A chilling performance by Hector Lavoe, Jorge Santana, Cheo Feliciano, Celia Cruz & the Fania All Stars from mid-'70s Zaire, Africa. The All-Stars was part of a 3-day festival which ushered in the famous "Rumble In The Jungle" fight between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali! The concert was done before an amazing 80,000 people and the newly built stadium. Enjoy this treasure.

La Fania fue la confluencia de ritmos más grande de la historia musical de nuestro continente americano. Viajó por el mundo llevando nuestra mezcla africana, europea, indígena, fueron los pavos reales de nuestra música, una mezcla jamás alcanzada.

I am completely humbled, and so appreciative of everything MS. Cruz stood for: Talent, skill, class and her respect for the nobel art of performing. As a singer performer myself, I long for the days when artists like her made the effort to present at the top of their game in every way. Todays performers have not honed their skills like she did. Performing night after night. She respects her audience in the way she performs, dresses and makes the art of music and show business what it can and should be. The conductor is the late Johnny Pacheco, born in the Dominican Republic. His father was a bandleader too, and had to leave the country to escape the wrath of dictator Leonidas Trujillo. Thus, Johnny ended up in New York and became enthralled by the AfroCuban rhythms. Puerto Rican musicians and singers were mostly instrumental in keeping that flame, particularly after Castro took over Cuba. Most of the members of the Fania All Stars were from Puerto Rico. Celia was Cuban; Larry Harlow was from New York City. Singers Ismael Miranda, Santos Colón, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Quintana, Adalberto Santiago, Cheo Feliciano and Pete “el Conde” Rodríguez were (are) Puerto Rican.

El punto es que solo faltaban algunos y tenías a los directores de orquestas más sonados y sus cantantes... Lavoe, Miranda, Celia, Cheo, Santitos Colón y Quintana. Solo faltaron los mamitos Richie Ray y Bobby Cruz y el sonero mayor solamente.

30de octubre del 1974 sucedio este concierto y fueron invitado, a cantar en la famosa pelea de Muhammad Ali en africa, donde tambien participo y canto James brown, BB kings t the spinners, ese documental lo puedes buscar, se llama "Soul Power"muy interesante

Gracias por semejante JOYA; Puerto Rico o Fania: Es CUBA! Da gusto ver a Feliciano, Barreto, Pacheco, LaVoe, etc, tan jovenes y en pleno apogeo de su carrera. La Guantanamera por Cruz y por el resto del grupo es electrico, sin mencionar Quimbara que no es mas que un trance de la salsa. No puedo dejar de mencionanar a Ray Barreto y a Joaquin "Joe" Claussell y los acordes de "Exodus" en el video. Dios! Despues de esto, se va al carajo el resto!!! Que viva CUBA, PR, Fania y De Leon por este video.

The original FULL documentary is two hours long & begins w/ a jam session on the plane. On landing, tribal members greet them on the tarmac singing Afro-Cuban songs of Arsenio, Sonora Matancera, Aragon. It follows the All-Stars into the marketplace, jamming w/ the Africans & rehearsing. There are performances w/ Miriam Makeba, and so much more that's missing from this version that was edited to feature Celia.

I agree. Had a chance to see it (well saw it twice that day, that's how good I thought it was). Anyway, the documentary's greatness (in my opinion, musical talent aside) was precisely that it built up to the main event with all the experiences and sights, and off script action. I hope they put it back the way it was.

Tener en la dirección al gram Pacheco a Celia Cheo Santitos Colon Santana Hector y en los coros a esos monstruos de la musica y encima a los mejores musicos hizo de la fania algo sencillamente inolvidable y eterno, y cada vez que hago una reunion o una fiesta, pongo esta música como un justo homenaje a quienes nos deleitaron tanto y a quienes me alegraron la vida muchas veces con solo escucharlos....

Que viva la música de la Fania por siempre! Ese concierto en África fue no solo la Fania, también artistas Afro Americanos. Pero cuando salió Celia con la Fania pusieron a bailar a todos!❤. Arriba la música del Caribe! Todos esos ritmos Cubanos y Puertorriqueño mezclados se convirtieron en Salsa.
