I short look at how simple it is to keep your Fanatec equipment up to date.
As most of my viewers know I’m using all my Fanatec equipment on Xbox One X.
Thanks to those who mentioned a small error in my first video which prompted me to do this one.

Thanks for this. I don't have your wheel but a CSL Elite for PS4 and been searching high and low for a tutorial to install the driver/firmware that was easy to follow without much success. Though your wheel and console is different your clear step by step instructions made it easier for me to understand what to do.

You should update your base before setting it up for the first time yes. But I don’t continually update it if I’m happy with how it feels.

@@antpolito7673 I don't think it's absolutely mandatory but it's advised because the updated drivers are released to address certain issues or developments.

I’ve updated the driver before and it sounded terrible & gone back to a previous firmware. I’ve started to think if it feels good then just leave it. If you have a game that’s suffering and it feels weird then it might be worth updating. For now I’m happy with the current firmware I’m running. Hey thanks for this video, I'm looking to buy Fanatec but was a bit worried about the updates as I'm a mac user. I noticed you were using a notebook, do you install via usb ? Also I read somewhere that you can use a tablet do you know how that works ?

ZAZZA RACING TEAM I’m not sure if you’d be able to use a tablet but I’m sure you must be able to still use a Mac to do these updates. But yes I’m just doing it using a usb but make sure you download the right format for your pc 64Bit or 32bit 👍🏼

Jay Sysum a.k.a Rat Master 3 cheers, unfortunately no Mac support but their website says you can update via a PC or tablet, which confused me as I was thinking how does a table update the driver ?... I‘ve been looking and there are some tablets with full size USB ports so I’m thinking that’s how it’s done. Think I might just buy a cheap notebook. Thanks for your help 🙌

ZAZZA RACING TEAM Cheers bud... sorry I couldn’t help out further but it’s kinda disappointing there’s no Mac support...? Net books are dirt cheap these days anyway.

Jay Sysum a.k.a Rat Master 3 might have found another solution which is Bootcamp for Mac. So if anyone comes to you in the future you could point them down that route 🤞😁 but yeah if that doesn’t work a cheap notebook should do the trick 😁

You can do it on a lap top no problem... I’m using a little net book. Just make sure you choose the right bit format.

For the ps5, Xbox & pc… whatever platform you’re using you’ll need a pc or laptop to upload the firmware to your Fanatec equipment yes.

What wheel do you have ? What pc are you using ? You can’t just install a driver directly onto your wheel using the PS4 Have a look in your pc’s settings menu’s to find out what operating system your pc is running. This will usually be under a section about your pc details.

@@jaysysumakaRatMaster3 There’s a 2019 and 2020 software. I think I’ll choose the newest. Other than that I go about the same way as you did for updating?

Yes. Install the latest or biggest numbered driver that’s there. Probably the 64Bit version of your on a pc. Then when you have your wheel, connect it to the pc and follow the video 👍🏼

Hard on the Gas Gtboyz I don’t see why not. Just make a note of your current firmware or driver and motor numbers when you power up your wheel. Just in case you don’t like the new driver you install. Every instruction I get from Fanatec says to update the base WITHOUT the rim attached. I can't get the update to finish correctly because it won't update the motor firmware. So I end up with the base itself updated but not the motor so the wheel will not come out of PC mode and go into Xbox mode. Sent it off to Fanatec they claimed it was repaired, got it back and it still does the same thing.

@@jaysysumakaRatMaster3 I get the blinking blue light that it's updating, the wheel restarts then cocks over to the left, the message says the firmware has been updated, and that's as far as it goes. I can restart the wheel with the rim attached and it still will not come out of PC mode and go into Xbox mode. Go into the Fanatec update menu and the base shows green with the latest version, rim shows green with the latest version, but motor is red and says there's an update available but it will not install it.

You can manually choose to update the motor by downloading the driver from the Fanatec website. Choose to select the file .hec rather than flash the firmware. Once downloaded you’ll still need to calibrate the wheel if it’s still cocked over to one side. Download the manual for whichever base you have to be able to go through the manual calibration sequence.

