Hey Shaun, felt like you didn't cover some stuff too well in the review or I completely missed them. Sorry if I did. - How is the torque vs. CSW V2.5? How much is the FFB motor detuned? - How is the performance with the heavier, more sturdy Clubsport Wheel Rims such as the BMW GT2 ring or the Porsche 919 RSR wheel rim compared to CSW V2.5 performance. Preferably would hear your opinion of iRacing FFB. Thanks.
Most of the flex is coming from your cockpit's structure and not the wheel base itself, at least the vertical movements certainly are. It would be more accurate to test that flex on a much more solid base.
Hi mate. How you getting on with Elite on GT Sport? This review is now a year and a half old - any changes? I've just ordered mine, with CSL Elite LC pedals. Super excited!
weepingeye I love it! The FFB is amazing and plenty strong. I know exactly what the car is doing. The rim has grown on me, it is light and comfortable. I also got the CSL Elite pedals with the load cell and they also are amazing. The load cell makes all the difference. The wheel and pedal set, coupled with my 40 inch 4K HDR TV have breathed new life into GT Sport for me.
When I get any rim flex with this wheel then I know I need to tighten the QR bolt up a bit, it works loose over time and that results in unwanted movement. With it nicely cinched up I get no flex at all. Also, if the wheel is making a knocking noise over kerbs etc, it's probably the FFB clipping, tune that out and it feels fantastic and is as quiet as a mouse.
The rim is secured in place by a bolt through a metal clamp on the 'QR' rim's shaft into the steering column on the base. If the rim is moving then just re-tighten the bolt as per the instructions from Fanatec.
Savoury Curtains Does tightening the bolt remove all of the wheel flex? Also, how often does it tend to work loose? I'm very close to buying this base, but after seeing 2 reviews mentioning the side to side rocking of the wheel it got me a little worried. I really dont want any of that looseness in the steering column. Cheers from a fellow Scot! ⚔
Fit like Hornet, with the bolt snugged up I get no flex at all bud. I usually tighten it once a week or so... if I remember! The wheel is exceptional, I have no complaints about it whatsoever... FFB is superb, build is superb, rim is superb... I love it.
Guess I should have paid closer attention to this review. I didn't realize this wheel lacked one of the most important options my old CSR had, Linearity.
Thank you for the review and great level of detail. I was looking for a ps4 compatible wheel upgrade from cheapish T150. I don't like small wheel rims 28cm and looking for more real life sized wheel. Then I was disappointed to see the new thrustmaster wheel for GT sport to be so small (don't understand that at all, big fail). Glad Fanatec came with a ps4 wheel with a good size rim and quality. Thanks for helping me out with the details. I hope it comes out soon in the US.
I had this wheel for two weeks now and it worked fine. Today it clicked and jumped from PC mode to XBox during practice without hitting any buttons. Since then, the resistence in the wheel is gone. I tried reinstalling the drivers, flashed the firmware and nothing worked so I wrote to Fanatec to ask for help. The wheel feels like butter, way too loose and iceskate-like feel. The in-game settings force me to use FF, but before this happened I did not use it. I've been at this all day and can't get the wheel back to the way it was. Can't seem to figure it out.
Jefferson Lambert you have the ps4 elite or Xbox elite? were you playing on pc when it happened? And if so you must have been using an Xbox wheel rim right? I am just curious of the details and how it might have happened. did you ever figure it out?
Nice review! Definitely like the plain look of this base. I'd never purchase the other because of the face plate but this one looks OK for the price. Fanatec ought to hurry up with their DD wheel. I am about to pull the trigger on my G27 upgrade and it's going to be DD wheel.
the force feedback isn't strong as strong as a dd but I only had it at 10 percent. turn the road feed back up on asseto and ffb it'll break your shit off. I've only got an old t300rs set up with pro peds n shifter and it can be unrealistically strong when it's turned up. I find road feed back 60 and ffb 55 feels pretty good
Would be nice to compare with some other wheels like G-29,T300 or even with the new T-GT since is not direct drive. I got last year the T300 Ferrari Alcantara which I like very much but I am always open minded for something new and better.
