A tip. My SQ1.5 arrived with the H/sequential slider not working properly and an occasional missed shift. Missed shift got progressively worse until it became unusable. Just last night I watched Barry Rowland's SRG strip down and then took it apart myself. For a piece of precision equipment, it was unacceptably contaminated with manufacturing debris. Good news however, cleaning out the plastic dust and lumps of plastic fixed it all. It's now cleaned internally, re- lubricated, put back together and operating like intended. Beautifully. I'm pretty sure now that most of the problems people have with this shifter is related to Chinese manufacturing standards.
The spring for sequential broke after a few hours Dirt Rally here and I don't recommend to use any of their stuff without a Fanatec base. Horrible experience.
Not only did Ermin do a bang up job with the unboxing and review, he actually won a race AND beat his personal best on that Kiwi DR2 stage! LMFAO. All while gasbagging and somewhat making sense! Nice job Ermz. Side note: My shifter also has a small amount of play - less than my real car does (Hyundai I30 N) so I'm okay with it - seems realistic to me.
Word of warning about the shifter's reliability: The shifter quite often develops mis-shifting issues over time. There's a few fixes available, and I've tried them all, but the shifter still randomly engages reverse when trying to shift to first or third gear. Hopefully Fanatec finds a fix for future shifters.
It’s horrible shifter because of that. I had two fail on me. I had them both repaired by Fanatec and one failed a second time. I ended up selling the other cause I knew what was coming. It was inevitable. It was gonna fail again.
@@OhItsThat if mine will fail outside warranty I will try this fix ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-16SoByd8ycg.html I don't like the cheap feeling one from thrustmasters and Pro-Sim H Shifter at 1200 eur is overkill but who knows in the future I might get it
I also have the GTtrack and Fanatec shifter and hand break. I have the hand break mounted to the side of the shifter. The hand break is on the inside and the shifter on the outside. The break assembly is mounted at about a 45 degree angle with the "F" logo pointing rearward toward the driver. The knee of the break handle is also in the stock position and also pointing rearward toward the driver.
Great shifter. I was getting mis shifts often for a while, but i fixed it with a "tape mod" fix i found on youtube - just a piece or tape inside. It actually worked, never missed a shift since.
I had both and sold the handbrake after 4 weeks and replaced the CSS against a Frex H-shifter this year. Finally Fanatec-free and better don't ask why I'm happy about it.
That rotational play annoys me on my SQ1.5 and I had to regrease the H pattern gate after about 4 months as it started feeling rather rough. Now it's smooth as butter and I do absolutely love it.
@@SIMRIG412 aren't you a happy little troll. If you read my comment staying the fact that I did regrease it you ....oh wait, your too stupid to comprehend aren't you 🤣
That'll teach me to reply before watching all of the video, stick a ring spanner on the end of the Allen key for more leverage and give it some welly...
I've had really good experiences using Fanatec products, the shifter most importantly. However, after 5 years of use (yes, its expensive to buy here in Malaysia so I cannot easily change parts yearly) the spring inside the shifter broke in half. After contacting Fanatec, I wanted to buy a bunch of springs so that I can get a replacement faster the next time, but they only allow me to buy only one. And the shipping cost on the other hand is 70 times the price of the spring it self, at 74 euros. I'm currently stuck, not sure how to make this good again. even the rubber band mod doesn't work as well as it was. Just so you know Ermin.
Damn, I'm completely new to sim racing and driving in general; and I'm from Malaysia too. Was looking into Fanatec stuff, but it sucks everything is marked up in Malaysia, having them shipped from overseas incurs expensive delivery and import duty.
Ermin, if you are going to race AC more, try the fantastic classic touring cars free mods 'Touring Cars Legends' and 'TransAm Legends'. Lots of classic touring cars. They are great. Cheers.
Reading the comments there seems to be mixed reviews on the shifter, I've never had any problems with mine, I reckon it's a solid well built device. The handbrake on the other hand (pardon the pun) I struggled with for far too long. weird grounding or EMI issues, shitty little pot inside and it's just flimsy. Pulled it apart way too many times to try and figure out why it didn't want to work today. Upgraded to the Heusinkveld handbrake and never looked back.
As per other comments here, the shifter does not age well. I also tried a variety of fixes. I've given up using it now altogether, had it 18 months, it was screwy after 6. Fanatec's advice was provide a secondary ground - made no difference. Tape mod worked for a week or two. Repeated the tape mod when it played up again but no good.
8:15 I think that's because you have the shifter with the ball on top instead of the default rounded of stick it comes with so it might not have been made to fully adapt to it.
