In this Flute Q&A #48, you'll hear 5 example of flute pieces that use trills, and even thought there are many flute pieces that use trills, I wonder if you were able to guess any of the examples?!
The Flute Q&A question comes from Jennifer, who asks:
"Do you know many flute pieces that use trills? I'm on a mission to learn all my trill fingerings and want to practise them in pieces."
Thanks Jennifer for the inspiration to create this video!
Jennifer, find out what you'd learn in The Flute Academy, have a look at the details here: www.flute.scho...

Hi Michael, Yes, such a great piece! Maybe one day! I heard Ian Clarke play this piece live and it was amazing hearing it from the composer himself! 😀

The Allegretto from Suite de Trois Morceaux by Godard has 4 trills in a row, advancing chromatically, a great (and playful) example.

For me, the three that immediately came to mind are the Giga from Sonata No. 2 in C (Op1 No2) by Jean-Marie Leclair, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (K.525 -- do I even have to say by whom?), and Alla Hornpipe from Water Music by Handel. I'd also include Fantasia in C by Quantz (QV 3:1.2) -- yes, it's replete with mordants instead of trills, but close enough 🙂. Also for consideration would be The Fairy Queen by Carolan -- not that many trills, but a number of 16th note runs that are effectively trills (esp good for E-F# to practice that alternate fingering)