I agree. I'm lost in all this mess. I just bought a G29, then saw the T500RS and bought that. Now I'm thinking about the fanatic... There needs to be an all encompassing video that shows you the prices and pros and cons of each wheel. This is getting ridiculous.
Balto D g29 uses helical gear tech and forcefeedback feels like mechanic toys but Fanatec uses belt driven tech and forcefeedback feels much realistic.
Balto D Stick with the T500 if you like it. I had 2 different Fanatic wheels and the clubsport pedals a handful of years ago, I liked them but they eventually had problems. I sold them and bought the T500RS F1 wheel back when it came out 3 or 4 years ago, haven't had any problems, it is actually a better base and wheel (I recently bought the add on 599 alcantara rim and love it) in my opinion.
Hi Shaun. First of all, thank you for your extensive and good review of this wheel. I have one question, do you feel that this wheel base is better than CSL Elite for xBox One ?
Shawn, the original CSL isn't an "Xbox One" wheel base. The P1 wheel or Xbox U-Hub grant Xbox One compatibility. Saying the original CSL base is an "Xbox One" base is not quite accurate.
I am also currently running the T300 and would be interested in more opinions. Is the Fanatec worth an upgrade? I already got the CSL pedals without LC and they are way better than the stock T300 pedals.
Great video! I have two important questions for you: The wheel base rev leds sometimes get blocked in iRacing? For exemple: Sometimes you up-shift and leds dont disappear. Is this normal in iRacing? Wheel base rev leds doesnt work in Assetto Corsa? Thank you
looks really good but I'm surprised at the flex in the wheel . You said there was a little bit of flex but looked like the wheel was swinging all over the place. something needs to be looked at there I think.
So if you're not bothered about price, would you pick the CSL Elite or the TGT 700.. Baring in mind they both have gearing/drive issues of their own Belt slip or feeling the individual cogs in the thrustmaster. I just want the better quality one as anyone would. Please help?? I'm building my own simrig.
Thnx Shaun. Seems like this wheel base will solve the issue i have...that is fanatec CSP V3 pedals connected to T300rs wheel base and Ferrari 599 rim that are mainly used on PC. The csl elite ps4 will address that to play on PC and PS4. Wish the 2.5 wheel base was compatible because i was ready to pull the trigger but i need to play with friends on ps4 as well. Realty Hope the t300rs is not better than the csl slite ps4 to feel like an upgrade for now.
I've been thinking about upgrading my wheel to one of the newer Fanatec wheels. I currently have a Porsche Turbo S. My biggest question is if the original clubsport pedals can be used with the newer wheels. It has the old PS/2 connector and I'm not sure if you can disconnect the cable itself at the pedals and I can't check without unmounting them from my seat. Anybody have experience with using the original clubsport pedals on newer wheels?
The up,down, left, right toggle has collapsed already on my rim and i've hardly used it so i can't change settings on the fly. Really poor build quality.
Have you contacted Fanatec yet? What did they say if so? I remember when I first got my CSR a week in and the rumble motor in the rim broke free and was rattling. I was pissed, but Fanatec replaced the whole rim without an argument and didn't even make me send the old one back to them. I've had my CSR for 5 years now and that's the only issue I had with it. I was worried about build quality at first too but sometimes things break especially when its a new item.
So all I need is this base and the Xbox one wheel rim connected to this base and it will work on Xbox one? Also if the pedals are connected to the ps4 base and I'm running the Xbox one wheel rim would the Xbox recognize the pedals since they are connected to the ps4 base?? Plz answer
Hi, have you a good FFB Setup for Raceroom , Assetto Corsa , PJ Cars 2 - PC Version ( in Game) and on the CSL Base? I have not a good steering feel Thanks
Can anyone who has this rim say how it compares to the Thrustmaster T300. I like the FFB of the T300, but really like the idea of the rev lights and rims, plus the fact it will be compatible with the Xbox One X.
the video talk alot about the wheel and how it feels, but you didn show how you calibrated it, i have the same wheel and i am having troubles calibrating it to the game ( dirt Rally),and Fanatec dont have a good customer support team here in Australia that can help
So I still use the G25 wheel. I want to upgrade my wheel and stay with the PS4, would you recommend this wheel or should I just stick with the G25 (I use my G25 on my PS4 just fine). Basically I want to know how this wheel compares to the Logitech G25.
