Harpo. Duck Soup. Nuf said. I enjoyed You Bet Your Life in reruns in the 60's as well. They were also a favorite of my father, who passed his love of their comedy to me as a child. If you turn around from Groucho's resting place and look at the opposite wall, you would have seen my father's resting place. It is fitting they will spend eternity together. He would have loved knowing that. Rip Marx Brothers, you made many many people happy.

Harpo was my all time favorite. I read his autobiography when I was pretty young, maybe 10 or 12? My dad was a huge Marx Brothers fan, and took me to a film festival of their classic movies. I don't know how youtube took me here, but thanks!

I always remember back in around 1973 during the school Christmas holidays the Marx brothers films were shown every morning for around 2 weeks . I was only 9 years old at the time but I used to get up at 7 0'clock in the morning to watch them ...and even at such a young age I just sat there laughing. It was part of the build up to Christmas. I could never say what my favourite Marx brothers film was as to me they were fantastic...but I will say my least favourite was love happy. I always get my marx brothers DVD's out now and again and just sit there killing myself laughing. The Marx brothers were the greatest.

Same here. I became a fan when I was 14 or so. Of course I didn't understand all the jokes back then but of course loved Harpo's antics. Later I just found out why they were so great and understood Groucho's wisecracks. I was fortunate enough that I was introduced to them through my parents' great taste. But unfortunately most kids don't get to experience that and are simple never introduced to them. Maybe it's different in The US but here in The Netherlands those films simply hardly ever got shown, which is a great shame.

For me the Marx brothers and laurel and hardy were the greatest comic acts ever to grace the movies. I myself wasn't born until the 60s but I remember watching the movies on t.v. as a very young boy. No matter how many times you watch the Marx brothers or laurel and hardy movies you cannot help but laugh. Each brother was superb in their own role .

Thanks for your interesting videos. Living outside the US I would never get to see these final resting places otherwise. I don’t think it’s morbid curiosity, rather, for me, it’s being a fan of movie, music and tv stars. Harpo was my favourite Marx Brother. I love him playing the harp in each of their films. I read his autobiography. He actually was quite a clever man, a member of the famed Algonquin Club. He taught himself the harp when he discovered his grandmothers old harp. It was old and had no pedals. When he became a star he decided to have proper harp lessons and discovered that he had been playing it on the wrong shoulder. He could play any instrument - piano, harp, trumpet. Anything. I also liked cheeky Chico’s piano playing.

I completely agree with you about being a fan and wanting to keep their memory alive. I'm always surprised when I find out how talented some of these comics are. So many of them were brilliant, but ended up playing silly or dimwitted character. But if I had to choose between being smart and being able to make people laugh and smile, I'd always choose the later. He was truly blessed with many gifts. Thanks for watching and sharing your story!

Thanks for the tour, Steve - and just a few little bits of information. Harpo's ashes were indeed scattered at Tamarisk. According to what I've been told by family members, his ashes were lovingly worked into the seventh hole's sand trap. And the correct pronunciation of the eldest brother's name is "Chick-o" and NOT "Chee-ko." He received that name due to the fact he was a chick-chaser. And that's putting it politely. In terms of chronology, Milton (Gummo) left the act in 1918 when it was determined that one of the boys would have to join the (WWI) war effort; mom Minnie decided he was the least valuable to the act. Which was fine by him as he never really wanted to be IN the act. At that time 17-year-old Herbert was enlisted to replace Gummo as straight man - a full 11 years before their first film. Though the other four had already received their nicknames via a vaudeville monologist named Art Fisher during a poker game many years earlier, there are actually three stories about how Herbert became Zeppo - a name endowed upon him by his brothers. 1) The zeppelin, 2) the performing vaudeville chimp named "Mr. Zippo" (not Zeppo,) and finally: 3) during (roughly) the decade of the teens of the century, they were living in the Chicago area - and at one point, on a farm in LaGrange. It's been attributed to life on the farm, during which the brothers referred to one another by 'rube' names, Zeb, Zep - and it's believed "Zeppo" was merely an "o" version of his farm name. And from (again) family lore passed on to me, Zeppo - though forced into the thankless straight man role in the act, was actually the funniest of the five offstage. Which may have been part of the reason HE couldn't wait to jump ship when their five-film Paramount contract ended in 1933.

I love the bros so much. Many years ago I went to. Their childhood home in NYC an old building by central park. By total fluke a resident of the building asked us what we were doing because we were taking pics of the building. We explained we were fans and we got to go inside the building. They apparently lived on the top floor. But inside the hallway we saw the famous groucho tiles that he had put in after they gained success he went back and fixed the building up a bit. It was amazing. I adore Harpo. Harpo speaks is one of the best books I've ever read. I have heard that Harpos ashes besides the golf course were also scattered at a cemetery but I can't recall which one.

Great Video. My favorite Marx Brother was Groucho. I liked all of them, but, he was the whole reason, my wit is what it is this day. My favorite Marx Brothers movie is Duck Soup. Not many people know this, but, it has been said that, in Real Life, the funniest was Zeppo, which, if you see The Take A Letter Jamison Scene, Zeppo steals the scene from Groucho in a memorable scene, in which it appears that Zeppo did some Ad Libbing & one-upped his brother, Groucho.

Speaking of Country Clubs there is a story rightfully or wrongfully attributed to Groucho Marx. It seems that Groucho wanted to join a country club so he went to the club and introduced himself and said that he would like to join the club, but he didn't golf . He and his family just wanted to join to use the pool and swim. He was told that he could not join because the club did not accept Jews. To which Groucho replied that his daughter Melinda was only half Jewish and asked if she could join and just wade in the pool.

LOL, loved his humor. From what I've read, back in the 50s the country clubs in the Palm Springs area did not allow Jews, so that's why the Marx brothers helped to start the Tamarisk Country Club as a club open to Jewish people. Then and now, discrimination of any kind just blows my mind.

Yes, when you mentioned that the Marx Brothers helped found Tamarisk that reminded me of the story.

Bill Grandone He also jokingly said that he would never want to belong to a club that would have the likes of him as a member.

Interesting that the family chose to remember the brothers with their theatrical names rather than their "legal" names. Today, both birth name and "celebrity" name seem to be used.

Being a big fan of the Marx Brothers, I really wish people would pronounce Chico's name correctly. It's pronounce Chick-o, not Cheeck-o. He got his nickname, because of his success with the ladies. He chased women. (Chicks) They called him the chicken chaser.

Thanks, Venom. It's just a habit. I've always pronounced it incorrectly, not knowing the origin. Thanks for the correction.
