Being on PC was how this game should have been started and then possibly expanded to consoles. The problem with console is that it is far too static in comparison to a PC.
Some people love Dust 514 (myself included) because of how many GOD DAMN HOURS THEY PUT INTO IT! I played it so much, naively believing that there would be a future for it, that now my TV has the health read outs and ammo read outs permanently IMPRINTED on the screen and it's really obvious the minute the tv screen turns white. YA DONE FUCKED IT UP CCP. But on a better note at least we get a just as buggy high def version of Dust 514 on PC so that's some consolation. May Dust 514 pass into obscurity still shooting and screaming: "I shall have vengeance! In another time!! In another life!!!"
Oh well I'll just play it until it finally dies. We loved you Dust 514 it was a good run...but ya should have gone to PC first. Wait does this make that new EVE monument partly irrelevant? Because it was was made in honor of EVE online, Dust 514, and EVE Valkyrie...
Dust 514 is becoming Project Legion, with mercs being migrated to the new game. The console is being left behind. That's not a bad thing. Keep playing now and you'll have a massive headstart on us PC players when Legion finally releases.
I'm thrilled that DUST is finally coming to it's intended home on the PC, what I don't get, is why most of the DUST 514 *Keynote* is not about DUST 514....
Why are people raging about this in the comments? It's a good thing, FPS games belong ultimately on the PC. I am hoping for som fun "direct connection" between EVE and Dust, maybe I could do "incursions" into orbital facilities with the dust part after covertly latching on with my ship in the EVE part. Launching space marines, (not the 40K kind), into a facility to take it over or sabotage it, (stealing docked ships too), would be a blast.
The gamepad just don't cut it in terms of precision. And FPSs are not a casual couch game. But has it been announced that they plan to end the PS version? The really smart thing ccp can do is to aim for something on all platforms. I seriously almost bought a PS3 with the sole purpose of playing Dust, and that was simply because CCP had demonstrated that they can create a good game, didn't need to know anything more than that they made another game for the PS3
Frank R. Haugen FPS's aren't a casual couch game? So I should have to shell out $400+ just to play a little bit of Battlefield or Call of Duty? I can't just play a few matches, I have to play it 24/7? Is that what you're trying to say?
Still funny. CCP succeeds in getting console players passionate about the New Eden universe and invested so much that they actually bought and went to the first year of fanfest for their game, spend a couple Grand on tickets, hotels and food.. Sit down for DUSt 514 key note speech. Then CCP Rouge gets up on stage and talks about how great the community is and its all about the community. Then puts his hands up with one finger raised in each and says "FUCK YOU CONSOLE PLAYERS, FUCK YOU AND YOUR COUCH" I would of payed money to have a camera catch console playing DUST fans reactions after spending a couple grand to be there then essentially told that your don't matter. Sad thing is this is the track record of CCP's PR department. They are terrible at actually marketing their products and managing their IP's.
Here comes the 1 Hour Dust514 Keynote where the devs tell us how we rock and then use a vid from Pyrex to then show nothing about Dust514. I wonder if CCP even understands how players that got the Merc packs for 100€ for the "10 year plan game" that gets repleaced by a new game where they dont use the old items or chars at all. CCP please explain me why we payed for the event boosters 1 month before fanfest for the "1mil clone challenge" when you did know that you trash the game and will remove the SP anyway AND why you sell me a quafe suit for RL money and now remove the suits from the game...
Sarge Rho Of course it does. Dust 514's playerbase is already too small, and the same studio that's working on dust apparently had been working on Legion this whole time. They don't give a fuck about dust anymore.
Sarge Rho Then explain to me how Dust 514 will be able to maintain its playerbase when literally an exact copy (with better graphics) of dust is being cloned onto the PC. Do you seriously think Dust 514 will remain active???
The reason they are making Legion is because the PS3 can't handle the changes they want to make for it. That's the exact reason CCP has been so slow in making any real updates to Dust, the ones we were promised; like 32 v 32, PvE, and so much more that will now be up to Legion to support.
***** Im saying its impossible because its three different games using 3 different engines with 3 different processing pipelines CCP would have to scrap the engines they are currently using and start from scratch the last time they did that with Dust 514 it took 2 years to get back to there previous state Hell im not even sure the eve engine can even support that kind of function
I'm sure if CCP is still here will find a way as the game continues to EVE-volve. (Heh, corny I know I just had too.) In the meantime with current tech, there's no reason game clients now can't be coded with multiple engines. Its just only one engine be accessed and run at one time. Till then, the old multi computer/accounts is the way to go who can afford it and patient enough with the hassle. It's like operating a fighter jet with steam engine controls. ...or operating Minmatar equipment.
