The whole "Player is the villain" thing is so overdone. It became annoying years ago. I personally think that Genocide rout is Chara taking control. Asriel himself even says that Chara was not a very nice person. Add to this the whole plan of Chara's being for Asriel to take their soul and kill some humans to break the barrier that would restart the monster/human war. The Chara that is in the game is like Flowey, a soulless entity without any proper emotions who's goals and morals have been twisted around from their lack of soul.
