Gail Ann Dorsey certainly knows good music, as did David Bowie. Fanny was a band comprised of 4 outstanding female musicians who were ‘way ahead of their time. Remember, back in the early to mid 70’s, we all lived in a world that was far different than today. I worked as a radio DJ back then, so I know firsthand how prevalent sexism was in the music industry. Fanny deserves ALL of the RECOGNITION they are belatedly receiving today...and then some!

I first saw Fanny on a show on British TV in the 80s called 'Best of Beat Club', which had old clips of a German TV rock programme from the 70s. I was blown away by how good they were, but it was like they'd been erased from history: they weren't mentioned in histories of rock music, you couldn't get their records, nobody had heard of them. I never got to hear them again until the 00s, when the First Time in a Long Time boxed set came out. So glad they're finally getting the recognition they deserve.

I saw the first David Bowie tour in 72 - spiders from Mars - and it's weird that Woody Woodmansy is the only surviving band member..They were awesome. And I have since seen many more concert videos with other musicians. Then j saw Gail Ann Dorsey and i thought, wow - I want to learn more about this very gifted and talented bass player. She has a long and successful career.

I became aware of Fanny maybe two years ago. I saw their performance of "ain't that peculiar" here. The power, the tightness of that band, the playing, these personalities - I was totally blown away. It's a crying shame this post is 7 years old and doesn't even have 2000 likes. What kind of a world is this? Sadly, like James Brown vomited out: it's a mans World.

Bowie hired Gail to his band and for recording sessions circa (i.e. around about ) 1996 . She was a superb addition to the Bowie experience and had a great voice too . I've often wondered if she was a daughter, grand daughter, niece , grand niece , or in some way related to Lee Dorsey . Lee Dorsey was a pop and soul singer ( today they say R&B singer but im old school and i like the tag soul singer best) . He started out in the 1950s . His biggest hits were Ya-Ya 1961 and Working in a Coal Mine 1966 . He continued recording and performing and with others till around early 1980s . "Lee Dorsey developed emphysema and died on December 1, 1986, in New Orleans, at the age of 61. If anyone knows about any connection between Lee Dorsey and Gail Ann Dorsey, I would be most grateful for a reply . please, any and all, replies !

Ain't that peculiar....😉 They are still on my to do list. Fanny what a great band and musicians and so is Gail🎸🎙🙏 If you really look at it,than you find out that there is an Ocean of great musicians out there. Women and Man*(from the past and the presence) The only problem is that the music industry has no masterplan what to do with it. They wanna make money, and real full blood artist, which have a message and more, are not on their the radar. And if they find a great talent, they turned it around and it sounds crappy, cause they don't let them have some indefidual artistic Freedom) But to be honest》How many people really listen to music today with passion and dedication ? They not willin to pay for it and they have a intention span of five seconds with the deph of a glass of water. Thats the sad thing about it. On the otherside you have to be fair. One life time is not enough to listen to all the music that has been ever released. I got a Blues Box with 50 cds.(over100 Arists) The ABC of the Blues..it goes from the delta-to the big cities....and each artist alone by itself is in my opionen a diamond.... How many people have that passion to listen to this ? I have and i learned that from the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton which introduced me to Roots of all Music. Bowie was the same.He saw a lot, listenend a lot,and reading a lot.So he buildet a house of music, sound and vision with his songs□■ I always found it interesting that he was born on the 8 of January.Like Elvis Presley. He also was a huge Elvis Fan and had a Tourbreak on his Ziggy Stardust Tour, just to fly over to New York for seing a Elvis Show in Madison Square Garden. Thats passion.Isn't it ? However.Great video of Gail🎼💙 Great musician, singer, and human being.

Immediately people are astonished and surprised of how amazingly great Fanny was, but then they'll get extremely angry and frustrated at the same time that they were not promoted or handled properly the general public who love great artists feel robbed they weren't absorbed into the north american main stream when they had so much to offer hungry listeners blasting their Pioneer speakers, Today June Jean Alice and Nicky have a Legacy that keep Fanny an epic milestone, not just for female artists , but for all artists singer songwriter's alike...

Fanny were great musicians. They released several successful albums, they did tours around the world, they played huge arena sized venues, they opened for major rock bands. So tell me again how were they held back ? How were they kept from fame and fortune because they were women? How were they martyrs who were shown such great disrespect and abuse? Did their record companies and their managers rob them blind? If so, welcome to the music industry because that happens to most rock bands then and now, (e.g. Badfinger, Grand Funk, etc). Also the ladies are now in their 70's. How many other bands of the 60's and 70's were given the same fate and are now forgotten. I am glad you "discovered" them now but to say they were unknown back then, well that would be nothing more than BS and you all are trying to use political correctness/feminism to make a buck. I call BS on this whole narrative of we were cheated and robbed just because we were women. Bands would have given their right arm for the successes and fame Fanny got during their time. Which I might add ended in the late 70's.

As good as Fanny was as a band, they did not have a great stable of original songs. Their covers were outstanding. Their musical abilities were not in the league of virtuosos, i.e. Clapton, Bruce, and Baker, however they were still very good, journeymen in their playing. This notion that they were not given their due simply because they were women in a man's world is not true. There were many women recognized in those days like Joanie Mitchell, Judy Collins, Dusty Springfield, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, even Cher. They were not "held back" from fame. Sorry if this upsets the pc narrative.

All of the women you cited were touring with male musicians. You are ignorant of the shit that an all female band, such as Fanny, had to slop through on tour.
