+Hollywood Graveyard - I was @ Hollywood Forever earlier this month paying respects to my Mother. Click my pic, I shot a video. Not as great as yours, but I gave you a Shout out in my description!
BIG THUMBS UP FOR THIS ONE SIR!!!... Lou Costello is my absolute favorite of all time along with Bud Abbott. My dad delivered newspapers to Mr Costello back when he lived in Patterson New Jersey. He gave my dad 25 bucks back every Christmas, and in the 1940s that went a long way. Now I need to go see for myself for I am STILL and to the day I pass one of his biggest FANS! Thank you again sir
Wow that was terrible to hear about what grave robbers did to Maria Pico’s body . Thank you for the history and dignity you give to these actors and entertainers. Keep it up 👍
Well, I just came across this interesting video. The majority of my family is buried at Calvary, dating back to late 1920s. I've always had a interest in the main Mausoleum and there are a couple of things that I clearly recall. I remember seeing Ethel Barrymore's name next to her brothers, sans Colt. I also remember seeing the Costello sisters on the same wall as Lou Costello. At the time, I didnt know who the Costello sisters were and I thought they were related to Lou. Then one day, the names of Ethel Barrymore and the Costello sisters were gone and in place were blank stones.
I just discovered these videos a few days ago. I haven't stopped watching since. The quality and professionalism is better than any other video series that I have seen on RU-vid. Bravo!
Fun fact: John Barrymore was originally cast as: Ebonezer Scrooge for (A Christmas Carol,1938) unfortunately, Barrymore suffered a broken hip. While making the movie: (Saratoga, 1937). MGM replaces Barrymore with English stage actor: Reginald Owen
Merry Christmas Arthur and Giuseppe!!! Thank you for the Christmas present!!! Very nicely done Gentlemen!!! Thanks for visiting Lou Costello...he has always been a favorite of mine. His young son is also entombed in a nearby crypt. If I remember correctly, he was very young when he died. Being the true performer that he was, he did his radio show with Bud just 3 hours after losing his son. Bud made an announcement about it just after the show. So sad. Take care guys and see you for part 2!!!
John Hodiak was such an underrated, talented and handsome actor. Loved him in Hitchcock's "Life Boat" and "The Harvey Girls" with Judy Garland. I hope there are still plenty of cemeteries you can visit, these videos are the best! :)
Thank you for making these incredibly interesting videos. I’ve always wondered where these stars and famous people were buried after they passed. I used to work for a cemetery district in Northern California before I had to retire due to my health. Again thank you.
Wow. And I thought I knew my Hollywood history. I never even heard of Peggy O'Neill. What a tragic story. Only 21. And BTW, as Arthur even acknowledged to me, I AM sort of a pioneer in the celebrity-grave-hunting thing as this was a hobby of mine like, uh, well, 40 years ago. I've been to Calvary many times - mainly to visit the grave of Lou Costello, and STILL I was not aware of many of the other resting places that are featured in this video. And yes, I was aware of the Barrymores and the fact that John was exhumed - which by the time I was there had JUST happened. And Mabel Norman too.
From Australia, thank you so much for this series. My lovely wife and I will be in the states for the first time in September, who knows we may even visit some of the cemeteries. Thanks again.
I'll pay good money for your old hat! With the intensity of an enthusiast and the rigor of a scholar, Arthur Dark ends the year with a charming video. The film clips of the stars keep getting better and better and augment Arthur's narration beautifully. I love the "inter-connectedness" of the stars and how they are related or associated with other stars interred at the other cemeteries. My thanks to Arthur Dark for a fabulous year of superlative videos. Feliz Navidad.
I absolutely a Wonderful Life----- I wstch it every Christmas Saeson. Lionel made some great films. Such a talented family. I started watching Drew's films too Firestarter & E.T. And The Duplex w/ Ben Stiller & Driving w/Boys. I love watching ur vids Mr. DARK so interesting & factual. The clips of the silent films Dr. JECKELL & Mr. HYDE & Mabel being saved ftom the oncoming train were so fun to watch 😊 ty.❤🎉❤🎉😢🎉❤😅😊
I like your tours, especially your narration and information. Very interesting. Please keep them coming. Your choice of music is also excellent. Thank you.
