Welcome to the Letterman RU-vid Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. A followup three years later - During his first Late Night appearance on July 24, 1986, George Clinton clarified the various personnel on the LP and declared that both parties were actually correct. (It was while he was reading his own Top Ten list.) I believe there’s a clip of it somewhere on the RU-vids…

The episode with Robert Clint, er- Robert Klein is my favorite of them all. I caught it as a rerun during Hal Gurnee week. Just pure chaos. I always wondered what the Melman reference meant during George's top ten. I had an idea, but nice to finally see it. Barely related: you should do a supercut of intros before Late Night repeats.

@@granthorne3526 I had planned a compilation of every “Intro to Repeat” clip, but time ran out, and, unfortunately, that won’t happen now. I tweeted a sample the beginning of 2021. I’ll see if I can find it.

This is the second time Dave and Paul get held up at gunpoint by a staffer. In Melman's favor, he handles that gun better than he handled the microphone at the Port Authority.

The opening line of this bit and the way it's delivered, is quintessential Letterman humor. He says the following in the most serous, deadpan manner possible: "Folks, Thank you very much for coming. If you want to go up to the 14th floor, they're drawing for dinner with Sue Simmons". For those who don't know Sue Simmons was a news anchor in NYC forever. Just the notion that they were having a nactual contest to eat dinner with her and that eager fans might want to run up to the 14th floor to participate, and stating that in such a serous matter of fact way, had me in hysterics. To most it might not even be apparent it's a joke, but to me that dry, absurd, sarcatic humor is what I love about Letterman.
@OMGWTFLOLSMH
@OMGWTFLOLSMH 2 года назад
I got the joke, but it was hardly hysterical. Maybe your funnybone is broken.
@fightlies
@fightlies 2 года назад
the way you go on and on about how hysterical it was with the explaining of the background for those who don't live in nyc was way funnier than the actual delivery by dave. you really didn't have to write an entire essay explaining the joke. i'm just wondering why i'm even bothering taking the time explaining myself.

They're talking Funkadelic.....in '83. Fantastic. The audience was crickets and it doesn't even matter. This show is so imitated, I can't even get over it. They're talking Eddie Hazel....in 1983! On NBC. Unbelievable.

I read an article that the NBC record archive on the 7th floor of 30 Rock was completely digitized and they tossed all of those albums. All of the tape and film libraries were digitized too. They even got rid of all the old percussion instruments used for sound effects in the radio days. Tens of thousands of dollars worth of instruments thrown in the trash.

Very unlikely. They might have gotten rid of the albums, but could have easily found a new home for them. People will gobble up old stuff being given away.

"Cut 6" sure sounds an awful lot like The Price Is Right's "Cliffhangers" music... which, in fact, happens to be a clip from "On The Franches Mountains" by Jura Orchestra from the 1957 compilation album "Swiss Mountain Music." And yes, I *am* intentionally being meta.
