And it’s hard to sing that first note. I heard that she never hit a wrong note. Well I’ve had my share!! The Carpenters were one of my favorite groups. I mourned the loss of her life.
What happened to Karen Carpenter was so sad and took away from the world an incredibly beautiful voice at the very young age of 32. I hope she is at peace now.
It is too bad that Karen Carpenter's tragic death brought to light that one cannot only treat anorexia nervous, but the psychology of what leads to anorexia nervous in the first place.
Karen Carpenter was one of the greatest singers (and drummer) of the 20th century. She is greatly missed; I'm glad you visited her final resting place.
I didnt imagine that America cemeteries were THAT beautiful. Some are real masterpieces of architecture. Your work is Great and worthy of praise and respect.
What a voice! Rosemary Clooney, Patsy Cline, Karen, Whitney Houston and Adele, the top 5 of all time! Sorry Barbara, Mariah and Celine you didn't make the cut, for limited range and bigger egos than talent.
Greta For sure. Male or female she had the most soothing and strongest angel voice on earth. One of a kind and a great loss for all of us. Not exaggerating!
Two things I like most about this channel are the historical flashbacks of people we brought into our homes and hearts and the reminder that in the end, we are all just human.
I miss Karen and the Reagan's even now. Karen especially because of her beautiful voice and songs. She's still one of my favorite Singers to this day. And Reagan starred in some of my favorite movies and his witty humor. . .especially his one liners that has me cracking up! I listen to then whenever I needed a cheer up.
Welcome back! A small story: After Ronald Reagan lay in state at the Capitol, his body was flown back to California in a 747 whose route took it on a very circuitous path across the United States (think sine wave vs. straight line), essentially trying to fly over as many states as possible before reaching his final resting place. A very 21st Century kind of farewell...I was an air traffic controller at the time, and got to monitor the jet as it passed through my airspace. Also, Artie Shaw's version of "Begin the Beguine" is, in my very humble opinion, one of the best Big band recordings ever. thank you for honoring him here.
Valley Oaks is where "My Three Sons" actor Don Grady (Agrati) was cremated. Don, who played Robbie Douglas, was also on the Mousketeers and was a gifted composer who wrote the theme song for Phil Donahue's talk show. Don passed after a battle with bone cancer in 2012. Sadly there is no marker. He will forever be remembered as America's favorite son.
Though her story is heartbreaking, many lives have been saved because of her death. Hardly anyone had heard of anorexia at the time. Her death brought it to the mainstream. I will be forever grateful that she and Richard made so many wonderful songs together while she was still with us.
I love your videos! Thank you so much for creating them and for educating us as well. The Carpenter mausoleum is beautiful. It’s a fitting tribute to such an amazing singer. Seeing where President and Mrs. Reagan rest was very nice. A piece of the Berlin Wall definitely deserved to be placed with President Reagan.
Thank you Arthur. It's been awhile. Bad time to bring this up but I'm still mourning the loss of Eddie Money and Valerie Harper..and now Ric Ocasek, lead singer from the rock band The Cars..
You are the best of the past that can ever, ever ,and can never be forgotten, thank you for sharing so much h of the most of of the of it with the world!😊💋👍
Your "Twilight Zone" themed show was fantastic! How about a "Dragnet" themed one next? You could play the roll of Joe Friday and someone else can play Bill Gannon as you solve the mysteries of where they are all buried. "Just the facts, ma'am"
@@whiterabbit-wo7hw Maybe I sparked the idea of the next theme. ;) I hope so. There are so many people to mention. And that is one of my favorite shows.
Karen Carpenter... what an extraordinary Lady... died too soon. Unforgotten. She's my Idol because of her friendly and warm-hearted being. Thank you, Karen. You brought so much joy to so many people. You are missed.
I'm a Big Band Era enthusiast, and I just want to say Thank You for always including these iconic musicians and band leaders in your videos! Because of people like you their memories and legacy's will live on...Thank You!!!