Hey Ermz, not sure if the TH8A is way overpriced over there, or you guys get an amazing price on the CS Shifter but in the UK at least the Fanatec one is literally nearly 3 times more expensive, which is why I still use the TH8A 😂.. Though I do quite like the handbrake for DR2. which by the way it would be way cool if ya started a DR2 Ermz subscriber club x
I noticed that to, I really like the channel but when people get free stuff to review and come out with that kind of stuff it inspires little confidence
Hey folks. Both shifter prices here in Aus: www.jbhifi.com.au/products/thrustmaster-th8a-shifter-add-on fanatec.com/au-en/shifters-others/clubsport-shifter-sq-v-1.5
wow, Ermin u poor soul... Guess was the first option then hey.. love your country man, but ya prices sometimes are insane as Dave states hehe.. I paid £90 for TH8A like 5 years ago, and I think that was well overpriced, defo would go with the CS Shifter if I was an Aussie then 😀
You were saying the shifter shaft rotates, that's exactly what was wrong with mine and the actual shaft is broken at the base. During a shift into 5th during a rally, the shaft went flying 3ft in the air. Your unit's already broken. It will break off. Also, the mis-shifts are terrible and frequent, and reverse is in the wrong location.Your better off with the thrustmaster. One more thing, why isn't rally one of your main preferences on your channel? Doesn't make any sense. Let's see some more rally, Ermin! Take care.
I wouldn’t buy one of those shifters. Yes they are the best at that price point but they will fail. I’ve owned two and both failed. One of them failed twice.
Clubsport sequential seems faster than the H shifter, lady maybe , maybe Danica or Simona de Silvestro will smoke you on the track, shifter position is too low inverted handbrake position looks better
Ww Jnz i think how he doesn't mention that tho and to say the TM takes 10 to 15 minutes to go from H pattern to Seq is another stretch. Fanatec sell out and the affiliate link at the end was maybe why
Ermin, now that you have a H pattern shifter and love (in your own weird way) rFactor2 I would advise you to run these cars steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1447073704 on Bridgehampton with the AI set to 110-115 it's party time starting on the back of the grid. The default setup needs a little bit of work but once you get the feel for these GTO's they are the best. Please try them!
@@Ermz tbh, i feel it is much better in h-pattern, the throw might be massive, but it is easy enough to shift, sequential mode simply feels awfull, it works, but that hard mushy feeling is nearly the opposite of an actual sequential, which feels crisp and mechanical (and much lighter than one expects before you actually switch gears), everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but i feel the only proper use for the th8a is as a h-pattern (btw, there are some russian guys that made a really nice sequential that is just about the same price as the th8a and clubsport sq, yet much smaller, have yet to try it, but the general consensus is that it is great)
@@Ermz I use the TH8A in H-pattern quite a bit and I actually like it. Although I have a Clix Beetle mod to improve feel and a Ricomotech mod to reduce the shifter throw. To be fair it's all I know, this review has me wishing a could try the Fanatec, although maybe is best that I don't try it. 😅
The TH8 shifter is a bit weak feeling out of the box but I have found the nox3d is a good mod for resistance (I have tried every type of this mod 😩) I have short shaft and sparco knob and a Mac racing aluminium short shifter plate as I didn’t like the ricmotec spacer then to increase the side to side resistance you can put 2 M4 ? screws (same as holds plate down) into the tapped holes above 3rd and below 4th and hook over 2 expansion springs one either side of shaft this gives great side resistance or you could use hair bands or rubber bands but they will wear out and the ricmotec sequential mod is a good shout if you are in the ecosystem I have mine connected to the TGT base then the H pattern on usb so I’ve always got paddles and sequential mapped together (luckily in uk I bought 2 th8a s cheaper than sq 1.5 but probably not after what I’ve spent on modding them 🤔)
A dog leg gearbox (in short: dog box) is a racing H-pattern gear box where first gear is in the lower left position, second gear in top middle position, third gear in the lower middle position, fourth gear top right and so on. ;) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-leg_gearbox
These pieces of fanatec equipment are mediocre, at best. They're VERY expensive and workmanship is shoddy. Both of mine broke within a month of constant usage, and it's a PAIN-IN-THE-ASS to get them replaced. I know everything is in short supply right now, but avoid these products. My advice is to get them second-hand, do not pay full price, or avoid them like covid-19! If you're looking at fanatec for anything, look for much better equipment that's out there, that's actually worth the money. Not recommended at all, please, save your money. Hate fanatec reviews, but I know you have to make a living.
I wouldn't call it almost identical at £280 for the Fanatec vs £170 for the TM.... 😂 Also the TM doenst take 10 to 15 minutes to change to Seq it take maybe 2 mins maximum. Feel this was a fanatec sell out mate. From saying the shifters are almost identical in price when it is almost 50% more exspensive and to say the TM takes 10 to 15 mins to change from H pattern to Seq again incorrect unless you make a coffee in between. This is not my opinion but the truth I have the Fanatec shifter and also used to own the TM and love my Fanatec but be honest or if not sure do research before telling people miss information