***** Unless you know of a way to merging two different engines together then id advise you to shut the fuck up because you are obviously too damn stupid to understand why it cant be done
It makes me sick to think that I cheered at this PC port. It means I can play more easily, but without everything being brought over 1 to 1, no one who played before has any incentive to keep playing. There's your feedback Rogue...
At the "CCP Presents" segment on day 3, they started by promising that SP and items would be brought over, IF "Project Legion" got the go ahead for development. Lets see if they have just made one more broken promise. Personally I would have liked for them to clarify BEFORE the whole thing blew up in their faces. Such as opening the DUST Key Note, explaining it something like this: "that they initially had these plans for Dust, but limitations in the platform, yadda, yadda, yadda have forced them to reconsider remaining on the PS3, something that was never a given for ever. As a result they have started to explore alternatives for the future of dust, something that is at least two years ahead, as it stands now..." Personally I think this is actually the case, and one comment made during one of the Dust presentations more or less confirms this. It was suggested that they had more than a little trouble handling the EVE skill book and module bonus model on the limited memory of the PS3. Another thing is that they may be forced to run all of this on the single General purpose CPU core, instead of the SPE's. I can only hope that the new simplification of that statistics engine (I cant remember the name of it) presented i one of the panels, could potentially help the PS3. Essentially the new engine will pre calculate as much as it can, for instance create a single set of stats for a character whenever a skill is applied, instead of what it seems to be doing now, that is for each action, everything is calculated from the skill book, to the effect of the active modules at the time, as well as any fleet boosts. The math is complex.
I've been convinced that there were serious trouble with the Dust client for ages. I just had hoped that maybe they'd manage to overcome the problems through optimization. We've had several tries to make large maps, some were really great, lots of room for tactics, and underhanded sneak attacks :P Sadly they've all been unstable, hinting at either memory leaks, or simply just insufficient memory to handle them. Other games have larger maps, but they don't have the memory and CPU hog we call the EVE skill model to deal with as well.
Call of Duty gets 60 fps on PS3 by running at 800x720 , I wouldn't mind the extra fps in Dust. Let Dust 514 be a fun COD clone and PROJECT LEGION be what you guys envisioned in the first place.
lordjor96 I'm not saying it is, I'm saying it should be. Dust 514 is just a highly compromised Project Legion. I say fuck that and go all the way and make Dust 514 a twitch shooter with mechs like in Titanfall and everything. Let PL and Dust be their separate things.
no dust should be considarate a bf 2145 or other shoters clone instead of COD i wish ccp considarate add more mods like the old shooters (like unreal tornoment, quake , etc) of corse not focus fully on dust but also on all eve games
Alright one thing real quick when the hell is pve going to come out? Now back to the topic at hand CCP said that they felt that the game wouldnt seem good on the pc and what the hell do they do put it on the pc. wtf?
The absolute first thing i did in Dust was... plug keyboard and mouse, but i wasnt really getting the feel for it (it wasnt designed for it), but im gonna play shitload in PC version.
If it will have the the movement and the jetpack like in Titanfall.....it would be so awsome, that game has nice movement control. But still ..i will play the game.
***** I was only sugesting it from a quality point of view, but i understand what you mean, i just hope the controls will be responsive, i realize it's a free game, but in my opinion, it's better to not release a game that wiill not medium quality, after release i dont want it to be criticized by all shooter base comunity.Plus, it's a futuristic game some new technology is welcomed.
I would love to see how players in EVE online can create contracts for DUST players to attack and capture PI structure as well as POS (including sovereignty units) . The owner of those structures can also create contracts for defending them with the reward either set to match the aggressors reward or set to a certain amount. DUST players can then see, in order of given reward, which battle is worth fighting and participate. In the end, the structure will go to the winning party. If the number of players in DUST is sufficient enough this might work out very smoothly and a highly rewarding contract will be taken up on both sides by DUST fighters in no time. Add to that the ability for EVE player to give a short motivation to the DUST players in the contract why he want's it depended and you have yourself an awesome self-writing story instead of just a fight for isk. If the contracting system works well and DUST players have a lot of isk it could become lucrative for EVE player to manufacturer the weapons for them just like they do for the spaceships and the equipment in EVE online. This will then again have a huge impact on the EVE online universe. If DUST get's transferred to the PC I can see this work even better.