Karen Carpenter’s voice is so instantly recognizable. As soon as you hear her sing, you’re captivated by her perfect tone, her crystal clear articulation of the lyrics. Arguably the best female pop vocalist of all time.
I hadn't learned about your channel at the time this video was published, but I am so grateful you did an episode with Karen Carpenter. I've seen so many documentaries about The Carpenters, but not one of them (that I've seen) has shown her final resting place. It just dawned on me that you may have visited it in one of your episodes. You did! And I sincerely thank you for that. :D
Rafael Campos ( 3:51 ) was one of my favorite character actors. My two favorite performances (please don't make me choose which one is #1) is his big screen debut in 1955 as Pete V. Morales in "Blackboard Jungle" and in 1979 as Nacho Gomez in the TV miniseries "Centennial" based on the novel by James A. Michener. Both outstanding performances from this great actor. R.I.P. Rafael and thank you. You are missed greatly 😢.
I only have one thing to say: Thank God for Arthur Dark! I missed the music, the great photography, the superb, informative narratives, and the sound of Arthur Dark's voice. Arthur makes it look so easy with respect to producing these videos. Of course, it is always great talent and tremendous dedication which makes it look so easy. Thank you so much.
RR was the very first presidential candidate I even voted for in the 1976 Nebraska primary. He won Nebraska as I remember but lost the primary. I have always admired him for his conservative perspectives.
Welcome back from the Zone! Like so many others, I was delighted to see a new installment. Thank you for visiting Karen Carpenter’s grave. She had one of the most beautiful voices in music. The visit to the Reagan Library was informative. I especially like the panel of the Berlin Wall enshrined there. Keep up the good work ... and stay cool! 😁
Thanks for including Reagan. Greatest of American Presidents that change history. Rest in peace Gipper. We hope we can have a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Being a disabled person who lives in the uk I would probably never be able to get to the usa to visit my favorite stars final resting places please keep the videos coming they are awesome
Interesting about Nilsson. Never realized he had such a connection with the Beatles and his flat in England being the dying location for Cass and Moon. You learn so much about history by watching this channel. Good work!
I remember waiting 4 hours in line to see Reagan in Repose. On my way back, the lights from automobiles went on as far as the I could see...all coming to pay their respects. It reminded me of the final scene in “Field of Dreams.”
I. Could not believe that I was home and doing nothing when the notification popped up. Awesome for doing Karen Carpenter and fantastic memorial on Ronald Reagan and his late wife Nancy Reagan. Even Steve Forrest was a treat. Again awesome job
It is so great to have you back again Arthur. I love this channel as well, definitely my favorite. Now that we have been loosing some rock legends such as Eddie Money and Ric Ocasek which is really sad of for us music fans. It very hard to hear of their passing but with channels like this, it will be nice remember them along with their great music.
I know how much work these are so, I know all those who follow your channel really appreciate them. I jumped on this when I saw it pop up on my RU-vid list! When I first discovered you, I did nothing but watch them until I saw them all. Thanks again, for these and for showing me my lifelong fascination for prowling through graveyards isn’t so crazy! : )
Greetings once again from Merrie England. Glad you're back with another installment, Arthur. Best RU-vid channel there is without a doubt. Long may it continue.
Its hard to believe that just one man wrote such epic famous cartoon songs, The Flintstones, Jetsons, Josie & Pussycats, Scooby doo,, i grew up with all those shows. Thank You for covering such a great unrecognized man!
Wonderful to have you back, Arthur. Your tours are so informative, interesting and challenging. I love the way you care about the people whose graves you identify.
@@tinotse2007 Your Welcome. He Had A Heart Disease. But The Media Had Already, Said That It Was Suicide. That's Why I Don't Believe Everything, That The Media Say. Because That Was A Lie, Point Blank!!!
