Fan Expo Philadelphia May 2024 (Rainn Wilson, Hayden Christensen, and RANT!)

we went to fanexpo philly 2023 and it was rough for us. it was so disorganized and chaotic, con officials were rude, and it was just a mess. if one can afford VIP it seems to be worth at as in most lines, the VIP line had to be empty for them them to let any non-vip people in… but it seems nothing changed between last year and this year.

Great haul Cameron! Sorry that I wasn’t able to catch you! Sorry to hear how hectic it was for you. I personally had a blast but then again maybe that’s because I went Friday and the crowd was huge but not overly crowded. I met Dana Barron, Ethan Suplee, and Brandon Rogers! Dana funny enough I got her to sign my DVD of Python lol! I always thought that was such a fun flick and she couldn’t believe someone would bring up that for her lol! She was probably my favorite meet of the con! Ethan was super cool! Got to add him next to Jeremy London on my Mallrats photo! Brandon Rogers is a hilarious RU-vidr and was a fun down to earth guy to meet! Hope to see you at the next one down the road!

I remember when I went to visit New Orleans at the beginning of this year, Fan Expo New Orleans was happening during the same time. It was really brutal not being able to go, especially for someone who loves to go to conventions. Not only was it a five minute walk from my hotel, but Bruce Campbell was one of the guests, and he's like at the top of my list of guests I wanna meet.

Yo, PREACH! I went to the Philly one last year to meet Charlie Cox and the Back to the future cast. Charlie is hands down the nicest dude you can meet. And I’m sure the same can be said about the BTTF cast but the expo’s management doesn’t even give you a chance to say hi, thank you, or anything. They just yell at you and rush you to get through the line which was a nightmare considering there was NO organization what so ever. And the price to even be there for anything is the cherry on top. I’m never going there again lol.

Hey Cameron it's Coby again! 😊 I never knew Hayden Christensen was in Goosebumps! I love that episode, Night of the Living Dummy Part 3! You're so lucky that you got to meet both Hayden and Rainn Wilson! Love to see them someday but man I feel so bad that your day got taken up.

One con here, I got kicked out because they didn't give people the right passes and I think I had to pay again. It was awful trying to explain. Also someone hit a power pole and knocked out power to the whole con. And.... a famous wrestler died and all the WWE cancelled and guests left early. Then when I got home, I found my comics were messed up as I didn't see the damage in the dark convention hall. So all in all. It sucked. Kimberly Leemans did sign my photo and I think I got a free photo op. They even spelled one of the guests names wrong on the banner.

Cam, how do you get your videos with the people you meet? im surprised you never get in trouble for doing that

Hi Cameron, I love your convention videos! I feel like regular comic cons and fan expos are hit or miss in terms of how well they're run. I'm spoiled with horror conventions. I feel like they're managed better, but then again, they're not huge cons. One year I got in line to meet Sam Raimi at Son of Monsterpalooza and his line was out the door. The volunteers moved us into the shade and were like, "I'm just going to be real. He won't be in until 11:30am (2 hours from now), then he will probably take a lunch at 12:30 and then he has photo ops from 2-3:30 and by the time he gets to this part of the line it'll be 5pm. If you're okay with that that's fine. If not, I'd recommend not missing out on an entire day and go explore the convention." I really appreciated the transparency. I got out of line and enjoyed the rest of the con. Ended up meeting Ted Raimi who had no line who was in the same room as Sam so I at least got to see him.

Hey Cam, another great video, i was on the fence about Fan Expo as i had a feeling Hayden would be an insane line, i ended up passing on it as I went to Chiller the week prior. Did you end up going to Chiller? It was insane Saturday due to Shatner

Props to you for handling that line man. I went on Saturday last year and it was chaotic and so disorganized but Sunday for some bizarre reason this year it was more calm than the day before. I talked to a couple people at the convention on Sunday (staff, people who I met in lines for photo ops) and everyone who I talked to said May 4th was a mad house. I guess because Hayden was only there Saturday plus the addition of Rosario Dawson as well was the reason it was a mad house where as Sunday I think the most popular celebrity was Rainn Wilson (though Cameron Monaghan might have been a close second). Like I said props to you for handling that Saturday man, I would’ve lost it if I had to wait nearly 7 hours in line for an autograph

last year fan expo Philly was beyond amazing and efficient hour tops on line (Hayden) so I went again this year OMG it was horrible my day was on line just like you. Hayden very nice not his fault.

I’m heading to fan expo Boston this June. Jodi benson is the one I’m excited to meet the most

$225 + is ridiculous for Hayden Christensen....

There is something awkward about these Fan Expos. I get it all about opportunity and economics right. Theres an element of actors being paraded around in the zoo kind of feel to all of this. I Understand signing autographs for a fee is part of their revenue stream and they have an opportunity to make some income from these events, but what does it say about our culture and the dynamics of para social relationships when we are willing to give up hours of our time and significant amount of our money for brief interactions with public figures. Look if you enjoy meeting your idols and this provides you with this opportunity all the power to you.