I just ordered the t300 wheel base, the t3pa pro, and the Ferrari alcantara rim. They went on sale on Amazon enough so when bought separately it came out to the same price as the standard t300 alcantara set (wanted the t3pa pro). But after seeing this and hearing about the t gt wheel is it worth holding out for one of those? It's my first racing set up and I plan on getting a ps4. If I end up getting really into it then maybe a PC set up eventually.
hi shaun I currently have a Logitech g29 s the fanatic csl elite wheel better than my g29 ? if so would I notice a huge difference I mostly play dirt rally F1 2016 soon F1 2017 and project cars on ps4 pro I don't know wether to change to fanatic ??? love all yr reviews far better than the mono drones on inside sim racing at least you smile and chuckle lol cheersTerry from the uk
Hi Shaun, Thank you for another great and very informative product review. I really enjoy your thorough and enthusiastic approach. I do have a dilemma in which wheel base to buy and thought I'd ask you just out of curiosity,... If you had choose between the Fanatec CSL Elite with its dedicated PS4/Game developers compatibility or a Fanatec Clubsport V2.5 using a CronusMax Plus (for obvious 'unofficial' PS4 compatibility) which one would you pick (would also be used for Xbox One and Xbox One X when it arrives, with a Xbox supported wheel) and eventually PC. The money side of this dilemma is not the key factor, but more of a question of; the best wheel base to buy for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. I hope this question isn't like asking you what colour car I should buy, but any opinions you may have might help me with my decision. Thanks and Regards Paul
I am going to buy a cheep wheel for now for the rig i am ordering then decided between fanatec CSL, or the new Thrustmaster T -GT, when they become available in North America. I am scared to spend the $466 on the VG T300 Ferrari Alcantara Edition Racing Wheel for PS4, PS3 and PC, due to the bad reviews on Amazon, many say it brakes it self when calibrating at every start up, and they complain thrustmaster warranty is a nightmare dealing with customer service, they have people on there that bought it in April 2017 and its broken already, and thrustmaster wont replace it. So I will go with a cheep wheel until these new wheels come out. Thanks for the presentation. I want oculus VR as well for PC iracing.
I just tested mine on iRacing... not bad, totally different than g27 and g29 which I'm more used too... but It was turning itself off (and wouldn't turn back on) if I played with any of the out of game windows settings or changed the Mode back and forth, it even randomly turned itself off when I did the FFB test ... really? wtf? ... really scared me. Still have my fingers crossed that this thing won't be a huge headache for the huge amount of money it costs to import this to canada... expect to practically pay double the list price after exchange, shipping and taxes.... if its 470 online ... is it really worth like 800 Canadian after all that? .. I'll let you know but I doubt it
Now you should get the xbox one version in also justin case because there system is now the v1.1 so it's also different form the first release version that worked on both consoles so yeah do that so we can know how good that one is also doen tho it probably isnt like thrustmaster where there all supposedly the same even tho slightly different fnastec probably is the same on both that's a good thing tho
i am sure when some one pays 700+ for a racing wheel it must be a die hard sim racer and does are on pc. So it's better to say it's a pc wheel and you also can use it with a ps4 if you have one at home. Console users won't buy this. I bought a T300 for 320 or something and thats more then enough foe ps4.
Crruze Gaming The base. the plastic build quality seems to amplify it. I'm getting rid as soon as I get the rim fixed/replaced and either getting a second hand V2 or a new V2.5. I regret selling my old V2 now just for the PS4 compatibility.