I've never clicked so fast! I've been waiting for this tour!! We finally get to visit two of my favorite people - Karen Carpenter & Ronald Reagan. Also Virginia Mayo. Thank you so much, Arthur, for allowing me to visit a place I may never see in person. You've just made my day. :)
Of many celebrity deaths that I would mourn the loss of over my lifetime, to this day, no celebrity death ever knocked the wind out of me as much as the death of Karen Carpenter. By the time her disease had kicked in, well, I had grown out of The Carpenters as my favorite (to put it in retrospect, I was 9 when "Close To You" was released), so I had no idea of anything being wrong. I would go to her viewing. And to give you some idea of just how much I was reeling from her death, it would take me YEARS to get the irony that when I went in to view her (there was only 2 people in the room with me, which gave me the opportunity to say goodbye to her by myself), I would not notice when I left that the day I went to view would happen to be Monday - and it was raining when I entered the chapel. And guess which song was my favorite Carpenter song? So I always saw that as a sign that Karen was there in spirit. I still miss her after all these years.
Another informative video. I knew that President Reagan had been an actor but never knew that Nancy Reagan had also been an actress. thank you for teaching me something new.
The Reagan Library is one of the most beautiful spots I’ve ever been. I’m from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and nothing is as pretty to me as my Mountains. But the view from Reagan’s gravesite is absolutely stunning.
Nice to see Cesare Danova included in this video (though, I believe his first name's pronounced Chez-a-ray)! I've been watching him in the short-lived '68 TV series called 'Garrison's Gorillas', to which I was recently introduced, and have been enjoying his performance thoroughly. He was also in Viva Las Vegas with Elvis!
Thanks again, Arthur, for another great guided tour. I remember the Carpenters and their great music from the 1970s and the day Karen Carpenter passed. So tragic. As you noted, she was buried in Forest Lawn Cypress initially, where my father-in-law is interred. He is across the road from an early rocker, Eddie Cochran, who did "Summertime Blues" among others.
Watching Nancy Reagan placing a single rose on Ronald's coffin once it reached the Memorial and burial place, her deep weeping and clinging to her husbands coffin ....it inspired me to write some lyrics to a song I later recorded....Have you ever been to the graveyard.....And watched a widow weep......And felt the spirit of sadness as He slowly creeps....over the souls of those standing by...as they hang their heads and cry.....Now She placed a rose on his coffin....As she stood there in black ..........and a tear rolled down her cheek, she knew her man wasn't coming back.....more lyrics are with this song....but some times things that are actually far out of your reach are close enough to take your feelings by storm. And those things spur a reaction that creates some poetic justice for what your seeing and encountering even on a televised grave yard scene. Nancy was truly beside herself....and in my song I also included this line....Now we all have our heroes and today her's is dead and gone.....and tomorrow without him she'll have to face life all alone......The tempo of living is so sweet to those who are connected by that Spiritual rib and marriage gave them a bond that was inseparable. Until death swept him away and her memories of him were all she now. When we get attached our lives become one flesh and that creates a tearing away with great agony when death occur's to one the spouses and the other is left behind. Now they are rejoined spiritually some where in the beyond again....
I loved the video! I love learning about stars I knew a few things about and discovering new ones! I've watched a few movies of silent film stars and others you've talked about in your videos! Thanks Arthur!
I worked at forest lawn cypress for the last few years Karen Carpenter was interred there. Got to hear stories about her services from people who were working there when it occurred. And hear some interesting stories like how her brother insisted she be removed from the crypt when each of their parents passed to ensure she was always at the front of the crypt. She always had the craziest fans around, one that even threatened my church group at the time that was meeting on the church in the grounds there. When her and her parents were being moved to their current location, my sis was working with me and saw all of caskets being moved.
My favorite was Kristoff St. John and his son. Neil is one of my favorite characters on the “Young & the Restless “!! He’s a favorite actor of mines! I was so shocked when he died! I truly feel he died of a broken 💔! He never got over the passing of his son!
Thank you for this video of Valley Valley Oaks Cemetery.. my parents are both buried there and I now live in Texas. This brought back great memories 🙏🙏🙏🙏