When I update the firmware and reset pc it gives me the wheel firmware icon when I select this it does offer the wheel update it does show a picture of the universal hub but not the wheel I’ve got the leather forza motorsport wheel but doesn’t show this picture just the pic of the universal hub and does not offer me the option to update the wheel. Any ideas mate

I’m guessing the wheel doesn’t need an update. Or... If you go to the Fanatec website and download the latest driver for your wheel, you can always manual suggest to flash the wheel driver & update it’s firmware. You can choose which ever driver or motor driver you want from the ones you’ve downloaded if you manually update the wheel or pedals.

Thanks so much for the response when I go into update firmware it says the firmware is up to date however I’m starting to wonder if I downloaded the latest one I see from previous posts you say the latest is the one with the biggest number. So I will delete the one I have and check I’ve downloaded the latest. Then try the manual update if needed it’s driving me mad lol

Cool... Just choose the .Hex file you want to install rather than just flashing the firmware. Then you know exactly which driver you’ve installed.

How do you connect your laptop with the wheelbase ?

Literally unplug the USB which is connected from your base to your console and plug it into the pc then press the menu and Y button at the same time to change the green ring around the power button to red. The pc will only recognise the wheel when the power button is red.

Yes… all you need to plug into your pc is the base USB when doing an update.

Hi again.. Tried doing an update on my DD2 today and now I can’t seem to manually ‘CAL’ the wheel? It just flashes all the time and doesn’t allow me to calibrate it? Any ideas please?

Yeah as far as I’m aware you just connect via the base and you can update everything through the one connection 👍🏼

Yeah this is where I’m stuck. I’m just about to wire the thing all up and mount everything and how the pedals are set up I won’t have access to the ports once mounted and was thinking of connecting it to the DD2 and hoping it will be able to update correctly from there on the initial setup/ firmware updates. Reading the instructions makes me think I have to update all the components before connecting to the DD2?

I’d certainly try updating everything stand alone first. Ever since connecting all mine together I’ve just updated through the base connection and it’s all good

Xzibit A I would suggest deleting any driver files you’ve already down loaded and starting again. Re-download the drivers or specific .hex files and try installing them again.

Your wheel seems sideways even when supposedly centered I wish it centered itself how do you get it dead center??

reviewfor thetube my wheel is usually the tiniest bit not centred but it doesn’t make a blind bit of difference but you could just recalibrate the wheel centring using the menu + A button when in the tuning menu and go through the recalibration again.

How do know which driver to download.

Lee Garrett The highest number is the latest driver. Then you need to just be sure what operating system your pc is using. Either 64Bit or 32bit. Then just follow the guide... it’s all in there.

Hey man... try deleting all the drivers you’ve installed and start again. Download the right driver.. 32bit or 64bit Then try installing the firmware. Remember to follow all the steps I show here.

231/5000 good it does not detect the bootloadet mode or the three pws files but if the three pw files of the firware probe with different system cable. op. and everything I do not achieve with the key I would be very grateful if someone helps me. thank you very much.

@@jaysysumakaRatMaster3 nope its red for pc. i went and updated drivers. i spent 5 hours straight testing every possible scenario. done everything i possibly could do to make it work and it just wont do nothing. other usb devices work when plugged in to the exact same usb port. so i will give it one more shot and upgrade to the csw over the csl elite wheel and if that dont work ill have to look elsewhere. its a shame that i cant use my wheel because i actually like it because the ability to adjust settings on the wheel while in the game and i got use to that. but my its not the first time my wheel has done this. just this time i cant get it to come back

Have you tried using a different USB cable... The same port but a different cable to connect the wheel to whatever platform you’re running on?

Yes it will work but there’s advances in driver software all the time. If you’re happy leave it, but some games perform better using the newest drivers/firmware. But I’d say always save a copy of the old firmware you’re running to resort back to if you’re not happy with the new one.

It's one of the connections on the back of the v2.5 besides the brake, clutch and pedal sockets . Just curious as I've no idea what it means or what it's for .

Transfix I’ve found it... it’s a beta driver but it does sound like it’s having better reviews. I’m currently unable to test v328 due to back pain but I’ll look at installing v330 👍🏼