Mine was Abbott and Costello that was my favorite plus my grandmother I answer she's a very thick as well so it's really a treat to know that a famous star and started are buried there as well
I enjoy every episode, very captivating, well written and presented, thank you very much. I have learned a lot about actors, directors and prominent personalities in Hollywood, The quality of each video is very good, the presentation is interesting, your voice is very pleasant, all in all, I am pleased I `ve found you. Much appreciated your work. Kisses from the UK x x x
Merry Christmas and thank you for making a video of Calvary! It’s one of my favorites. I visited this past August and left flowers for Mabel Normand. I hope you include Beatrice Dominguez, Valentino’s tango partner, from The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse in your second video
thank you so much for updating hollywood cemetary ..i enjoy seeing our wonderful actors and actresses who are buried and information why they died. RIP To all there.
I just love these videos. So much history that I love to hear about. Thank you for making these videos. Amazing work and so interesting. I am home sick with a flu or something and laying around binge watching these!
Love your videos everything from the music to you knowledgeable narration is fantastic. You make me want to get on a plane and visit all these places. Keep up the great work and I will remain a huge fan, thanks.
My mom worked at Cathedral for 25 years, so I heard a lot of ghost stories. And at the "new" Calvary cemetery, my Nana, Tata and Noni are buried there. :)
John Barrymore is one of my favourite actors 💕 Oh how I enjoy watching his movies. It’s sad though that he is no longer buried beside his brother and lost to his fans 😔
New sub here; binge watching your videos and thoroughly enjoying it! I don’t live far from Philadelphia. The cemetery where John Barrymore was relocated, Mount Vernon, is essentially abandoned and is locked 24/7. It’s in very poor condition. Incredibly sad.
ProperBiscuit Maybe you and some other people can get together and see if you can get access in some way and clean it up..I know that it's happened down here and some people went to the city and were able to get access and they went in and cleaned it up.
Cynthia Thomas There is a Friends of Mount Vernon group, but they have issues accessing the cemetery. Apparently, the owner is elderly and won’t let anyone in. There’s a lot of interest in it so hopefully one day it will be restored. It’s a beautiful cemetery!
ProperBiscuit Maybe if you go to the local media and see if they can do a story about the cemetery and see if that is helpful. I know that it has worked down here.
Finally, the Barrymores -if you can remember in your early videos,I suggested you to include the Barrymores,I think for two Hollywood graveyard videos. Anyways,is not that im desperately askin you for this arthur, but the barrymores were the first u.s. celefamily that I studied and I think that you should include this family of great stars,...one of the..... -Thank you for this Ardie...... sorry for nicknaming you like that. The Barrymores are worth to be recognized and for the millionth times, thank you for this!
I wish you could do one of the I Love Lucy cast (minus lucy, I saw her grave site, her body was moved to her hometown), Gimme a break ( Dolph sweet and Nell Carter), Diff'rent Strokes ( Conrad Bain, Gary Coleman and Dana Pluto) and Harlem Nights ( Redd Fox, Richard Pryor, Della Reese, Charlie Murphy and Robin Harris..
One of my dad's favorite videos of all time is one of the versions of "Who's On First?" I think it's the version you showed here on the video. If I recall correctly, it's the only video on RU-vid that can make him have a laugh attack. I've never seen him laugh that much. I think it will forever be one of the funniest pieces of comedy in the world, no competition. :)
Mary Philbin's Christine Daae is the most cautious Christine that I have seen! Did you see the way she approached The Phantom from the back? If only Emmy Rossum was as cautious when she played the role in 2004.
I would like to encourage your viewers to watch documentaries about Mabel Normand. She was truly the First Woman of Hollywood. Her life was like a marvelous movie with a sad ending. She and William Desmond Taylor were the best of friends and maybe soulmates. His death was the beginning of her downfall as the Hollywood machine turned its back on her. I am so pleased that she was entombed in such a beautiful place.