Looks awesome. I've been hoping for Dust on PC since 2009. Dust is dead, for me at least. Played it since closed beta and it's been a rough couple of years to put it lightly. The game just hasn't lived up to any of the hype or potential and in all likelyhood it never will. Seeing Legion just makes Dust look that much worse. Moving/making a seperate game on PC is the way to go. Now CCP can run test servers and develop faster without Sony's red tape. The game can become what we've all been wanting it be.
I think it would be cool if you give the player the choice. On EVE and just expand the skill base. I'm thinking ships landing on planets and people getting out of their ship type deal.
It might not be what you want to hear but it is what had to be done you just cant get any growth on a dead console platform where your player base is rapidly dwindling due to the adoption success of the ps4, bringing the game core experience to pc allows them to bridge the console generational gap and build with far fewer limits in the future, from there they are free to port to the consoles without worrying about generational gaps PS4 to PS5 ect.
You'll get no argument from me on the power of PC, I'm just wondering what motivated them to choose a console in the first place, and why abandon it now?
When I see all the great little improvements dropped in every hotfix since this announcement, I feel compelled to return to Dust. Then I think back to this. Just how incredibly poorly executed both the announcement and the handling of the fallout. And how betrayed I felt about the years I'd put into this game and the future I had so naively thought I would be a part of. Dust was a good game. I'm sure EVE is a great game. Valkyrie is the stuff my childhood dreams were made of. But I can't touch anything CCP ever again.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEEEASEEE bring it to ps4 as well as pc because you will be leaving all the console players behind and if you put the game on both you will get even more profit from this game!!
A deep balanced competitive shooter,,,HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...
Sony is going to hell in a handcart, and is losing money like mad, that is why CCP is thinking of moving Dust to the PC, as Sony's entertainment division may not be around for much longer, especially when they turn off the Gran Tourismo 5 servers in 13 days time. So as Dust is now moving to PC, will it be a Battlefield 32 v 32 or 64 v 64 OR as Eve has 56,000 players at any one time can we expect to see ground battles with large sides as a scaled down version of the large space battles?
I'm glad it's coming to pc as most of eve was turned off from the concept just from the fact it was console only.I also want to see the game we were promised in the beginning one that was part fps and part rts .A real military game with ground troops ,fleets and a command .This would make it stand above other games like black opts ect. Dust would have been a great game 6 or 7 years ago. All though i still enjoy it it hardly gets the time I give to eve.
Releasing Dust PS3 exclusivly was a terribad idea in the first place. I still dont understand it. PS3 has hardware from 2006, 8 years old, thats stone age in the tech world. They would never been able to make all the things they promised on PS3. The switch to PC is necessary.
I have mixed emotions about this, just like all of you... But honestly - It's CCP. Dust 514 on the PS3 was a bad idea from the start. The game was pretty much a test. It should have been on PC to allow for more advancements and better gameplay. I've played Dust, and luckily, didn't invest a lot of time/money into it, because of how far behind it was compared to other FPS games. I figured CCP would right their wrongs and it'd be one hell of a game so I stayed clear of it for a while! So here we have Legion - what Dust should have been all along. So CCP is doing what they should and fixing Dust! The only problem is - They are screwing over all of the console gamers and completely turning around on everything they promised. The fact that this keynote is called DUST 514 is wrong. Dust pretty much just converted to BUST 514 and got kicked to the Dust, along with all of the loyal players who have stuck by it from the start. It's sad, and horrible on CCP's part. BUT... They are fixing it. They are making into what it should be and better (hopefully). CCP has good opportunity and bad, they can make this really good or screw up beyond belief. We all know from their history though that they can do it. Look back at when Eve first started - How bad it was and how much improvement it needed. Now look at it. That's what CCP does, they try to do everything they can for the players (and to fatten their own wallets of course). Only difference is, back when they fixed Eve they didn't scrap it and make a completely new game. So big mistake on their part... Lets hope Legion is a whole lot better and sorry to all of the console gamers who were betrayed!
Haven't played EVE or DUST since last year fanfest. Terrible approach and backstab keynote. Haters of this idea might get a good game on the PC, but they are standing on the payments of PS3 DUST players that were then betrayed. You cannot slice it any other way. Whatever comes out of the DUST debacle, it will be tainted by the way CCP played the console community.
