service you're providing with all your videos. The whole "Then vs Now" theme is both a delight and sad, over-whelming and poignant. Glad to see you back after all this global craziness. I love this video and hopefully you will do more. It blows my mind to see how some areas have changed so quickly. Makes me wish life was simpler when I see the old pictures.

For a change I noticed, compared to earlier, the cities look more greener than before. Especially, Paris, Seoul, Chicago and few more. The cities had baren land or some kind of road or mud but now they have gardens or long trees.

Fascinating! I grew up in downtown Frankfurt Germany in the 60’s and remember when it was safe to be out on the streets all day and night’s too. Today never! It’s so sad to watch a beautiful city become a manure pile to put it politely. (At least the Bahnhofviertel where I grew up). Conclusion: Not sure I can see all this as actual progress.

Wow, cities were once small towns, that were peaceful and quiet. Now it seems all of them are getting too crowded :( thank god I’m leaving the city.

Okay, but the places with "Then" shots from 2000 are kind of awe inspiring. Most of us were around when those cities were not yet cities. That's kind of amazing, and makes you realize how fast things change.

You either love it or you hate it. My great grandparents grew up in Los Angeles in the 1920s. The neighborhood they lived in is now a cheap strip mall. And on the property their house once stood, hundreds of people live, stacked like sardines, in small overpriced ($500k) condos.

4:28 that is a very old picture of San Francisco. Probably from 1995. Nowadays it looks very different.

Most of these cities didn't change all that much, except for the Arabian and Asian cities. The color photos just obscure the similarities. If you do grayscale on both time periods, you'll see the same city, with just taller buildings and more developed roads.

Sonya Jersey should do another video about the exact opposite. For example, some ghost towns that used to be some of the biggest and famous city’s back then. Like there is a town in southwestern Idaho called, “Idaho City” and back in the 1880s, Idaho city used to be bigger than Portland Oregon back then. Idaho city was the biggest city in western USA back then.

When first looking at the change in New York City, it may look small but if you look to the right of the image you will see the building in both shots, but in modern-day New York it looks small.

Way of living,clothing,buildings etc all have changed over the years but people's mentality never changed

Now let's be fair. Beautiful coloring and expert photography and technology really pretties-up these cities. Black and white make the rivers look brown, which they may be. Color them blue and you have a good-looking city.

The old Japan picture is so different to now because it was taken during WW2 when Japan was bombed.

Vilnius, Lithuania really grew..... lovely city. The two towns in Norway look cozy and humble. The one in Germany didn't change very much. Athens was always beautiful. Paris looked big then, it's still a big city, but it doesn't look quite as exquisite.

It is really nice to see the change in the way the world has been and 100 years but it is also sad because I remember stories my grandmother Karen Beaver till told me years ago in South Dakota how she lived the freedom but also she was afraid they put them in schools would cut their hair beat them chain them make them learn what they wanted to learn wouldn't let them be themselves at all that part is sad actually very sad so remember was you grow and one thing you lose in another try to remember at least the past as you're growing into the future take care be safe and be good to one another bye-bye

Wow every place is so much more colourfull nowadays...the past were grey and dark times.

In some of the places...sea level remained same...example - last one...even with 100+ years time gap, sea level has not changed!!

Wow! Just wow! It's scary how much can change in a short span of time. Some for the better and some, sadly for the worse. I guess progression is dependent on the intelligence and will power of humans unified. Of course, money is a huge factor to it all.
